Groups of white tents are connected together and placed at the foot of a higher hill.
This small village is called "Lenghu Town". The name comes from a small lake several hundred meters wide behind a low mountain. It may be the only blue that can be seen within hundreds of kilometers, except for the sky.
Lenghu Town was built by refugees on ruins and is located in the westernmost part of the third continent.
The closer we got, the more broken walls and ruins we could see. The broken and decayed steel and concrete had been simply patched up, forming a wall to protect Lenghu Town from the sandstorm.
Chu Yao tightened the brakes, and the motorcycle began to slow down, slowly driving between the white tents of different sizes.
Although they are called tents, most of them are actually white cloth supported by broken wooden sticks.
Some tents even had a corner propped up on a broken lamp pole, and the exposed wires gave one a glimpse of the past glory of this place.
On the slightly narrow sidewalk, all kinds of miscellaneous things were placed there indiscriminately: huge four-wheeled off-road vehicles, piles of broken computers, dried bones of strange beasts... and various daily necessities.
Chu Yao lowered his body on the motorcycle, walked through a "forest" of clothes hanging out to dry, and headed towards the depths of Lenghu Town with ease.
The deeper they went, the louder the voices became. Along with the voices came a variety of smells: sweat, alcohol, motor oil, disinfectant, and so on. Chu Yao also smelled the stench of manure, the smell coming from a pig farm.
The way Steel Dome Company deals with the Lingyuan people can be simply summarized in four words: leave them alone.
Except for a few limited large cities, the rest of the world is outside the law.
So there are many similar settlements in the desert, all built brick by brick by ordinary people who survived the war.
Naturally, some people tried to resist the tyranny of the Steel Dome, but not everyone had this idea, and ordinary people did not have the ability to do so.
After going through hardships and surviving disasters, people still have to live, because only by living can there be hope.
Chu Yao carefully avoided a garbage dump full of flies and insects, and finally found her destination.
This tent is much taller than the others, like a spire standing out in the white ocean.
Chu Yao stopped the motorcycle, tied it to a relatively intact lamppost with a lock, lifted the curtain, and walked in carrying the sack.
The spacious tent was packed with people. Scantily clad men and women sat in groups of three or four around wooden tables, drinking in their hands and chatting in the air.
Some of these people were merchants, some were mercenaries, and some were ordinary people. Their cheeks were flushed with alcohol. They played finger-guessing games, talked loudly, and laughed rudely from time to time, living a life of drinking and enjoying life to the fullest.
Seeing Chu Yao coming in from outside, many people at the table waved to her. It seemed that she was very popular here.
Chu Yao smiled and nodded to each of these people, then walked calmly to the bar at the back.
Sitting at the bar was a shirtless, bald man. Seeing Chu Yao approaching, he stood up with a smile on his face.
"Miss Chu, what would you like to drink today? Or the usual, Vidi cocktail?"
"No more wine today." Chu Yao flipped his arms, and the large sack on his shoulder landed on the bar with a thud. "Please count the quantity."
"Okay." The bald man untied the sack, revealing piles of strange animal limbs inside.
He sorted out the valuable materials and arranged them on the ground one by one. Every time he took out an item, the smile on his face became wider.
Many curious people had already come to the two men. They came over with wine glasses and counted the limbs together with the bald man.
"This, this, this... These are the compound eyes of a 'flying mantis', right? There are so many of them, at least ten!" A man in plain clothes stared at the materials scattered on the ground in amazement. "Who is this girl?"
"Hey, what are you talking like that about!" A drunken burly man nudged the man with his elbow. "Boy, are you new here? This is the Queen of our wasteland!"
"These dozen or so flying mantises are nothing. I still remember our sister Chu carried back a whole 'stag beetle' last month. Wow, that was a spectacular scene. If it hadn't been chopped off outside, such a big stag beetle wouldn't even be able to get in the door!" A thin man standing nearby added.
"I'm not really a queen. I just caught a few more bugs." Chu Yao answered modestly, but her chin was still raised proudly, showing that she was very pleased.
"Sister, no matter how many times I see you, I'm still envious. How come you never get tanned? It's so hot out here, if I stand in the sun for a little longer, my skin will melt." A girl in the crowd said to Chu Yao, "Comparing yourself to others is really frustrating."
"Why don't you try our company's new sunscreen? This is the one I've always used." Chu Yao chatted skillfully with everyone in the pub.
"Oh? So that's the secret?" The girl in the cowboy hat asked with shining eyes. "Can you tell me about it?"
"Company?" The man who was stunned before continued to be stunned.
"Hehe, the true identity of our Queen Chu will scare you to death if I tell you! She is the president of Maowei Company!" The thin man said with a smug look on his face, as if he was an employee of Maowei Company.
"The president of Maowei Company... could it be that beautiful entrepreneur Chu Xiaoye who was quite popular a few years ago?"
The man's stunned expression was mixed with a hint of sudden realization. "I was wondering why she looked a little familiar!"
The bald man had already counted all the materials and looked up at Chu Yao. "A total of fourteen flying mantises, compound eyes, forelimbs, tail bones, and venom sacs... Miss Chu, do you want cash, or the same old way, in exchange for insect eggs of equivalent value?"
"Same old as always." After Chu Yao recommended the sunscreen to the girl, he nodded at the bald man.
Before long, Chu Yao had more than forty "insect eggs" in his hands.
These insect eggs are actually the demon pills of these strange insects.
If they could spot demon pills, then naturally others could too. However, ordinary people couldn't see the true value of these demon pills, so they mistook them for dead insect eggs.
These insect eggs are also quite popular because people have discovered that bullets made from them are much more powerful than ordinary metal bullets and even contain toxins.
Chu Yao put away the demon pills with a smile on her face, and suddenly turned to face the people in the tavern:
"I'm in a good mood today, so all the drinks here will be charged to my account!"
The crowd erupted in cheers, clapping and high-fiving, and everyone raised their glasses to greet Chu Yao.
"Queen Chu! Bring your brothers along to hunt alien insects sometime! We also want to see some grand action!"
"Next time for sure!" Chu Yao put away the sack and walked out of the tent amid the laughter of everyone.
She took out her cell phone to check the map, got on her motorcycle, and drove towards where her senior sister was.
