Chapter 135 I never thought about divorcing you
Huo Zhizhou did not answer and turned back to his car.
Looking at the silent person sitting in the back seat, he sent Jiang Yu a message, got into the driver's seat, started the car, and drove away.
This place.
It's not a good time to discuss business.
"Aren't we waiting for them?" Jiang Ruan asked.
"No need." Huo Zhizhou's voice was still a little low and hoarse, his large, handsome hands resting on the steering wheel. "They're going back to the company, they're going in a different direction."
Jiang Ruan simply said "oh" and didn't ask any further questions.
Silence fell over the car again.
One was driving intently, while the other had his eyes downcast, seemingly lost in thought.
Si Ning, who was outside, saw Huo Zhizhou drive away without saying goodbye. She clicked her tongue and didn't wave to stop him. Instead, she asked Jiang, the assistant who had changed his clothes, "Did your boss arrange a car for us?"
Assistant Jiang: "It's arranged."
Si Ning: "Tell him to bring my computer to work tomorrow."
Assistant Jiang looked at her suspiciously, and asked with a hint of seriousness, "Why don't you say it yourself?"
"It's better to leave this kind of mood-ruining thing to you, my special assistant, to handle." Si Ning smiled, his eyebrows raised in an excessively handsome way.
Assistant Jiang: "..."
Huo Zhizhou remained silent. Apart from the occasional horn horn from outside, the small car was eerily quiet, without even the slightest tire noise.
He glanced at the rearview mirror and saw that Jiang Ruan was looking down, seemingly lost in thought. He then asked, "Back to Ruanyuan or Fengyue Huating?"
“Fengyue Huating,” Jiang Ruan replied.
Huo Zhizhou said "okay".
After that, until they arrived at Fengyue Huating, the two remained silent.
Huo Zhizhou took her home, and this time Jiang Ruan didn't stop him from coming in.
“You…” Jiang Ruan looked at his still slightly damp hair.
"I'm going back next door to take a shower." Huo Zhizhou gave the two of them ample time to think. "You should also wash up quickly. The water in the pool looks clean, but it's still not quite right."
"Okay," Jiang Ruan replied.
Huo Zhizhou hummed in response and went back to his side. After taking off his clothes and entering the bathroom, he turned on the tap and let the cold water pour over his head. The image of Jiang Ruan being held down in the water and unable to struggle played in his mind over and over again.
He felt a heavy pressure in his chest, and at that moment he realized he was wrong.
He shouldn't have argued with Jiang Ruan, shouldn't have wanted her to experience the harsh realities of society, and shouldn't have let his parents do whatever they wanted to her.
Amidst a flurry of thoughts, he made a decision.
He won't leave.
Stop making a fuss.
He couldn't bear to see her get hurt, or to see her being bullied by outsiders.
Even if she doesn't want to, he has to keep her by his side and have a legal identity so that he can stand up for her and help her whenever she is in trouble.
The icy water was poured over his head, slid down his perfect features, across his chest, and finally reached the ground.
It's very cool and cold.
But he knew that none of this could compare to the chilling words Jiang Ruan would say when she rejected him.
It was half an hour later when the two of them dried their hair, got dressed, and met. Jiang Ruan had changed into a more casual everyday outfit, and by then she had completely recovered.
She poured Huo Zhizhou, who was sitting on the sofa, a glass of water: "Thank you for today."
If it weren't for him, she might have suffered even more. She knew how much courage it took to overcome something you were afraid of, so she was very grateful to him.
"No need. The matter arose because of me, so it's only right that I resolve it." Huo Zhizhou never wanted her thanks.
This polite conversation made them seem like strangers in an instant.
Jiang Ruan pursed her lips and looked back at him: "How are you feeling? I've heard that sometimes forcibly overcoming fear can leave some aftereffects."
“Your husband isn’t that weak,” Huo Zhizhou said calmly.
A simple sentence made Jiang Ruan swallow back all the words she was about to say.
The two fell silent once again.
After a while.
Huo Zhizhou had made up his mind. He looked at her with his dark eyes and said, "Jiang Ruan."
Jiang Ruan: "Hmm?"
Huo Zhizhou: "I'm not getting a divorce."
Jiang Ruan paused, her brows furrowing slightly, as if trying to see through his joke.
"During this time, I agreed to your divorce, went with you to the Civil Affairs Bureau to submit the application, and confirmed the time for getting the marriage certificate. I was just keeping you company while you were making a fuss." Huo Zhizhou knew that she would be angry if he said this, but it was more appropriate to be honest about everything at this time.
He didn't want to face it again later.
He wanted to resolve the issue once and for all.
“I never thought about divorcing you.” He looked at her, his words calm and serious. “Even if nothing had happened today, after you signed the papers at the Civil Affairs Bureau next week, I would still leave without signing.”
Jiang Ruan's gratitude was instantly replaced by anger, and a surge of rage rose in her chest: "Should I thank you for your firm choice of me?"
His words made her feel like she had been a fool for trying so hard to get a divorce all this time!
What's the point of persisting? What's the point of trying harder?
He can negate everything about her with just one sentence!
Seeing her prickly appearance, Huo Zhizhou felt a stab in his heart.
A dull, aching pain.
"Divorce." Jiang Ruan's eyes were already red with anger, her emotions reaching their peak at this moment. "We must get a divorce!"
"Ruanruan," Huo Zhizhou tried to comfort her.
"Why should you be able to leave whenever you want, and not leave whenever you don't want to?" Jiang Ruan's emotions were amplified to an extreme degree, and the pent-up feelings in her chest, which could not find a way to express, all turned into sharp words, "How is this any different from your domineering parents!"
When people are extremely angry, they may say hurtful things without thinking.
This was the first time Huo Zhizhou had heard these words from Jiang Ruan, and at that moment he realized that what he had just said to her hurt her even more than telling her about his relationship with Su Anran.
He stood up, walked over, and hugged her.
Jiang Ruan struggled: "Let me go!"
Huo Zhizhou did not release him.
Jiang Ruan hit him, punched him, bit him, and used every venting method she could think of on him.
This time, unlike last time when she simply vented her emotions with a couple of bites, she was really putting in force, using all her strength to convey the anger and fury in her heart to him.
"I'm sorry." Huo Zhizhou was still holding her tightly.
Does it hurt?
It hurt, but he knew that none of that could compare to the pain in Jiang Ruan's heart right now.
Why not let go?
Because he couldn't let go. If he let go, how would Ruan Ruan vent her emotions? He couldn't just leave her here alone, letting her process everything by herself before being forced to accept it.
That would be too cruel to her.
It would be better to let her vent all her emotions on him and make him pay the price for the harm he caused her.
"Ugh!" Jiang Ruan bit mercilessly this time, and blood was already seeping out of Huo Zhizhou's newly changed white shirt.
He didn't stop her, he just held her in his arms as before.
Hugging her might make her hate herself.
But if I don't hug her, she'll cry alone for a long time.
He had always thought he could wait for her to turn back, that she would come back to him after hitting a wall. Now he realized that Jiang Ruan didn't know what turning back meant; she only knew how to go all the way down one path.
If you can't walk anymore, keep crashing.
Either you break through the south wall and continue, or you get knocked down by the south wall and never wake up again.
