"stop!"
All three were stunned. Looking in the direction of the sound, Jiang Ran was immediately dumbfounded.
A group of bodyguards dressed in black suits were seen walking towards them in a well-trained manner.
The man at the head of the group had a detached expression and sharp, distinct features. His tall, straight figure was wrapped in a black trench coat. When his gaze swept over Jiang Ran, the smile on his lips deepened.
As they approached, the bodyguards behind them immediately split into two rows, standing neatly on both sides of the corridor, making way for them.
Jiang Ran stared wide-eyed in shock. What was going on?
The two bodyguards who were originally blocking Jiang Ran changed their expressions instantly upon seeing the newcomer, and immediately lowered their heads respectfully, saying, "Mr. Huo."
Mr. Huo?
Jiang Ran thought it over in her mind, and it seemed that she didn't know anyone with the surname Huo.
Who is this person? He looks kind of familiar to her.
Moreover, why were these two bodyguards so afraid of him?
Staying at a hotel with such a grand entrance, bringing so many bodyguards.
Could it be the owner of the Emperor Hotel?
An elderly man standing behind the man raised his hand, and the bodyguards behind them retreated in an orderly fashion.
The two bodyguards blocking Jiang Ran's path stepped forward and respectfully asked, "Mr. Huo, what are your orders?"
"She's mine." The man's thin lips parted slightly, his voice clear as if penetrating ice water, carrying an unusual chill.
Upon hearing this, the two bodyguards were so frightened that they knelt down on the ground: "So you are Mr. Huo's men. We were blind and disturbed Mr. Huo's enjoyment."
"Aren't you leaving yet?"
The man's deep, magnetic voice came again, this time addressed to Jiang Ran.
Jiang Ran was still in a daze. Was this man helping her?
Why did he help her?
besides...
She remembered! Wasn't he the man she bumped into at the restaurant that day, the one who thought she was a lovesick fool?
Why did he help her?
But now was not the time to think about such things. Jiang Ran immediately stepped past the two bodyguards and followed the man.
Whew~
That was close.
The man entered the elevator first. Jiang Ran hesitated, but the two bodyguards who had been chasing her were still outside, so she had no choice but to bite the bullet and follow him in.
However, after she went inside, the old man who had been following the man received a signal with his eyes and respectfully withdrew.
Jiang Ran's watery eyes widened in surprise. By the time she realized it, there were only the two of them left in the elevator.
As the elevator started moving, Jiang Ran watched the floor gradually rise, feeling both nervous and afraid.
She didn't have time to think about his motives for helping her; all she wanted to do was escape.
She simply couldn't stand being in the same space as a strange man.
So she reached out and pressed the elevator button.
However, just as her fingers touched the button, a warm, large hand landed on the back of her hand, stopping her movement.
Immediately afterwards, her wrist was gripped tightly by a strong force.
Jiang Ran frowned, turned around and glared at him: "What are you doing?"
Instead of getting angry, the man laughed. His dark eyes shone like jewels, and his deep gaze was fixed on her, like the eerie light in the eyes of a beast king in the forest when he sees his prey.
Jiang Ran panicked. Could this person have bad eyesight?
Why is he looking at me like that?
If she wasn't mistaken, his gaze was aggressive.
Unexpectedly, this man, who has a face so devastatingly handsome, has such questionable taste.
How could he be interested in his own face?
Jiang Ran's lips twitched a few times, and he deliberately lowered his voice and said in a gruff tone, "Thank you for your help just now, brother. I will definitely remember your kindness and repay you in the future. But I have important matters to attend to now, so I will take my leave first!"
She had just finished speaking when she heard a 'ding' sound, and the elevator had already arrived at the thirteenth floor.
Jiang Ran seized the opportunity and dashed out in one stride—
She had only taken two steps when the large hand on her wrist exerted a slight force, easily pulling her back.
Jiang Ran couldn't help but plead, "I don't know what I did wrong to offend you. Please forgive me, I really have other things to do..."
The man's handsome phoenix eyes narrowed slightly, and with a gentle pull of his large hand, Jiang Ran was forced into a corner of the elevator.
She swallowed nervously, then backed away in fear, her back pressed against the cold elevator wall, with nowhere left to retreat.
The man's tall figure approached her, his unfamiliar masculine aura enveloping her.
His slender index finger landed on her face, gently tucking the stray hairs from her forehead behind her ear.
The man's voice was low and hoarse: "You don't remember me?"
Jiang Ran didn't dare to breathe. Hearing this, she thought he was bothered by the incident at the restaurant, so she immediately explained, "I remember! Of course I remember you! It's hard not to remember someone as outstanding as you. I feel I need to explain to you that I really didn't mean to bump into you at the restaurant that day..."
"That's not what I meant."
"Huh? What's that?"
Jiang Ran was bewildered. What on earth was this man saying? Couldn't he just explain it all at once?
"You...don't recognize me?"
"Should I know you?" Jiang Ran stared at him blankly, then thought about it carefully again. She didn't know him in either her past life or this life!
However, what the man said next almost made her jaw drop.
"We were engaged."
"......ah?"
Jiang Ran no longer knew how to describe her feelings at that moment.
