Chapter 22 Underestimating the Enemy and Falling into the Trap
Where is Gu Feng?
Li Tiankuo gripped his sword and coldly questioned the gatekeeper, who was startled. Fortunately, the steward recognized him when greeting guests at the door.
"What happened to the Immortal Master?"
"Where is Gu Feng?" Li Tiankuo asked again.
"Young Master is in the backyard..."
Before the steward could finish speaking, a large group of people angrily walked out of the He residence.
The two leading figures were none other than Master He and Li Tiankuo, who had come to find Gu Feng.
Ignoring everything else, Li Tiankuo stepped forward to block Gu Feng and said coldly, "You are not allowed to leave."
Gu Feng recognized him and, suppressing his anger, said, "Immortal Master, please do not stop me! Hui'er's wedding has been ruined, and I must personally capture that person!"
"If you go out now, you will surely die." Li Tiankuo only remembered that Bai Yuheng told him that he must keep Gu Feng in the He residence, otherwise he would surely die.
"Don't stop me! Even if I die, I will seek justice for Hui'er!" Gu Feng shook him off and leaped onto his horse.
Li Tiankuo grabbed his collar and wouldn't let him leave the He residence no matter what.
"Let go!" Gu Feng roared through gritted teeth, veins bulging on his forehead. "Gu San, stop him!"
Gu San attacked, but Li Tiankuo grabbed him with one hand and used his sword to deflect his attacks with the other.
"What are you all standing there for?!" Gu Feng shouted to the servants behind him who were holding weapons. "Stop him!"
"Stop!" Master He glanced at him, then looked at Li Tiankuo and asked, "Why is the Immortal Master stopping Gu Feng?"
"I told you, Gu Feng must not leave the He family; if he does, he will surely die."
"..." Master He looked at Gu Feng and said calmly, "Then let's do as the Immortal Master says. Gu San, take your young master away."
"Uncle!" Gu Feng exclaimed in surprise, "Uncle! I'll be alright! Aren't there a few immortal masters here? Please let me go check on Hui'er!"
Master He looked at Li Tiankuo, who was unyielding, and said without room for argument, "Take him away!"
"yes."
Compared to Gu Feng, the servants of the He family definitely obeyed Master He.
Gu Feng was quickly subdued and locked in the courtyard.
Li Tiankuo was guarding the front gate, holding a sword, his expression cold, as if he were watching over a prisoner.
"Master, you've worked hard. This is some food that the steward sent over. Please have some," the young maid said tremblingly, showing reverence for the knife in his hand.
"Need not."
The maidservant, emboldened, pulled him over to the stone table in the courtyard, her hands trembling.
"You must eat it, otherwise the steward will blame the maid..."
Li Tiankuo frowned and pushed her hand away, about to refuse.
Suddenly, a slight noise was heard. Li Tiankuo turned around with a cold face and kicked open the door, only to find that the window, which had been tightly closed, was wide open and Gu Feng had already disappeared.
When he climbed over the back door, all that remained were Gu Feng and Gu San, who were riding horses at breakneck speed.
...
"Why did you run out?" Master He frowned as he looked at Gu Feng galloping towards him.
“Someone caused trouble at Hui’er’s wedding, and as her cousin, I naturally have to seek justice for her!” Gu Feng put on the mask he had gone back to get, afraid that seeing Hui’er’s face later would frighten her.
Master He nodded in satisfaction, thinking that Hui'er's kindness was worth all the years of raising her.
They then disregarded what Li Tiankuo had said and led their servants on horseback to the place where the trouble was taking place.
By the time Li Tiankuo caught up, the person had already arrived here.
As the vines lashed out, Li Tiankuo threw down his sword, and together with the golden rope that Bai Yuheng had tossed from her wrist, he snapped the attacking vines in two.
The golden rope transformed into a large net, blocking the flying blades.
"Master He, quickly take the others back," Bai Yuheng reminded him.
"Want to leave? Don't even think about it!"
Chun Tao appeared, and tens of thousands of flower blades, along with the vines behind her, attacked the crowd. Bai Yuheng set up a barrier for the defenseless He family members while approaching Chun Tao.
"Stay within the circle and don't make a move."
With a leap, the golden snake in her hand transformed into a sharp sword. Using the attacking vines as leverage, she continuously approached Chun Tao, slashing the vines as she did so.
"Cui Mingcan, how's your formation practice going?" Cen Ying asked Cui Mingcan as she dodged the flying blades, urging him to quickly apply the formations he had learned.
"Don't worry, Sister Ying! This time it'll be a success!"
Cui Mingcan patted his chest and promised that since that failure, he had practiced day and night, even reviewing his performance in his dreams. This time, he was determined to avenge his defeat!
"Okay, I'll cover you!"
Bai Yuheng turned her head and made a hand seal towards Cui Mingcan, creating a halo around his body that completely enveloped him. The attacking blades all fell limply to the ground after hitting the halo.
Chuntao saw through their intentions and said coldly, "You think you can trap me?"
Having said that, he charged forward, his arm transforming into a branch, and lashed out at Cui Mingcan, who was drawing the array.
"Watch out!" Cen Ying hid behind a house on the street corner, observing the battle. She was not good at fighting, so she did not get bogged down in the fight, lest she hold them back.
Li Tiankuo pulled the sword that was embedded in the wall, then threw it with a backhand motion, the sharp tip piercing through, and Chun Tao let out a painful howl.
Amidst the fierce battle, Mudan, clutching Fang Linchun's urn, dodged and made her way towards the barrier set up by Bai Yuheng. The flower blades nailed to the ground were still stiff, and she tripped and fell to the ground without noticing.
"peony!"
"Uncle, you can't go out!"
The stalk pierced by Li Tiankuo swung straight toward the peony. She lay on the ground, seemingly frozen in place, unable to move, watching helplessly as it swung toward her.
"Bang!"
—It was the sound of flesh slamming against a hard wall.
"Pfft—"
—It was the sound of a sharp blade piercing skin and flesh.
Bai Yuheng transformed her sword into a rope and quickly bound the half-branch. She then forcefully swung it towards Chun Tao, who, without the sword's protection, was distracted and allowed the flower blade to pierce her right arm.
Chuntao, distracted by Mudan, was hit by half a branch thrown by Baiyuheng and flung onto a house by the roadside.
Li Tiankuo pulled out the sharp sword embedded in the crevice of the stone, leaped into the air, and swung his hand to slash at Chun Tao.
"Spring Peach!!!"
Suddenly, the air seemed to freeze, and everyone's movements slowed down.
A misty floral fragrance gushed out from Chuntao's heart, quickly sweeping across the deserted street.
Even those inside the barrier were not spared.
Li Tiankuo braced himself with his sword, his thoughts racing. He suddenly closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, it was as if he had returned to the magnificent golden palace.
"Kuo'er, come to your father's place. From now on, Consort Shu will be your mother, okay?"
...
"A lowly palace maid born of a bastard dares to dream of the throne? Consort Shu is pitiful for taking in such a jinx!"
"Get out of the palace! You are not welcome here! I am Father's most favored son!"
...
"Ming'er, I'm leaving my entire fortune to you. You'd better manage it well and don't you dare squander it all! Otherwise, I'll crawl out of my coffin and beat you to death, you good-for-nothing!"
...
“Yingying, come here to your father. Today, your father will teach you a new poison. It is colorless and odorless, and can kill people invisibly.”
...
"..."
nothingness.
Nothingness.
Chun Tao couldn't see anything in her consciousness; it was so desolate it was unsettling.
Chun Tao glanced at the beautiful woman in red who had been opposing her all along, and thought to herself that there were actually people in this world who had no emotions at all, whose spiritual consciousness was barren yet pure, which was simply inhuman.
Remembering her main purpose, she mobilized the spiritual energy within her body, making the floral mist even denser.
Gu Feng, who had been constantly provoked by them, suddenly went berserk after smelling even a hint of their scent. He clutched his head and rolled around on the ground.
"Ah! Don't kill me! Don't kill me!" Gu Feng's eyes were bloodshot, his face contorted in a terrifying grimace. He was the only one whose movements were unrestricted, muttering, "I was wrong, I was wrong... I shouldn't have bullied you, shouldn't have insulted you... Please, please let me go..."
He rushed out of the barrier in a frenzy, repeatedly banging his head against the wall, leaving a bloody mess.
Having achieved her goal, Chuntao went to great lengths to assassinate Gu Feng.
Because she achieved her goal, the floral mist actually dissipated considerably, and the people who were immersed in the illusion regained some consciousness.
Bai Yuheng opened her eyes and thought to herself that Chun Tao had used up all her thousand years of power in order to kill Gu Feng, just to trap them in the illusion for a short time.
She underestimated her opponent, but with only 30% of her current strength, she was indeed no match for the illusionary mist she had instantly cast.
But her condition was better than others; she recovered after the floral mist dissipated a little.
Bai Yuheng looked up and saw Chuntao tightly binding the vines around Gu Feng's neck, arms, and legs, giving her a smug smile, and then suddenly exerting force.
"Sizzle—"
Blood gushed out, staining the entire street red.
Bai Yuheng's eyes widened, and the golden snake in her wrist throbbed restlessly under her skin until it leaped out, its blood-red maw gaping wide, and bit into Chun Tao's spirit.
"Spring Peach!"
"Peony, I have killed the person who killed Linchun. You must live well..."
"No, no, no! Chun Tao, don't leave me!" Peony rushed to Bai Yuheng, her long fingertips piercing into her flesh, glaring angrily, "Release Chun Tao now, or you can kill me!"
Bai Yuheng silently turned the incantation, and the golden snake that bit Chun Tao's spirit body suddenly swelled in size.
"Let her go! Let her go!"
Peony angrily pounded on her.
Bai Yuheng turned her face away without uttering a word.
Upon seeing the severed limbs, He Huilan was so terrified that her eyes rolled back and she fainted.
"Hui'er, Hui'er?"
"Immortal Master! Kill this demon!" Master He glared at Peony and the demon that was howling in pain and about to disappear.
"Cui Mingcan, take Mudan away," Bai Yuheng coldly ordered him.
"Okay!" Cui Mingcan and Li Tiankuo used all their strength to carry the struggling and frantic Peony far away.
"You have no heart! No heart!" Peony roared. "You call yourselves a prestigious immortal family! You have no heart at all! You can't distinguish between good and evil, you're cold-blooded and heartless! Shameless! Scoundrels!"
"The Threefold Mystery, guarding its true form. The Five Visceral Divine Lords, protecting its soul and body!"
Bai Yuheng flipped her hand and made a hand seal, her face solemn and cold. Suddenly, a gust of wind rushed in, her clothes fluttered, and golden light emerged. The golden snake that had bitten Chun Tao's spirit bound her true body. As soon as she finished speaking, the spirit returned to its body and steadily returned to Chun Tao's physical body.
The flesh, which had originally turned into a tree and revealed brown, withered branches, gradually regained its luster, just like a withered tree that had been rejuvenated by a long-awaited rain.
