Chapter 802 A Hypocritical Apology
Qin Mo put away his phone, turned his gaze to them, and asked in a distant tone, "What do you want?"
Qin Luofeng: "It's nothing, just..."
Yu Peiyun spoke first, her tone accusatory: "Why didn't you reply to the messages I sent you?"
"I don't want to go back." Qin Mo said simply.
Yu Peiyun was so angry that her original intention to have a good talk instantly turned into criticism: "What kind of attitude is this? I'm your mother! Don't think that just because your father went to jail, no one can control you."
"When have you ever interfered?" Qin Mo asked calmly.
Yu Peiyun wanted to say something to him.
Qin Luofeng tugged at her.
"Didn't you say you needed to talk to me? Why are you saying all this?" Qin Luofeng gave her a look, then looked at Qin Mo and acted as a peacemaker, "Mom actually wanted to come and apologize to you. She felt she spoke too harshly this afternoon and shouldn't have hit you."
"Is that so?" Qin Mo's gaze fell on the person whose face was full of anger.
Qin Luofeng sensed the atmosphere between the two and took the initiative to say, "Of course, I messaged you this afternoon to see where you were so I could come over and talk to you."
Qin Mo's gaze fell on his mother.
"Mom," Qin Luofeng said, trying to ease the tension, tugging at her, "Didn't you want to apologize to my brother?"
Yu Peiyun remained silent.
That was what I was thinking before.
I also feel that I shouldn't have said or done that.
But looking at Qin Mo's attitude and expression, she couldn't bring herself to say those words.
"We're family, some things are better left unsaid," Qin Luofeng continued, trying to lighten the mood.
"Didn't you just say that?" Yu Peiyun still didn't have the courage to say it directly, so she said it with some impatience. "Judging from his expression, he doesn't seem to be planning to accept it."
“How would you know I wouldn’t accept it if you didn’t tell me?” Qin Luofeng said, thinking about what they had discussed in the car. He lowered his voice and whispered in her ear, “Don’t forget, Dad’s second trial still depends on you.”
Yu Peiyun frowned slightly.
The atmosphere became somewhat heavy.
One second.
Two seconds.
...
Ten seconds.
Two minutes passed, and Yu Peiyun remained silent.
Even though Qin Luofeng pulled her several times and called her name softly several times, it was no use.
Seeing this, Qin Mo didn't intend to linger any longer and dismissed him: "Since there's nothing else, I won't stay any longer. I still have work to do later."
The words had barely left his mouth.
Yu Peiyun's words came through.
"I was too harsh with my words today." She began, her voice somewhat stiff, before finally turning her gaze to Qin Mo at the end. "I shouldn't have hit you either. If you hold a grudge, you can hit me back."
Upon hearing this, Qin Mo knew without even thinking that it wasn't a sincere apology.
No mother would let her child hit her back after apologizing; anyone with eyes can tell that was just said in anger.
“As long as you’re willing to continue handling your father’s case,” Yu Peiyun said the second half of the sentence.
Qin Mo's expression remained unchanged: "Is there anything else?"
Yu Peiyun: "That's all."
"I received your apology." Qin Mo did not forgive him; a sincere apology was worthless. "If there's nothing else, you can go back first. I have other things to do."
Hearing him issue the order to leave for the second time, Qin Luofeng knew he was still angry.
Yu Peiyun didn't realize it, assuming that he had always been like this: "Then what about your father's case?"
"I won't interfere. If you trust me, continue using the lawyer I arranged before; he'll handle it. If you don't trust me, you can find your own," Qin Mo said slowly, his thin lips barely moving.
Yu Peiyun's voice rose slightly: "What do you mean?"
Qin Mo: "I want to make things clear enough at the courthouse entrance."
That simple sentence only fueled Yu Peiyun's anger: "I've already apologized to you, what else are you dissatisfied with? Do I have to kneel down and beg you? And kowtow to you twice?"
"Mom!" Qin Luofeng called out.
He never knew that his mother and brother's relationship would be so bad.
He used to think that his brother was quiet and reserved, and that his parents were not good at expressing themselves, which was why they had nothing to say to each other. Now it seems that it wasn't that they had nothing to say to each other at all; his mother really didn't treat his brother like a child.
"I already said I wasn't coming." Yu Peiyun was furious and didn't care about anything else. "Look at his attitude."
Qin Luofeng was about to speak.
Yu Peiyun then said harshly to Qin Mo: "Don't think this family can't survive without you. If you're so capable, then stay this tough for the rest of your life."
After saying that, he turned and stormed off.
Watching her slam the door shut, Qin Luofeng felt utterly exhausted.
He carefully considered his words and said to Qin Mo, "Don't take what Mom said too seriously. She's just too concerned about her image and self-esteem, that's why she acted that way. I'll go back and talk to her properly."
"No need," Qin Mo stopped him.
Qin Luofeng paused.
Qin Mo's words were devoid of warmth: "Just live your lives well."
Qin Luofeng was stunned.
"You don't need to go to great lengths to maintain my relationship with her anymore." Qin Mo made it very clear. "I don't want such apologies and attempts to make amends to appear again."
Qin Luofeng understood his unspoken meaning, and his eyes dimmed slightly as he said, "I understand."
Qin Mo: "Mm."
Qin Luofeng: "Then what about Dad's case..."
Qin Mo: "I've done what I needed to do."
Qin Luofeng suppressed his thoughts and said, "I will explain things to Mom. You don't need to worry about things at home."
Qin Mo: "Mm."
Qin Luofeng: "I'm leaving."
Qin Mo: "No need to see me out."
Not long after.
Qin Mo was the only one left in the room.
He knew his mother would scold him after getting on the bus, and he knew she would tell Qin Luofeng all sorts of things about him being immature and heartless. But after experiencing so much, he stopped caring.
only--
Thinking about Lin Tan's phone call just now, he took out his phone and dialed back.
Upon seeing his call, Lin Tan answered almost instantly: "Hello."
"Mom and Luo Feng were just here," Qin Mo explained. "If I didn't answer, they might get suspicious, so I had to treat your number as a work number."
"I know," Lin Tan said, understanding him. "If we encounter any emergencies in the future, I will also use your phone as a work phone."
Qin Mo's tense heart relaxed slightly, and a warm feeling welled up in his chest.
Besides his grandfather, only Lin Tan would understand him.
"How are you today?" Lin Tan asked tentatively.
Qin Mo: "Hmm?"
Lin Tan: "I've heard about what happened at the court."
Qin Mo was puzzled at first, but soon realized: "Are you talking about my dad's case or the time my mom beat me?"
"Does it hurt?" Lin Tan asked.
Qin Mo wanted to say it didn't hurt.
But selfishness and emotions got the better of him, and he changed the words he was about to say: "A little."
He wanted Lin Tan to care about him.
Even if this request is selfish.
He still wanted to.
"Apply ice for a while," Lin Tan said with concern. "Remember to avoid this kind of thing in the future, and don't try to tough it out."
Qin Mo: "Okay."
Lin Tan: "What do they want from you?"
Qin Mo: "It was a small matter, and it has been taken care of."
Lin Tan: "That's good."
Qin Mo: "Mm."
Knowing that she was filming out of town, Qin Mo couldn't help but ask, "How do you know about the court matters?"
