Chapter 6 Suspecting her of stealing
"Aren't you moving out? Why aren't you leaving yet?" Huo Zhizhou met her gaze without flinching.
“I would have left even without you saying so.” Jiang Ruan picked up her suitcase. “I can’t stand being in this garbage place for even a second longer.”
She left as soon as she finished speaking, without wasting a second.
Seeing her so decisive, Huo Zhizhou's eyes darkened slightly: "Wait a minute."
Jiang Ruan paused in her steps.
Before she could speak, Huo Zhizhou's gaze fell on her suitcase, and he instructed the bodyguard outside the door: "Take Ms. Jiang's suitcase out and check it to see if there is anything inside that does not belong to her."
"What do you mean?" Jiang Ruan instinctively protected the box.
"Given your recent theft of jewelry, it's hard to be sure you didn't pack anything else in your suitcase." Huo Zhizhou knew how to push someone into a corner. "Checking it out is good for everyone."
"Is that how you see me?" Disappointment and anger flickered in Jiang Ruan's eyes.
For a fleeting moment.
Huo Zhizhou softened his heart.
But remembering how resolutely she had left, he answered expressionlessly, "Yes."
Jiang Ruan felt a sharp, stabbing pain in her heart.
She could accept that Huo Zhizhou didn't love her, and she could accept his aloofness, coldness, and indifference.
But she couldn't accept him humiliating her in front of Su Anran. It was not only questioning her character, but also slapping her in the face.
“I will not accept your invasion of privacy.” Jiang Ruan’s grip on the suitcase handle was heavier than ever before. “If you insist, either call the police to investigate, or cut my hand off the suitcase.”
She just stared at him, still defiant as before.
Huo Zhizhou came up to her and, under her strong and stubborn gaze, pried her fingers off the suitcase one by one.
She gripped it with all her might, but Huo Zhizhou easily broke it.
He handed the suitcase to the bodyguard, handling the whole process like an official business: "Take it and check it thoroughly, don't miss any corner."
The bodyguard readily replied, "Yes."
"Huo Zhizhou!" Jiang Ruan snatched the suitcase with red eyes. She had never suffered such humiliation since she was a child.
Huo Zhizhou remained expressionless, his eyes no longer holding the tenderness and affection of before.
"Are you only satisfied when you trample my dignity into the ground?" At this moment, all of Jiang Ruan's pride from childhood shattered, and the fallen heiress was left only with destitution. "I don't believe you don't know in your heart whether I would take your things or not!"
Huo Zhizhou was well aware of the situation.
He knew Jiang Ruan's personality better than anyone else, and naturally knew she wouldn't take anything else.
He just wanted her to know the consequences of making the wrong choice.
"How about we just forget about it?" Su Anran could tell from Huo Zhizhou's expression that he was reluctant, so she stepped in to give him a way out. "You and Ruan Ruan were husband and wife after all, so it's only right that she took something."
"Can you please shut up?" Jiang Ruan said, just as disgusted with Su Anran as before.
Huo Zhizhou thought she was stupid.
If someone speaks without considering the consequences after being provoked, they'll only suffer a great loss if they go out into the world.
Why can't I just stay by his side obediently?
"You can leave now. I'll let it go this time for An Ran's sake." He didn't make things difficult for her anymore, but his words made Jiang Ruan feel aggrieved.
Jiang Ruan took the suitcase into her hands, and just as she was about to say a few words to them, the butler suddenly came up and said, "Sir, Miss Jiang, the young master has returned."
The group paused for a moment.
Before they could react, Sui Sui, who had a sweet appearance and was wearing overalls, walked in following behind the butler.
