Chapter 887 Peace Talks
Lin Tan was caught off guard by his sudden change of topic and could only change the subject, saying, "Let's talk after we finish eating."
She could only hope that Qin Mo would forget about it after he finished eating.
A serious person can become very difficult to deal with once they start acting unseriously.
"Okay." Qin Mo took her hand and led her inside.
His hands were large and his palms were warm.
Holding his hand, Lin Tan felt an unprecedented warmth, like a lone boat adrift at sea finding an island to rest and lean on, a place where she could catch her breath, a place to rely on, a place to trust.
A little while later.
The two walked into the restaurant together.
The manager specially picked them up and took them to the reserved private room.
But Qin Mo never expected to see Yu Peiyun and Qin Luofeng in the restaurant.
These two people couldn't possibly be here.
"Mrs. Yu, Young Master Qin," the restaurant manager greeted them.
Qin Mo frowned slightly.
Their eyes were filled with wariness and vigilance.
"Sister-in-law, brother." Qin Luofeng walked over and greeted them, his face bearing his usual amiable smile.
Qin Mo stared at him.
Lin Tan was also somewhat confused.
Qin Luofeng noticed his wariness and leaned close to his ear to whisper, "Mom and I came to celebrate your marriage registration. After you left, she felt bad and asked me to check your location."
Qin Mo looked at him with even more suspicion.
celebrate?
Based on our previous conversation, he seems like someone who likes to celebrate?
"What are you all standing there for?" Madam Yu said, looking at them. "Go inside and eat."
Qin Mo didn't move.
He didn't think his mother was that kind.
Lin Tan took his arm and led him forward, saying, "Let's go."
A few minutes later.
The four people took their seats in the private room.
As the dishes were served, the atmosphere in the private room became somewhat strained.
It wasn't until the last dish was served, and after Qin Mo had dismissed the restaurant manager, that he spoke directly, his words devoid of any gentleness: "What are you doing here?"
"Don't talk about celebrating." Qin Mo's eyes were cold. "If we really wanted to celebrate, we wouldn't have had that attitude when we came home before."
Yu Peiyun immediately became angry upon hearing this.
Just as she was about to say something, Qin Luofeng nudged her gently with his arm and spoke first: "We are indeed here to celebrate your wedding with your sister-in-law. Mom even prepared a gift."
Qin Mo: "?"
Lin Tan was also slightly surprised.
"I spoke too harshly before." Yu Peiyun suppressed her temper and said what Qin Luofeng had told her to say, taking out a jewelry box from her bag and handing it to Lin Tan, "This is a gift for you."
"Thank you, Mom." Lin Tan accepted it without refusing.
Qin Luofeng: "Aren't you going to open it and see what's inside?"
Lin Tan subconsciously looked at Madam Yu.
Yu Peiyun nodded.
Lin Tan opened it, and inside was a jade bracelet.
Lin Tan didn't know much about jade, but he could tell at a glance that this jade was no ordinary piece.
Qin Mo saw it too.
When he saw the object clearly, a hint of surprise appeared in his eyes, and his gaze towards Yu Peiyun was filled with incomprehension.
It seemed they hadn't expected her to be serious.
“This jade bracelet was given to me by Qin Mo’s grandmother; it’s a family heirloom of the Qin family,” Yu Peiyun said earnestly. “Now that you’ve registered your marriage with Qin Mo, you are the mistress of the Qin family.”
Lin Tan was taken aback.
I glanced at the bracelet again.
“I’m not very satisfied with you. Whether it’s your family background or your personal abilities, you’re not capable of shouldering the heavy responsibility of being the wife of the Qin family head,” Yu Peiyun said bluntly.
Qin Luofeng subconsciously looked at her.
Just as I was about to offer some advice, Yu Peiyun said something else.
“But now that you’re with Qin Mo, there are some things I have to say.” Yu Peiyun’s eyes were serious, and she had a more imposing air than before. “As long as you are Qin Mo’s wife, you must put the Qin family first and learn the proper etiquette and skills.”
“She doesn’t need it…” Qin Mo began to speak.
"Okay," Lin Tan agreed.
Qin Mo looked at her and said, "I'm only marrying you because I want to. You are still yourself and don't need to sacrifice anything for me."
“But I think Mom is right,” Lin Tan said. “Once you’re married, you’re part of the Qin family, and every action you take represents the Qin family’s reputation.”
Qin Mo's eyes darkened slightly.
He doesn't agree with this.
The face he earned as the head of the family was something he earned himself.
“I won’t stop you from acting.” Yu Peiyun adopted the demeanor of a former matriarch of the family. “But since you are a daughter-in-law of the Qin family, I hope that you will only take on one role a year in the future, and spend the rest of your time focusing on the Qin family.”
Lin Tan looked up.
Yu Peiyun: "I'll give you a one-year transition period. If you're still with Qin Mo after a year, then do as I just said."
"Okay," Lin Tan replied with a smile.
"As for you," Yu Peiyun's gaze fell on Qin Mo again, "it's one thing that you didn't tell me about such a big event as getting married, but you don't even have basic manners when you're getting married?"
Qin Mo paused.
For a moment I was stunned.
“Make up for the missing formalities this week,” Yu Peiyun said. “As for the wedding date, you can choose a time to prepare.”
"You..." Qin Mo felt that she was like a completely different person.
This person is completely different from the one who vehemently opposed the relationship and said harsh things before.
"Don't you feel that Mom has suddenly become more understanding?" Qin Luofeng tried to lighten the mood.
Qin Mo did not speak.
But it was accepted as default.
“Mom has always been very understanding, but every time you two meet, it’s like you’re at each other’s throats,” Qin Luofeng said. “You don’t really mean it, but you get provoked by the other person and start saying things you don’t mean.”
Yu Peiyun picked up her teacup, took a sip, and ignored her.
Qin Mo didn't say anything.
In the past, he would have said that he didn't speak recklessly and that what he said was his true opinion.
But after everything that just happened, I feel that saying it that way is inappropriate.
This person is, after all, his own mother.
She also accepted Lin Tan.
"Now that we've talked things out, let's both compromise from now on," Qin Luofeng mediated. "Come back more often when you have time; Mom gets quite bored at home alone."
Qin Mo looked at Yu Peiyun: "I will find a way to get Dad out as soon as possible."
Yu Peiyun's tense emotions instantly dissipated.
Her eyes slowly turned red.
"good."
This was the most harmonious meal I've ever had.
There was no argument.
There was no dissatisfaction.
There were no sharp words, nor rising anger.
Even after finishing the meal, Qin Mo still felt like he was dreaming, as if everything was too unreal.
In the parking lot.
Yu Peiyun stood with Lin Tan, her gaze towards her filled with complex emotions. In the end, she finally spoke her mind: "If you encounter any difficulties outside, just say you are Qin Mo's wife."
Lin Tan was taken aback.
"The rest of the time, you can decide for yourself." Yu Peiyun no longer used the previous constraints to demand of her. "Just don't let others think that the current head of the Qin family is a pushover."
"Okay." Lin Tan's lips curved slightly.
Yu Peiyun looked at her gentle eyes and brows: "Aren't you angry that I said those things to you before?"
Lin Tan shook her head: "I'm not angry."
Yu Peiyun: "Why?"
Lin Tan: "From your perspective, I can understand."
Yu Peiyun: "Let's go back."
Lin Tan: "Okay, you should go back and rest early too."
Yu Peiyun didn't say anything more, turned around and got into the car.
A short while later.
The car then drove out of the parking lot.
On the way back, Qin Luofeng showered Yu Peiyun with compliments.
"You acted quite well just now," Qin Luofeng said. "I was worried when I heard you not follow the script, but luckily what you said later was fine."
Yu Peiyun looked out the window without saying a word.
Qin Luofeng: "After you said that, did my attitude improve a lot?"
Yu Peiyun continued to stare blankly out the window.
"Mom?" Qin Luofeng called her tentatively.
Yu Peiyun looked away, her face showing a more story-telling quality than usual: "I'm not acting."
