Chapter 7 Sending People to the West

"How is it going?"

Feeling extremely nervous, Yan Cheng asked in a slightly trembling voice.

"The lord suffered a minor injury to his left arm. Madam, the third young master, and the eldest young lady are all fine. Several of the people we sent over were slightly injured."

Leng Yan finished speaking in one breath, and Yan Cheng relaxed, his heart at ease. But the next moment, he pursed his lips and turned around, with sparks in his eyes.

"Leng Yan, can you finish your sentence in one go next time?"

The sudden words just now scared him so much that he thought of the worst possible scenario.

"I'm saying it all at once!" Leng Yan is well aware of her beauty and winks cutely without any instruction. "Look, I didn't even wait for you to ask, Master, and I said the next sentence directly."

"What's with the pause in between?"

"Huh? Did I pause? No?"

Yan Cheng sat up straight, puffing his cheeks twice: "Go ahead and pretend, I think you are deliberately trying to make me anxious."

Leng Yan smiled: "No, it's my fault for making the master anxious."

"Hmph! Stop talking about these useless things and get down to business." Yan Cheng put away the paper he was practicing calligraphy on, walked to the tea table, casually poured a cup of tea and pushed it in front of Leng Yan. "Where did my father and the others encounter the robbers?"

Yan Cheng thought for a moment and said, "Luyang? There are many mountains and many bandits there. The imperial court has been trying to clean up Luyang for many years, but it has been ineffective."

Leng Yan said no, and Yan Cheng was startled. This time he thought for a longer time before saying, "Could it be Yuzhou? Many years ago, there were rumors that the remnants of the previous dynasty were hiding in the mountains of Yuzhou."

The last emperor of the previous dynasty was incompetent, the empress dowager was in charge of government affairs, the eunuchs controlled the military power in the capital, and the ministers were not pretentious. With the efforts of all parties, they successfully made chaos in the world.

Upon hearing the news, the Qu family rose up and gathered the family's manpower, financial resources and material resources to rise up in rebellion, pacify the world, and change the country's name to Da Xia.

When the previous dynasty fell, the vast majority of people in the world were happy. However, there were some people who were stubborn and swore to be loyal to the previous dynasty until death. In fact, their number was not small.

These people caused quite a bit of trouble at the beginning of the Great Xia Dynasty, but later disappeared after being frightened by the attacks.

Their disappearance was so sudden that no one was prepared. No one could find them anywhere in Daxia. Later, when the king came to power, people gradually forgot the existence of the remnants of the previous dynasty.

However, a few years ago, rumors that the remnants of the former dynasty were hiding in the mountains of Yuzhou began to spread from somewhere.

Then wave after wave of people entered the mountains of Yuzhou to check, but no one found any trace of the remnants of the previous dynasty.

Since no evidence could be found, people naturally thought the rumor was false, and it was quickly forgotten.

Yan Cheng thought for a long time before he suddenly realized that he had to pass through Yuzhou to go to Beijing from Yulin Prefecture, and there happened to be some rumors in Yuzhou.

"You got it right this time. It's Yuzhou." Leng Yan drew a few lines on the table. "The convoy had just reached the foot of an uninhabited mountain when a group of people came down from the mountain to rob us."

"Our people said those people were dressed in rags and were armed with farm tools. They weren't very ruthless and didn't have much strength. They seemed to only want to rob money and food, not to hurt anyone."

"Although they are numerous, our people and hired escorts are not vegetarians. Except for a few fast ones, we captured all the others."

"The robbery of court officials by bandits is a serious matter, so the lord and his men took a detour to Yuzhou and met with the governor of Yuzhou. Calculating the time, the lord and his men should have left Yuzhou by now."

Yan Guangyi was in a hurry to take up his post as the Minister of Works, so naturally he could not stay in Yuzhou for a long time. The investigation of the robbers was handed over to the Yuzhou prefect.

"They're dressed in rags, armed with mere farm tools, and they came down from the mountains. From their description, they seem quite likely to be remnants of a previous dynasty. They have no household registration, making trade difficult, and probably struggling to survive."

As Yan Cheng was speaking, he noticed that Leng Yan yawned slightly with his hands covering his mouth. Looking closely, he saw that the corners of his eyes seemed a little red, which made the red mole under his left eye look even more striking.

My eyes inadvertently moved down, and I saw a white neck and black clothes.

The contrast between black and white is particularly eye-catching.

"...Didn't you sleep well last night?" he asked.

Leng Yan said slowly, "I didn't sleep last night. Someone found out that Lin Tongzhi did have a secret. I went to Lin Tongzhi's house in person and found something in the secret room in his study."

Yan Cheng's eyes lit up, and there was a glimmer of curiosity in his eyes.

The two exchanged glances, and Leng Yan shook his head before continuing, "We didn't find any evidence that he intended to murder you, but we did find a few account books."

"Since you mentioned it specifically, it must be something very important."

Yan Cheng guessed, "When Lin Tongzhi was Tongzhi in the northwest, his superior prefect was already too ill to get up. Although he was Tongzhi, he acted like a prefect. As far as I know, he is not a clean person. Could that account book be evidence of his corruption and bribery?"

Then Yan Cheng saw Leng Yan nod, and he held his cheeks with both hands: "This is really..."

Very interesting!

"The new prefect is coming soon, right? When he arrives, let's do a good deed and give him the account books so he can clean up the mess in Yulin Prefecture."

One sentence determined Lin Tongzhi's future fate.

Yan Cheng did not feel guilty. Lin Tongzhi was not a good person. As soon as he arrived in Yulin Prefecture, he instigated Yan Guangyi to commit corruption and bribery.

If Yan Guangyi had not been so determined and resistant to temptation, Lin Tongzhi would have brought him down long ago.

Later, Yan Guangyi realized that Lin Tongzhi was not a good person, and he had been suppressing the other party in the past few years, which prevented Lin Tongzhi from doing anything harmful to the world.

Fortunately, after Yan Guangyi left, Lin Tongzhi did not become the new prefect, otherwise the Yulin Prefecture, which had finally become prosperous, would have been in trouble.

The new prefect of Yulin Prefecture was a well-known honest official, and Yan Cheng believed that he would want Yulin Prefecture to be more peaceful.
