While the maids were discussing, Lu Ze came out of the room. He lowered his voice and said, "There's no need to wake up your princess. I'll have the servants bring you some bedding. You can stay here for the night."
After Lu Ze finished speaking, he went to the study to rest.
The maids breathed a sigh of relief.
In the early morning, when the autumn sun was shining brightly, Qi Yuning woke up to the scent of orchids, and his eyes met Lingling's.
Lingling looked at Qi Yuning and said, "Mom, you're awake! You've been sleeping for so long!"
When Qi Yuning woke up, she broke out in a cold sweat when she saw the layout of the room. The two maids, Jingzhe and Guyu, came forward and said, "Princess, you're awake."
Qi Yuning said, "I fell asleep here last night? Why didn't you wake me up?"
Guyu said, "Not long after you and the princess fell asleep last night, Prince Lu went to sleep in the study. He told us not to wake you up."
Qi Yuning breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that Lu Ze was still a gentleman. She stood up, picked up Lingling and hurried back to the palace.
Fortunately, it was still early morning and there shouldn't be too many people outside. She had to go back quickly.
At noon, when Lu Ze returned from the Dali Temple, he saw that his bed was still in a mess and the servants did not dare to come in to serve him.
Lu Ze ordered the servant beside him, "Find two maids and change the beds."
As soon as Lu Ze finished speaking, his eyes caught sight of the fine white jade hairpin under the pillow. Lu Ze took it and planned to return it to Qi Yuning the next time he saw her.
Lu Baozhu hurried into the room and said, "Brother! Qi Yuning is pregnant, but how is that possible? When she was fourteen or fifteen, she and I had a fight every now and then. How could she have secretly gotten pregnant and given birth to a child?"
As Lu Baozhu spoke, she noticed that Lu Ze was holding a woman's hairpin in his hand. "Isn't this Qi Yuning's hairpin? How did it end up in your hand?"
Lu Ze asked, "How do you know this hairpin belongs to Qi Yuning?"
Lu Baozhu looked at her eldest brother with confusion. "This is white jade from the Western Regions. I fell in love with it as soon as the envoys from the Western Regions presented it to me. But Qi Yuning snatched it away from me. So how did her jade hairpin end up in your hands?"
"Brother, you don't secretly like Qi Yuning, do you? You even hide her hairpin?"
Lu Ze said, "I picked it up. I didn't know it belonged to Princess Qi. Now I know. I'll return it later."
