Yan Hai first took me to the coffin shop, and then went back alone.
When we arrived at the coffin shop, he acted as if nothing had happened. He greeted Yan Shan, asked about my recent situation, and then left.
Before leaving, he told Yan Shan to prepare another room so that Yan Yin could come and stay for a while.
After saying this, Yan Hai left without giving Yan Shan a chance to ask any questions.
Only after Yan Haiyuan left did Yan Shan look at me with a strange expression and say, "You brat, are you hiding something from me?"
"I asked him to send Yan Yin to stay with me before, but he absolutely refused. He insisted on taking the child to and from school early in the morning and late at night. How come he suddenly agreed after going out with you?"
I was silent for a while before looking at Yan Shan and saying, "Uncle is sick."
"Hmm?" Yan Shan paused for a moment. "What illness?"
"Brain cancer!" I said, my voice heavy with emotion. "It was discovered during a hospital check-up today."
"He brought Yan Yin here because he needed medical treatment; he didn't want to affect Yan Yin."
"You brat, this is no joke." Yan Shan looked at me seriously. "Tell me, this isn't true!"
I smiled wryly and said, "Uncle Shan, I have no reason to lie to you."
Upon hearing my words, Yan Shan fell silent.
I didn't say anything more, but glanced at the time and said, "I'll go cook first."
"Is there a cure?" Yan Shan suddenly asked.
“It’s in the early stages right now. As long as you cooperate with the treatment, there’s a chance of a cure,” I nodded.
"That's good, that's good." Yan Shan seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. "If it can be cured, it's not a big deal."
"You stay here, I'm going out for a bit."
"Where to?" I asked.
"Transfer the money." Yan Shan took out a cigarette, lit it, and took a puff. "If I'm not mistaken, he definitely doesn't want to get treatment."
I paused for a moment, then nodded.
"That's just the kind of person he is. He worries himself sick over his family, and he even chooses the cheapest cigarettes for himself."
"Now that this has happened, his first reaction will definitely be to give up."
"You really know him well," I said, somewhat surprised.
"Nonsense, I'm his brother!" Yan Shan said irritably, "Alright, you stay here, I'll go transfer the money to him."
"Since his illness is curable, it's not a big deal."
Before he left, he told me that the shop owners on this street would come over that evening, and that I should entertain them myself.
He then left the coffin shop.
My feelings became even more complicated.
Cancer is unlike other diseases. Even if it can be cured, it is a long battle. Chemotherapy and rest and recuperation are the two things that can almost exhaust a lifetime's savings for an ordinary family.
So even with Yan Shan's help, I still need to speed things up.
Before we knew it, it was evening.
Coffin shops usually don't have business at night, so I don't need to worry about people coming to buy coffins without knowing the price. Tonight, it's most likely that the person coming will be a shop owner.
Around eight o'clock, people started to arrive one after another.
Although the people who came were somewhat dissatisfied to find that I was the only one in the shop, they all chose to stay when they heard that I had asked Yan Shan to invite them.
They were giving Yan Shan face, and also because they didn't want to bully a young person like me.
At 8:30, all the owners of the eleven shops on the street had arrived.
