Chapter 5: House Raid, Humiliation

“Bang, bang, bang!”

The door seemed to be about to be taken down, and then the maid's panicked voice was heard.

"Madam, madam, something terrible has happened. The commander of the imperial guards has surrounded the palace."

Madam Zheng Jie, who was sleeping in a daze, suddenly sat up with a start. Without even having time to put on her shoes, she opened the door in panic.

He asked in disbelief, "What did you say? What Royal Guards?"

The maid's face was pale with fear, but she spoke clearly, "Madam, the guards have surrounded the palace, the gates are sealed, and no one is allowed to go out."

"The commander of the Imperial Guards has the Emperor's imperial decree for the seizure of property. He says we are here on orders from the Emperor and orders everyone to gather in the front yard. Anyone who disobeys will be killed on the spot."

Madam Zheng Jie was so frightened that she almost fainted. "Why is it so sudden? Why did they confiscate the property? Chang Gong's life or death is uncertain, why did they do that?"

Zheng Jie asked, and the maid had no answer, but she still reminded her, "Madam, the most urgent thing is to wake up the masters of each courtyard, especially the young masters and young ladies. If the guards suddenly break in, the ladies and young ladies may not be able to survive."

Zheng Jie was very scared, but as the mistress of the house and the mother of the children, she couldn't panic and had to calm down.

After Zheng Jie prepared herself mentally, even though she was still a little nervous, her thoughts were clear.

"You're right. Go wake up Changming, Changji, and Qiuling, and have them dress neatly and gather in Changgong's room."

The maid nodded and left as quickly as possible.

Zheng Jie dressed neatly and pushed open the door to her eldest son Lu Changgong's room. The room was filled with the smell of herbs, mixed with a faint fishy smell.

Looking at her eldest son lying on the bed, neither human nor ghost, Zheng Jie shed tears of heartache.

Last night, Lu Changgong suddenly had a high fever. She stayed by his side all night to cool him down. Finally, the fever subsided, but the palace was about to confiscate his property.

"Mom, I'm scared."

A soft and lovely voice was heard, followed by coughs one after another. Zheng Jie comforted Lu Qiuling and looked at her youngest son Chang Ji with concern.

Lu Changji coughed and shook his head, looking at the unconscious Lu Changgong, "Mother, the most urgent thing is to hide some silver! Hide as much as you can, it will be easier to manage with silver."

Zheng Jie suddenly realized what was going on, so she took off the gold and silver hairpins on her head and found five hundred taels of silver notes and forty or fifty taels of silver in Lu Changgong's room.

But she didn't know where to hide it in her hand. She certainly couldn't keep it on her body. If she was searched, she would not only be beaten but also lose her reputation.

Lu Changji covered his mouth and coughed a few more times, "Mother, put it on Brother."

"Is this... feasible?"

Zheng Jie hesitated, but she hesitated because she was worried that if they searched Chang Gong, those people would not care about his health and would definitely hurt him.

Lu Changji's face flushed from coughing. "Mother, believe me, they won't search for Big Brother."

Zheng Jie looked at her youngest son with a determined look in his eyes, and her hesitant heart became firm. After her eldest son fell, although her youngest son was only twelve years old, his suggestions were always the best and most correct.

Therefore, Zheng Jie no longer hesitated and wrapped the things in a clean handkerchief. As soon as she put it away, the door was rudely opened.

A savage man with a beard stared at them viciously, like a poisonous snake staring at a little white mouse, and spoke condescendingly and arrogantly.

"So you're all hiding here. Gather in the front yard. If you don't want to drink the toast, don't blame me for being rude. Come on, take everyone away."

As soon as the savage man finished speaking, the guards behind him reached out and grabbed him.

Lu Qiuling, who grew up in pampered surroundings, had never seen such a scene before. She was so frightened that she burst into tears and called for help from Zheng Jie.

"Mother, mother, I don't want to go with them. They are so scary. Ah, don't catch me, don't catch me. Second brother, third brother, save me, save me."

Lu Qiuling screamed, waved her hands, and used her feet, but was lifted up.

"Let go of my sister. Come at me if you dare. Bullying a little girl is nothing."

The sixteen-year-old Lu Changming relied on his brute force and some kung fu skills to easily break free from the shackles of the two guards.

The silver needle in Lu Changji's hand flew towards the hand of the guard who was holding Lu Qiuling. The man felt pain and Lu Qiuling fell to the ground.

Zheng Jie picked up Lu Qiuling in fear, and Lu Qiuling curled up in her arms, trembling all over.

All the guards were entangled with Lu Changming. Lu Changming had the upper hand for a while. Seeing that the situation was about to get out of control, the bearded man shouted.

"Stop it, or Lu Changgong will die here."

Zheng Jie screamed in horror, heartbreaking despair, "No, no, don't touch my son, Chang Ming, stop, stop."

Seeing this, Lu Changming was stunned for a moment, and angrily threw the big knife in his hand to the ground. The guards took the opportunity to kick his legs, making him kneel on the ground in humiliation.

One of the arrogant guards slapped him several times, "Aren't you very capable? Aren't you a good fighter? Why don't you get up and fight me!"

After saying this, he was still not satisfied and spat in Lu Changming's face.

Lu Changming knelt straight, his fists clenched tightly, the blue veins on his hands protruding like tree roots due to endurance, his eyes bloodshot as he stared at the big knife on Lu Changgong.

Lu Changji also stared at the hand holding the big knife, his eyes were bloodshot and sinister, not like a child at all.

The silver needle in his hand was ready to go. If the bearded man's hand trembled, he would be doomed to fail.

The bearded man looked at the ladies, young masters and young ladies who were once high and mighty, and showed a contemptuous smile. Aren't they now crawling at his feet like dogs?
