Chapter 2: Unable to Escape the Yonghua Palace

The tent ceiling was lotus pink, the inner room was neat and tidy, and a bird with blue and gold feathers was pecking at rice grains in a cage.

As soon as Wei Shuyi opened his eyes, he saw this scene.

"Young lady, are you awake?" A maid with twin buns on her head walked in with a potion of medicine, her face slightly dimpled. "You've been in a coma for two nights, and now you're finally feeling better. I knew the sage hand by the prince's side would be able to revive you!"

Has it been so long?

She was thrown into a mass grave by Meng Qingzhi. Where is she now?

The other party, perhaps sensing her confusion, took the initiative to introduce, "This is the residence of the current Eighth Prince. Someone close to him brought you back. The prince instructed me to take good care of the girl. I don't know anything else."

"Ahem..." Wei Shuyi was about to speak when his internal organs suddenly ached violently. "Is your prince at home?"

"Don't worry, young lady! Drink the medicine first! Our prince said that it won't be too late to meet you again after you recover."

This wait took nearly half a month.

Meng Qingzhi was too ruthless. To silence her, she had her beaten to death. She had to drink five bowls of dark brown bitter medicine every day and recuperate on the bed before she recovered most of her strength.

The maid who smiled at everyone she met would bring her paintings, calligraphy and guqin every now and then to entertain her, but she never mentioned the instructions of the master of the mansion, so she had no choice but to wait patiently.

Until that afternoon, a young servant in tight clothes came to the door and said, "Miss, the prince wants to see you."

Wei Shuyi quickly put down his brush, tidied his appearance, and followed him to the study.

The path was dotted with valuable flowers and trees, and bird cages were hung high everywhere. This is what a carefree person might be like.

"Girl, we're here."

She nodded slightly and pushed open the door.

Someone waved his sleeve, flicking away the light and shadows, which then continued to roll across the pale blue brocade. He stood at his desk, splashing ink with his elegant brush, his graceful figure reflecting the setting sun, a warm and gentle presence.

"Coming?"

"Ms. Ah Shu from the Pharmacy Department, thank you, Your Majesty, for saving my life!"

She bowed deeply, and when she looked forward again, she met obsidian eyes.

Prince Lian Xie Yanqing’s reputation for virtue spread far and wide throughout the palace.

For some reason, the person before him seemed different from the rumors. "Since that's the case, I have a ready-made opportunity for you to repay my kindness. Are you willing?"

"Your Majesty, please speak."

"Go back to the palace and climb up as high as you can. The closer you are to my brother, the better."

How dare he say such things so brazenly? !

Wei Shuyi was sweating profusely. "Walls have ears, so please be careful with your words, Your Highness. My only wish in this life is to leave the palace, and I have no intention of getting involved in the struggle for imperial power..."

"I know." Xie Yanqing was not annoyed by her refusal. Instead, he said calmly, "How about this, I'll tell you an interesting story?"

She knelt there, bowed her head and listened.

"Many years ago, this dynasty witnessed a major crime. All those implicated were publicly beheaded by my father, and the rest of their families were also taken to their respective fates. Coincidentally, I discovered that someone was missing from the brothels and traced them to the laundry, but there was no further information."

At this point, he paused intentionally, then continued his recollection: "Time has passed, and I've missed the opportunity to make a name for myself before my father, and I no longer have the heart to keep following that person. Who would have thought that there's been news recently about my brother's harem: an unknown maid has become a concubine! I've met her before; she's uneducated and average looking, but she's gifted with a clever tongue that can deceive people! She can fool my brother, but she can't fool me..."

"What exactly does the prince want to say?"

Wei Shuyi's upper body was almost crawling on the ground. When she heard the so-called "interesting stories", her heart was beating like a drum. She vaguely felt that the other party had a handle on her, which was very unbearable.

Xie Yanqing didn't keep her in suspense any longer. He took a few steps closer and lifted her chin. "Someone took credit for your achievements and robbed you of your position. I'll just assume you don't want to cause trouble and let it go. But Meng Qingzhi used courtesy first and then force to plot against you. Do you really not want to go back for revenge?"

"Evil will always be punished by evil. As a woman in the harem, if she behaves like this, there will definitely be other concubines to avenge her."

"If... the sacrifice of the entire Wei family was also a complete injustice, would you still remain indifferent and unwilling to enter the palace to investigate the truth?!"

What! A wrongful conviction?!

Wei Shuyi swallowed back the excuse he had prepared.

She stared into Xie Yanqing's eyes, trying to find the answer: "Is it possible that the prince is deliberately deceiving this servant in order to get what he wants?"

"Hahaha! True or false, you think you have a choice?"

Yes, he already knew her true identity as the daughter of a traitor. If she continued to refuse, he could use this as an excuse to leave her with no way out.

Besides, it was not difficult for him to gather such power and influence as the king and find a beautiful and intelligent concubine to enter the palace. There was no need for him to make up a clumsy lie to coax her into agreeing.

Seeing her wavering, Xie Yanqing smiled and moved the mechanism in the secret room. The young man, escorted out by two secret guards, was stunned at first, then rubbed his eyes and rushed over, shouting, "Sister!"

"Feng Mian?!"

Wei Shuyi looked at the face in front of her in disbelief. His eyebrows and eyes were 70% similar to hers, and there was a birthmark behind his ear. He was definitely her biological brother!

She had originally thought that after leaving the palace, she would have to use her connections to secretly search for the whereabouts of her relatives. Unexpectedly, Prince Lian had already taken the lead and captured a hostage, waiting for her to bow her head and express her position.

After some greetings, the young man was taken away and the door of the dark room closed again, leaving the room empty and lonely.

"He has been assigned to a camp near the eastern suburbs, and the commander happens to be one of my own. However, the timing is not right, and I cannot arbitrarily decide the fate of the son of a guilty minister. I can only arrange for them to take good care of your brother."

The implication was that if she resisted stubbornly and was determined to go against the trend, her brother would die quietly in the camp.

Wei Shuyi calmed down and knelt down again, "Your Highness, I have no way of repaying you for doing this for my family! From now on, I will follow your lead and be at your beck and call!"

The nobleman of heaven paused before her for a long time, and finally extended the end of his folding fan to give her a light support.

"In another twenty days, the Queen Mother's birthday banquet will be held. I will take you to the palace. Whether you can stay there depends entirely on your performance!"

“Only twenty days left?”

"If the daughter of the Wei family is afraid, you can just tell me. I am a good man and I will support one more person in the mansion. At the very least, I can find a way to send you to the eastern suburbs so that you and your sister can be reunited."

No!

I can’t overturn the verdict for the whole family. Even if the family is reunited, they can only hide and remain in hiding, unable to see the light of day for the rest of their lives!

Xie Yanqing's words ignited the spark that had been lingering in her heart: How could her parents, both kindhearted people, collaborate with the enemy and betray her country? There must be something mysterious going on!

Now that she had a great opportunity, she didn't want to miss out on Prince Lian's connections: "Your Highness has wronged me! I only blame the long wait. I need to wait a little longer before I can see His Majesty, that's all."

"Alright! Then let me look forward to your abilities!"
