Chapter 17: Kill Su Guanqing! Are you pretending to be blind?!
When the two of them went back, they bought some wine and food to take home. Except for Aqiao who had gone somewhere unknown, the four of them sat around the table for dinner that day and had a rare feast.
Jiang Tong held the bowl and said to Zhong Wanci with a smile, "Mom, I've redeemed the land deeds. Don't worry, we won't be sleeping on the streets."
Zhong Wanci covered her chest and breathed a sigh of relief: "That's good, that's good."
"Have you returned the remaining money from selling the paintings to Guanqing?" Jiang Huaishan asked.
"I wanted to return it to him, but he refused to take it!" Jiang Tong complained.
Jiang Huaishan said, "Nonsense! Even if he refuses to accept it, you have to return it to him!"
Su Guanqing had just taken a mouthful of rice when he heard this, but he quickly swallowed it and said, "Uncle, this painting was given to Tongtong by me. How can I take back something I gave away?"
"This is what your father left for you. How can you give it away so easily? If your father knew, wouldn't he be sad?" Jiang Huaishan looked disapproving.
"But it was Tongtong who restored the painting. Without Tongtong, it would have been destroyed. Besides, I've already been paid half the ransom..."
After Jiang Tong lit the fire, he left it alone and let Jiang Huaishan and Su Guanqing argue.
Today's dishes were bought directly from the restaurant. They were delicious and made her very hungry.
Just as he was eating, he suddenly saw Zhong Wanci winking at him. Jiang Tong followed her gaze and saw Su Guanqing holding chopsticks with a bowl of rice in front of him, and explaining his own ideas very seriously.
Jiang Tong looked at Zhong Wanci again in confusion and asked her with his mouth: What's wrong?
Zhong Wanci also mouthed something, and Jiang Tong suddenly understood.
She kept eating her own food and didn't pay any attention to Su Guanqing's situation.
Su Guanqing couldn't see where the dishes were. Apart from the stir-fried cabbage in front of him, he didn't pick up any other dishes. Most of the time, he just ate the rice.
Jiang Tong shook his head secretly. This person is just like that. No matter what suffering he has, he swallows it silently and never troubles others.
As she thought about it, she picked up some of the dishes and put them into Su Guanqing's bowl.
Jiang Huaishan couldn't argue with Su Guanqing, and was using his seniority to put pressure on him. But when he saw Jiang Tong's actions, he was immediately stuck and forgot what he was going to say.
He looked at Su Guanqing's outstanding bowl, then looked at his own empty bowl, and suddenly felt wronged. He, as a father, had not even enjoyed this treatment!
When he fell silent, Su Guanqing thought he had won and continued to eat happily. When he opened his mouth, he ate a piece of braised pork dumpling.
He was stunned for a moment, and then he heard Jiang Tong's voice in his ears: "Tell me what dishes you like, and I'll help you get it." Jiang Tong said, and put another piece of Beijing-style shredded pork with sauce into his bowl with chopsticks.
"Okay." Feeling the bowl of rice in his hand move slightly, a warm current immediately flowed into Su Guanqing's heart. He, who was able to speak eloquently just now, could not say a word and just ate his food in silence.
He ate with relish, which made Jiang Huaishan feel that the dishes Jiang Tong picked were more delicious.
Jiang Huaishan cleared his throat and raised his bowl, his eyes wide open, but Jiang Tong didn't even look at him.
He was angry and looked at Zhong Wanci again, but Zhong Wanci just blinked her beautiful big, soft eyes at him and concentrated on the sweet and sour pork ribs in her bowl.
Jiang Huaishan was so angry that he just started eating rice.
…
After dinner, Jiang Tong went into the study.
She brought back a job from Zhao Ji today.
It wasn't about restoring an ancient painting. An unknown scholar made a mistake in writing an inscription on a painting, but he couldn't bear to destroy the painting, so he asked the mounting shop to remove the two wrong words and replace it with new paper.
Jiang Tong didn't mind that the job was simple and cheap. For her, as long as she could make money, it was enough.
She went about her business while Su Guanqing cleared the table and went to the kitchen to make medicine for Jiang Huaishan.
While I was busy, Jiang Ming, who had slept enough in that gentle place, finally came back.
As soon as this person came back, he groped his way into the kitchen.
As soon as he entered, he saw a dark figure swaying in front of the stove. Jiang Meng was not expecting there to be someone in the room, and he was so scared that he screamed "Ah" and jumped high like a mouse whose tail was stepped on. His old injury was affected, and his face was distorted with pain.
"Where did this little thief come from!?" Jiang Meng roared, covering his ribs with his hands while baring his teeth.
Su Guanqing was not frightened by the sudden shout. He had heard footsteps long before Jiang Meng came in.
At the moment, he just said in a harmonious voice: "It's a misunderstanding, it's me."
"Su Guanqing?" Jiang Meng walked over and looked at Su Guanqing in the light of the fire from the stove, complaining unhappily, "It's pitch black, why don't you light a lamp?"
Su Guanqing explained good-naturedly, "I can't see it, so there's no need to waste lamp oil."
"Why are you in my house?"
"Tongtong redeemed me."
Jiang Meng tutted his words, his face sneerful. "I thought we'd run out of food, but this girl has just bought a maid and now a servant. It seems the Jiang family has more wealth that I'm unaware of."
Su Guanqing did not refute Jiang Meng's words that he was a servant, but just kept a close eye on the medicine jar.
Because he couldn't see, he was afraid that the medicine would splash out, so he always listened carefully to the sound when boiling the medicine.
However, Jiang Meng seemed to be deliberately causing trouble for him. He kept hanging around him, making it impossible for him to hear the sound of the water.
But he always had a good temper. Even if he was disturbed by someone, he would not chase them away like Jiang Tong did. He just said, "Master, are you hungry? There are two steamed buns in the cupboard. I can heat them up for you..."
Before he finished speaking, he heard Jiang Ming snort in a sarcastic tone: "Young Master, humph, you won't be able to stay here for two days."
Su Guanqing couldn't respond to this and could only stand there with his hands hanging down.
Jiang Meng suddenly became interested in Su Guanqing. He walked over, gave him a shove, and said in a nonchalant tone, "You just called me Master? Do you really think of yourself as a servant? Don't you plan to marry my sister?"
"Guanqing is just a lowly person now, how dare you think like that." Su Guanqing said gently.
Even though Jiang Huaishan said he would treat him like his own son or nephew, and Jiang Tong also told him to treat the Jiang family as his own, he still didn't dare to dream. He was already satisfied to be a servant in the Jiang family and take care of Tongtong and her parents every day.
Jiang Meng had no idea of this. He simply assumed the Jiang family truly despised Su Guanqing. Thinking of his own situation, his face suddenly twisted, and he snorted in anger, "This father and daughter are truly cold-blooded. If you get in their way, no matter how close our relationship is, they'll throw you over the wall."
Su Guanqing didn't hear clearly and asked in confusion: "What?"
"Nothing." Jiang Meng responded and walked away with a clatter.
Su Guanqing ignored him and just watched the medicine pot carefully. When the medicine was ready, he used a handkerchief to hold the pot and poured it into the bowl.
He couldn't see, so he didn't know that after Jiang Meng left, a pinch of white powder appeared in the empty bowl that he had washed clean. After it was washed down with the medicine, it disappeared without a trace.
…
"You old man, you want to burn the bridge after crossing it? That's impossible! If you want to die, your family must go first!" Jiang Meng cursed in a low voice and walked towards his house.
He walked to the door in the dark and instinctively pushed it, but he pushed against empty space. He lost his balance and fell directly into the room, hitting the ground and injuring his ribs. He screamed in pain.
It was a quiet night, and his shouts echoed throughout the Jiang family courtyard, but no one came out to take a look, probably thinking he was just acting drunk again.
It took me a long time to recover. When I got up and looked, the door was gone!
He had no idea that it was taken down by Aqiao violently and used to make the bed for Su Guanqing. Even the entire bed was taken away with all the bedding and sheets.
In fact, if Jiang Tong had followed his wishes, he would have simply not let Jiang Tong in and let Su Guanqing sleep in his room. Unfortunately, Jiang Huaishan was unwilling to do anything too embarrassing and still wanted to wait for someone from his family to come and take Jiang Tong away.
Jiang Meng was so angry that he threw a tantrum in the room. Finally, exhausted, he gritted his teeth and lay on the bare bed. Suddenly, he smiled grimly and muttered, "You are unkind, and I am unjust. Don't blame me in your grave."
Just as he was about to close his eyes, a black shadow suddenly flashed before his eyes, silently and without a trace.
Jiang Meng's eyes suddenly widened: "Who?!"
No one answered, and the black shadow disappeared in a flash, as if it was just an illusion.
But Jiang Meng didn't dare to sleep. He had a guilty conscience and his hair stood on end. He just stared at the void with his eyes open.
Just when his eyes were aching from staring, the world suddenly spun around him, and he was suddenly lifted into the air, with the scenery in front of him constantly changing.
He didn't know that it was Aqiao's extraordinary kung fu who captured him and ran away. He just thought he had really seen a ghost. He was almost scared silly and kept howling.
Then, the scene in front of him suddenly became bright, and Jiang Meng felt a sense of weightlessness, and then he was thrown heavily to the ground.
The ribs that had not yet healed were cracked again. Jiang Meng's eyes turned black with pain. In a trance, he saw a person sitting in front of him, glaring at him. It was Jiang Huaishan.
In an instant, Jiang Meng was so frightened that he almost lost his soul.
"Rebellious son! How dare you take my life!" Jiang Huaishan slapped the armrest and shouted angrily.
Jiang Meng thought it was an evil spirit coming to take his life, and was so scared that he wanted to run away. However, no matter how hard he tried, his chest was stuck to the ground and he couldn't get up at all. For a moment, he was so scared that cold sweats broke out: "Don't, don't come after me, I was wrong, I was wrong, I won't dare to do it again."
Ah Qiao put one foot on Jiang Meng's back and shouted, "Tell me the truth! Why did you do such a cruel thing to your father?"
"I, I, I was wrong. I won't dare to do it again. I, I, I just didn't want to be chased away. I, I, I was confused for a moment. Dad! Dad! Please forgive me! Don't take me away!"
"Why do you still want to stay in the Jiang family? Hasn't this family been emptied by you?" Aqiao asked curiously. The Jiang family was so poor that she felt embarrassed to eat for free here.
"Hmph!" Jiang Huaishan snorted coldly, "This rebellious son is probably coveting my third-rank official position, which will bring him the opportunity to enter the government through imperial favor. Little does he know that your reputation in the capital is already tarnished, and you still want to dream of imperial favor!"
Zhong Wanci's eyes turned red with anger. She pointed at Jiang Meng and cursed, "You're such a wolf! You're such a wolf!"
Jiang Huaishan turned his head away and didn't look at Jiang Meng.
Jiang Tong said, "Aqiao, come with me to report to the police."
"Okay." A Qiao agreed, put Jiang Ming's hands behind his back, and pulled him up.
Seeing that he was about to be dragged out of the door, Jiang Ming finally realized that he was not seeing a ghost.
He came back to life after realizing this. He desperately tried to reach the door with his feet, then turned around and stared at Jiang Huaishan in disbelief: "You're not dead? How, how is this possible?!"
When he turned around, the bowl of poison was on the table, and a blackened silver lotus hairpin was leaning against the bowl.
Su Guanqing stood beside the table.
Jiang Meng roared, "Su Guanqing! Can't you see? Are you pretending to be blind?!"
