Chapter 87 Seeing is Believing

Xiao Chengzi raised his eyebrows.

“It’s on Wanxing Street where we beg every day.

When we found her, she was sitting there alone. Many passersby took pity on her because she was so young and gave her a lot of food and copper coins.

Uncle Zou looked at Nangong Jiu again and said, "He looks chubby. He must have been abandoned here by his family today."

Then he pointed at Xiaoxing and asked, "Is he new here today too?"

"Yes, I also brought it back from Wanxing Street."

"Okay, let's arrange for them to stay first. You're older, so you should keep an eye on them. Especially this little kid, he needs someone to take care of him."

"Yeah!" Xiao Chengzi agreed readily.

Before dark.

The children lined up in a long queue to receive their dinner.

Xiao Chengzi held Nangong Jiu and led Xiaoxing to stand in the queue waiting for food.

Nangong Jiu looked around.

There were indeed two or three hundred children as Xiao Chengzi said. They were all very well-behaved and did not fight or grab anything. After receiving the food, they would find a place to sit down and eat their buns and vegetables.

Well, it's well managed and they put a lot of effort into it.

Nangong Jiu was about 50% satisfied.

When it was Nangong Jiu and Xiao Chengzi's turn to receive their meals, the person in charge of distribution looked at Nangong Jiu, took out a steamed bun, and scooped a large spoonful of egg custard into Nangong Jiu's broken bowl.

But Xiao Chengzi received two steamed buns and half a bowl of stir-fried vegetables.

Nangong Jiu looked at the rather unappetizing egg custard, then at the dish in Xiao Chengzi's bowl: "Pot?"

Xiao Chengzi explained with a smile: "You are still young and can't eat vegetables. Children under two years old can get a spoonful of egg custard every day."

Good, caring and attentive.

Now, Nangong Jiu was about 70% satisfied.

After dark, the children were tired after wandering outside all day and went to bed early.

In order to take care of Nangong Jiu, Xiao Chengzi placed Nangong Jiu between himself and Xiaoxing, and then fell into a deep sleep.

Nangong Jiu had been busy all day and was already sleepy and tired, so he fell into a sound sleep.

Xiao Wang took the opportunity to go out for a walk, and after coming back, he communicated with Xiao Xing using his spiritual sense.

"The room was full of sleeping children, all next to each other.

Overall, the charity house is well managed and the children are well taken care of.

Judging from Her Majesty's expression, she is also satisfied, so we can go back without worry."

Xiaoxing nodded: "Then let's go back to the inn first and visit those workshops tomorrow. Although what Xiaochengzi said may be true, according to His Majesty's custom, seeing is believing."

A Bing and her sisters appeared quietly, carried Nangong Jiu out of the Charity Hall, and returned to Yuelai Inn.

Nangong Yunxue was worried about Nangong Jiu and was sitting in the room feeling uneasy: "Brother Hao, what should I do? I'm worried about Jiuer."

"She's fine. She should be asleep by now. She had a good meal today. The news came back that it was egg custard and steamed buns."

"But……"

"Miss, the princess is back." Ah Bing appeared at the door holding Nangong Jiu.

Nangong Yunxue hurried forward and took the unconscious Nangong Jiu from Ah Bing's arms.

"Quick, get some water."

Nangong Yunxue washed the black dust off Nangong Jiu's face and body, changed him into clean clothes, and put him on the bed before sitting down and asking Ah Bing and the sisters.

"Tell us about Jiuer's experience that day."

"As soon as the princess sat there, many passers-by gave her copper coins and food..." Ah Bing recounted Nangong Jiu's entire day's events in detail from beginning to end.

Liu Hao looked at Nangong Xue: "So, what those people said today is true.

The government actually opened a workshop for the charity hall to provide a way out for the children.

Moreover, there are really some people who don't know what's good for them and are squeezing out and suppressing the business of workshops.

Tomorrow, Jiuer will go visit those workshops, and we will go find those noble families to find a way out for the things in the workshops."

Nangong Yunxue frowned, feeling troubled. "But we don't even know what the workshop is made of. How can we negotiate with those noble families?"

"Didn't the merchants say yesterday that it should be candles, embroidery, food, and other handmade items?

The children are young, and the government will not let them do anything too complicated.

If those noble families are willing, they will find ways to help sell some of it."

"You're right. This time when I go back, I'll ask my parents to open up two shops and sell things made by the children. I'll do my best to help them."

"Well, you should rest early. We will set off early tomorrow." Liu Hao waved his hand and left.

Charity Hall.

Early in the morning, when Xiao Chengzi woke up first, he reached out and felt around, but there was no one around him.

"Sister, Xiaoxing!"

He thought Xiaoxing had woken up and taken Nangong Jiu outside to play, so he got up and went to the yard to look for her.

After searching around, I couldn't find Xiaoxing and Nangong Jiu at all.

Xiao Chengzi quickly ran to find the adults: "Uncle Zou, have you seen the little sister and Xiaoxing?"

Uncle Zou shook his head: "I got up before dawn and didn't see anyone at all."

"Why? Not sleeping in your room?"

"They slept with me at night, and when I woke up they were gone. It's strange, where could they have gone?"

Uncle Zou also frowned: "Could it be that the girl's family came and took her away?"

"That's not to go out so late at night.

But now that you mention it, I remember that Xiaoxing seemed to know the little sister very well.

Yesterday, they asked a lot of questions about the children at the charity center."

Uncle Zou became alert: "Why are they asking about the children? Are they investigating something?"

Forget it, it doesn’t matter.
