Chapter 7: Laughable and Pathetic (1/2)

Abuse of power for personal gain.

To secretly advance one's own agenda.

These eight words don't really hurt me.

Over the years I've been with the Xu family, I have indeed taken over a lot of their businesses. I can even say with certainty that without me, the Xu family wouldn't be where it is today.

The biggest benefit I gained from it was simply that I ate better and was busier, nothing more.

As for the rest, I returned them to the Xu family exactly as they were, using my own methods. However, no one in the Xu family knew about it, and I never told them, because I felt it was unnecessary.

At that time, all I had in mind was the thought of redeeming Gu Nianci and making her fall in love with me.

I've never thought other things were important. I believe that as long as I successfully redeem Gu Nianci and complete the mission, what's meant to be mine will be mine.

But I never expected that in the end, this would become something Xu Yan could use to threaten me.

I find it both laughable and pathetic.

Although I am not afraid of being threatened.

Now, apart from that knife, I'm not afraid of anything.

However, the next morning, I still met Xu Yan at a coffee shop with heavy dark circles under my eyes.

I want to see what he's planning to do.

What are his and Gu Nianci's true motives?

My subconscious told me that what they were going to do was not as simple as Gu Nianci said. After all, based on the information I had gained since coming into this world, Xu Yan was not sincere towards Gu Nianci and was just using her. It's just that Gu Nianci was foolish enough to think that Xu Yan loved her.

Of course, Xu Yan also disguised himself very well.

It was so good that I felt a little guilty at the time.

What I didn't expect was that Xu Yan would at least pretend after we met, exchange a few pleasantries with me first, and then cautiously reveal his purpose after some subtle probing. But he didn't. Instead, when he saw me, he simply threw a stack of documents in front of me.

"These are some of the things you've done for the Xu family over the years."

“My parents handed those businesses over to you, trusted you, and didn’t interfere with how you did them, but that doesn’t mean that the things you did behind the scenes won’t leave a trace.”

Looking at that stack of documents, I could hardly believe it.

The very first page I saw sent chills down my spine. Only one person knew about those things, and that person… she shouldn’t have betrayed me!

I suppressed the urge to ask directly and looked at Xu Yan with a faint smile: "What can these things prove?"

"Or rather, what impact do you think these things could have on me?"

Xu Yan didn't seem surprised by my attitude, looking at me calmly and indifferently: "I know what you're thinking right now."

"You're thinking about who gave me these things, and then you're thinking about how to completely erase these traces."

“I can tell you very directly that these things were given to me by Gu Nianci.”

“Gu Nianci…” I narrowed my eyes slightly, and my doubts deepened at that moment.

Gu Nianci, how could you possibly have such things?

You know, over the years, I have always maintained the proper role of a stay-at-home husband in front of Gu Nianci. Apart from the necessary time to handle company business, I spend the rest of my time at home, either taking care of household chores or cooking for Gu Nianci.

There's nothing I can't make if Gu Nianci wants to eat or likes.

She doesn't usually communicate with me much, and when she does, the thing she says most often is, "Xu Ruo, do you think I'll fall in love with you just because you're doing these things?"

"You should just give up on that idea."

I never took it seriously, thinking I could win her over.

Later I realized that this kind of humility is the most despicable. If you only think about moving people, then in the end, there is only one way out: death.

It's just a pity that I woke up too late, or rather, because I was so deeply involved, I never thought about waking up.

I never thought of it until I knew Xu Yan was coming back.

But what Xu Yan said is true...

I looked at Xu Yan, trying to see even the slightest bit of tension in his expression, but he let me stare at him without any reaction, always with a smile on his face, his gaze towards me containing a hint of provocation.

This made me somewhat suspicious.

Could it be that Gu Nianci never believed my past actions were true, or...?
