The New Year's Eve banquet ended in a mess. Yan Cheng and the Seventh Prince had no interest in staying in the hall filled with the smell of blood. It would be better for them to go back early for a midnight snack.
Just as the two were about to leave, they saw the small Eleventh Prince coming over with Yan Zhaoyi.
The Eleventh Prince held Yan Cheng's right hand with his warm little hand, and said tearfully, "My dear brother, are you feeling uncomfortable now? Why hasn't the imperial physician come yet?"
"Cheng'er, thank you. Ying'er said you vomited blood to protect him." Yan Zhaoyi was grateful and guilty. "This is all my fault. If I hadn't asked Ying'er to come to you, you wouldn't have to go to so much trouble to protect him."
After hearing the tense situation described by the Eleventh Prince, Yan Zhaoyi realized that it was her own son who slowed down Yan Cheng's escape.
The eleventh prince had rarely attended palace banquets. In the palace, apart from being familiar with Yan Cheng, he had an unfamiliar relationship with his other brothers. Zhaoyi Yan thought this was not a good idea.
So Yan Cheng was asked to look after the Eleventh Prince at the New Year's Eve banquet, and to take the Eleventh Prince to build relationships with his brothers.
Unexpectedly, an assassin would appear at the palace New Year's Eve banquet.
Yan Zhaoyi learned a few tricks when she was young and had quick reactions. She was not as dull and stupid as other concubines. Although she could not subdue the assassin who killed without blinking an eye, she could run away very fast.
She was not injured, and even if she was injured, she would not care. She was only worried about her young and weak son.
Yan Cheng also knew that Yan Zhaoyi was thinking about the Eleventh Prince, so after the assassins were subdued, he immediately asked the eunuch who served the Eleventh Prince to carry him to find Yan Zhaoyi.
At this time, after being reminded by two people, one big and one small, Yan Cheng remembered that he had just vomited blood and should find a doctor to see him.
"Don't worry, auntie. I've already sent for the imperial physician. He should be here by the time I get back to the North Second Institute."
Yan Cheng said calmly, thinking that he could already memorize the imperial physician's words, which were nothing more than anger and the need to rest.
Yan Zhaoyi had no doubts: "Then go back quickly. Can you hold on? Do you want to use my aunt's sedan chair?"
"Thank you for your kindness, Auntie. However, North Second Prison is not far from here. I can just walk back."
Yan Cheng finally managed to coax away the concerned Concubine Yan and his tearful Eleventh Brother. Before he could even breathe a sigh of relief, he heard the Seventh Prince beside him ask softly, "Why are you vomiting blood again?"
Yan Cheng paused. Come on, there is another person here who needs explanation.
He raised his hand to signal the Seventh Prince to go out. The Seventh Prince looked at him. Yan Cheng smiled, his little white teeth were white and neat, as if they were highlighted.
The Seventh Prince was blinded by the flash and took the lead. When he breathed in the cool air outside, he said, "Speak!"
Yan Cheng did not hide anything and briefly explained how he kicked the assassin away while holding the eleventh prince, and how he was seen by the sixth and tenth princes, which made them suspicious.
I could only perform a scene on the spot saying, "I'm very weak, I'll vomit blood if touched, don't take me seriously."
I don't know when snowflakes started floating in the sky, drifting and spinning in the air, cold and icy.
A few small snowflakes fell into Yan Cheng's outstretched pale palm and were melted by the warmth of his palm in an instant.
He heard himself say in a voice as cool as snowflakes, "Acting crazy and foolish is a perfect way to confuse others. So is being weak and sickly?"
The Seventh Prince had also experienced the convenience of being frail and sickly. In the past, when he was often ill, almost no one took advantage of him.
They all assumed that this sickly man would not live long and it was not worth wasting manpower on him.
Even his brothers tended to give in when they faced him, or even avoid him, probably because they were afraid that he would blame them if he got sick or died.
But after the imperial physician announced that his body had basically recovered to normal state under the treatment of the miracle doctor, the brothers who had not interacted with him in the past came flocking to him.
The malice hidden under the gentle appearance was like a flowing river, washing away his already cold heart.
The former friendship was buried in time, and it was at that time that the Seventh Prince first realized the meaning of the word tit-for-tat.
Unexpectedly recalling the bad memories, the Seventh Prince muttered, "Some people are so annoying. Isn't it good to live a peaceful life? Why do they always have to stir up such a mess?"
"Maybe it's because human desires are endless." Yan Cheng said.
The two men carried lanterns and walked along the palace wall towards the north. When they reached a corner, they stopped at the same time.
The palace maids and eunuchs were confused, but did not dare to question it. They maintained the same distance and stood far behind them.
The Seventh Prince looked at Yan Cheng inquiringly, and Yan Cheng nodded to indicate that he also heard the quarrel from the other side of the corner.
Neither of them knew what to do.
From the sound, it seemed that there were two girls arguing over there. If I went over to the girl who was arguing, I would feel awkward with them, but if I went over, I would be suspected of eavesdropping.
But before they could think about it, the conflict between the girls escalated and one of them even started fighting.
"...Fourth sister, get out of the way! Qu You, you're a fake princess, but you're still hanging around in the palace. Are you planning to marry one of my brothers?"
The more the Sixth Princess spoke, the more she felt that this was the case.
Qu You is a fake princess and her name has been removed from the imperial genealogy. The people she can marry now are not the same as before, and she must be unwilling to accept this.
The prince is the young man with the highest status that Qu You can currently contact, and she has no blood relationship with the Qu family.
Would she be willing to give up the best option that is right within reach and choose a man of higher status?
Putting herself in the Sixth Princess's shoes, she thought that she couldn't do it, so she thought that Qu You couldn't do it either. A surge of anger spread from her heart to every part of her body.
"Qu You, you are so shameless!"
The Sixth Princess pushed away the Fourth Princess who was standing in front of the Fifth Princess and slapped the Fifth Princess.
