The Ye family had already learned about Ye Lanyin and the Regent from the people.
The whole family is waiting for Ye Lanyin to return.
Madam Ye, along with her eldest and second sisters-in-law, began to inventory the dowry in the room.
"Mother, my daughter-in-law has several shops. Why don't we include them in her dowry?" Sister-in-law Xie said excitedly.
The Marquis of Zhenbei and the Regent are not the same.
The Marquis of Zhenbei was extremely ambitious. They originally disagreed with Ye Lanyin marrying into the family, but Ye Lanyin insisted on marrying him. Her family doted on her and gave her a grand wedding with a ten-mile-long red bridal procession.
However, she also kept a backup plan, fearing that if the daughter married down, the son-in-law might become ungrateful and develop inappropriate thoughts, thus ruining her family.
Therefore, they only gave them a courtyard house with six entrances and six exits, along with some gold and silver treasures.
"That was given to you by your mother, how can you give it to Lanyin?" The old lady glared at her. "Your mother still has several shops, you two can't be left with nothing, can you?"
"Mother, your daughter-in-law doesn't mind," the second sister-in-law said coquettishly. "Lanyin suffered so much in the Marquis's mansion. She finally got out to live a good life. Soon she will be the Regent's Consort. If she doesn't have a family fortune to rely on, she will be looked down upon."
“Our family prospers together and suffers together. Only when Lanyin is doing well can her husband serve as an official in the court with peace of mind, and only when her elder brother is on the frontier can he serve with peace of mind.”
The eldest sister-in-law, Xie, chimed in, "Yes, Mother. Our husband has brought honor back for us, so the Ye family's life won't be too bad. But Lanyin is different; she has had it so tough."
“My family has given me quite a few shops, so we don’t need these.”
The old lady was deeply moved as she listened to what her two daughters-in-law said.
Wanwan is right. What virtue or ability does the Ye family have to have such a virtuous and kind daughter-in-law?
She then took their hands and said earnestly, "Shuning, Xinghe, you two should put these away carefully. You are both my children, and I cannot do this for either public or private reasons."
“Good children, if Lan Yin knew, she definitely wouldn’t accept these things from you.”
She knew Lan Yin's personality all too well.
She respected her two sisters-in-law, and if she had known it belonged to them, she would have refused it.
Hearing the old lady's words, the two could only sigh and think to themselves that they would have to find someone else to help Ye Lanyin.
"Madam, the eldest young lady has returned."
The maid knocked twice and then whispered through the crack in the door.
Upon hearing this, the old lady happily stood up from her chair and led her two daughters-in-law toward the door.
"Quick, this girl suddenly had a change of heart, I need to go and ask her what's going on."
Xie Anning and Li Xinghe shook their heads helplessly. Ever since the old lady overheard Wanwan's thoughts, she'd learned a new word: "eating melon seeds" (a Chinese idiom meaning to gossip or follow others' opinions).
She's become incredibly interested in everything happening around her now, just to keep up with the gossip.
"Mother, let your daughter-in-law help you."
"No need, Mother isn't old, she can walk!"
Ye Lanyin led Lin Wanwan to the front hall of the Ye family, where General Ye and Ye Wennan were already waiting.
The two couldn't hide their joy as they pulled Ye Lanyin aside and showered her with concern.
"Wanwan, do you miss your second uncle?"
Lin Wanwan tilted her head, her little tuft of hair falling to the side, and nodded as if she understood, "Yes, I think about it every day."
I don't remember anymore.
Ye Wennan: "..."
He almost believed the truth.
Ye Lanyin coughed lightly, tapped Lin Wanwan gently, and said in a serious tone, "Wanwan, before you were even born, your uncle was sending all sorts of tonics to the Marquis's mansion."
"Your uncle deserves a lot of credit for making you so fair and chubby."
Upon hearing this, Lin Wanwan made no attempt to hide it, reaching into her bosom with her small hand in front of them.
The two pretended not to see anything and looked around.
After a long while, Lin Wanwan took out a crumpled talisman and stuffed it into Ye Wennan's hand.
He grinned and said, "Jiujiu, here comes the mud."
"The truth... Fu..."
[Truth Charm: Use it to control the treacherous people around you.]
[Ideally, in front of His Majesty, I'd leave him with no way out, hehe...]
Ye Wennan glanced back at Ye Lanyin.
A petty person?
Who is it?
Well, say it!
He was so anxious that cold sweat beaded on his forehead, but he couldn't hear the thought echoing in his mind.
"Lanyin, you're back."
Just as Ye Wennan was trying to get information out of Lin Wanwan, his mother's voice rang out from behind him.
Old Madam Ye hurried over, and when she saw her daughter, she was overjoyed.
Although they lived not far apart, Ye Lanyin was currently in Ping'an Prefecture and had her own things to do, so she couldn't keep bothering her.
"Mother." Ye Lanyin stepped forward and pulled the old lady over. "Eldest sister-in-law, second sister-in-law."
"Eh."
"Eh."
The two sisters-in-law were so happy they couldn't stop smiling.
Xie Shuning said, "Lanyin, let's have dinner here today. I'll tell the kitchen to make some of your favorite dishes."
Second sister-in-law Li Xinghe also quickly spoke up.
"Me too, me too."
Ye Lanyin was extremely grateful to the two of them. She was so grateful to have such loving sisters-in-law. She secretly vowed to eliminate all the villains.
Lin Wanwan stretched out her little hand and snuggled into her second sister-in-law Li Xinghe's arms, "Ninth Mother, I'm angry too~"
Li Xinghe smiled gently, then took Lin Wanwan from her arms and said to Ye Wennan:
"Husband, I'm going to check on the kitchen. I'll be right back."
"Okay, go ahead."
Ye Lanyin, along with Ye Wennan and General Ye, discussed the wedding arrangements in the front hall.
General Ye looked his daughter up and down for a while, and finally couldn't help but ask, "I heard that you've agreed to marry the Regent?"
