Chapter 91 The Unlucky Cat
Chun Tao looked troubled. Prime Minister Yu had ordered that no one in the Prime Minister's residence was allowed to discuss anything about the Second Young Master, and Yu Nian's expression didn't seem like anything good was going on.
"What, are you turning your back on me now? I'm so miserable. I can't even hear the truth from someone who's been with me for so many years. It's really heartbreaking."
Yu Nian pretended to be angry, covered her face, and slumped onto the table.
"Miss, please don't say that."
When Chun Tao saw Yu Nian like this, she also became anxious. She didn't really want to hide it from Yu Nian.
Besides, Yu Nian is the second young master's sister after all. Even if they live separately, they are still family. Asking about her whereabouts shouldn't be a big deal.
"I have heard that the second young master moved there, but I don't know if he still lives there now."
Chun Tao relented, and Yu Nian raised her head with a triumphant smile on her face, showing no trace of sadness or distress.
"Hehe, let's go, show me around."
In the original owner's memories, most of her memories of her second brother were from her childhood. Yu Qiao, who was not good at speaking, would always make some new little toys to make Yu Nian happy.
What Yu Nian found interesting were the small toys that Yu Qiao had designed and made herself. They were very ingenious and incorporated a lot of modern knowledge. In this era, they were called mechanical devices, which was quite advanced.
This is perfect for helping Yu Nian make something; it's a ready-made helper, so it would be a waste not to use it.
Chun Tao reluctantly led Yu Nian out of the Prime Minister's residence. The two of them took several turns and asked around before finally stopping in front of a wooden door in a small alley.
"No. 12 Dongming Street, this is it, Miss."
This place is really hard to find. Don't be fooled by the fact that the address is only six characters long. Dongming Street is located in the suburbs of Kyoto, which can also be called the poor area of Kyoto. The alleys here are crisscrossed, narrow and cramped, and carriages can't get in at all.
Yu Nian's leg injury hadn't fully healed, and after walking for so long without seeing Yu Qiao, she was already feeling quite tired.
Go knock on the door.
Yu Nian raised his handkerchief and wiped the fine sweat from his forehead. Who would have thought that the second young master of the Prime Minister's mansion would live in such a shabby and impoverished place?
Chun Tao walked to the door and gently pushed the door frame. The door creaked open. The old, dilapidated wooden door looked like it was about to collapse, as if Chun Tao could push it down completely if she used a little more force.
Yu Nian: "This..."
Looking at the scene in the courtyard, Yu Nian glanced at Chun Tao with some suspicion.
Are you sure anyone lives in here?
The yard was overgrown with weeds, the tallest of which had grown above Yu Nian's waist. It was early autumn, and some of the weeds were beginning to wither and turn yellow, creating a desolate and dilapidated scene.
If anyone lived there, they wouldn't leave the house in such a state of disrepair.
"Um, miss, I think we should go back. I don't think there's anyone here."
Chun Tao shook her head, thinking that the second young master might have moved away long ago. If there was nothing else, they should go back as soon as possible, especially since this was a poor area. Chun Tao and Yu Nian, two young ladies, were dressed in such fine clothes, which would be very eye-catching and would easily attract the attention of people with ill intentions.
"Since we're already here, let's go in and see what's going on."
Yu Nian regretted not bringing her cane; otherwise, she would have had something to move the weeds.
Chun Tao had no choice but to follow Yu Nian inside. She was squatting on the ground looking for a stick or something when suddenly a cold wind blew by, causing the door panel to sway.
With a loud crash, Chun Tao jumped up from the ground in fright.
"Miss, let's go back. I feel this place is eerie and scary."
Yu Nian didn't think anything of it and patted Chun Tao's back reassuringly.
"It's alright, it's just a bit quieter now, that was just a gust of wind..."
As Yu Nian was speaking, the lush grass suddenly stirred, making a short rustling sound.
Chun Tao was even more frightened now and quickly grabbed Yu Nian's clothes.
"Miss, the grass is so thick, could there be something inside... Let's hurry up and leave."
Not long after, the rustling sound started again, and it got closer and closer. A dark shadow could be vaguely seen, appearing and disappearing in the grass.
Whether it was a person, a beast, or something else hidden inside, they had no idea. It was this unknown fear that made even Yu Nian swallow hard, her heart pounding wildly.
"Then let's go..."
Yu Nian pulled Chun Tao back a step, looking warily at the bushes. This place was indeed too secluded. In this situation, it was best to retreat first.
Just as they reached the door and were about to open it, the dark figure suddenly darted in front of Yu Nian.
Although Chun Tao was terrified, she immediately turned around to protect Yu Nian and shouted something to her.
"Miss, you'd better run! I'll hold him off!"
Chun Tao's eyes were tightly closed, and her face showed an expression of resignation to her fate.
Instead of Yu Nian's reply, Chun Tao was met with a very light and delicate call.
Meow~
Yu Nian looked down at the little black kitten on the ground, whose eyes were amber and golden-green respectively, and was slightly taken aback. Then she found it a little funny.
It's truly terrifying! In broad daylight, two grown men were terrified by a kitten.
"Chuntao, look! What a beautiful black cat with heterochromia!"
Yu Nian has always loved cats, but because she is busy with work, she doesn't have time to take care of them and hasn't been able to raise one herself. Whenever she has free time, she goes to a cat cafe to pet cats and stays there all day.
Chun Tao cautiously opened her eyes, and upon seeing the heterochromatic black cat, she became even more agitated. She quickly reached out and pulled Yu Nian back from bending down to tease the cat.
"Miss! This thing is unlucky; it will attract evil spirits. Look at its eyes, how terrifying they are! If you look at it even once, it will steal your soul. You mustn't touch it!"
Yu Nian did not agree with Chuntao's ancient feudal ideas.
The cat's eyes are different, but it's just a physiological defect and has nothing to do with evil spirits or ghosts.
People often reject things beyond their understanding, believing they will bring misfortune.
"It's not as strange as you say, it's just a cat."
Yu Nian crouched down and reached out her hand to the little black cat with heterochromia.
Because of their physiological defects, these cats have a hard time surviving alone in the wild. Yu Nian observed that this cat was not only round in shape but also very clean, indicating that someone must have taken good care of it.
"Meow~"
The little black cat didn't seem to be shy at all. When Yu Nian reached out her hand, it rubbed its fluffy head against Yu Nian's palm a couple of times and meowed happily.
Yu Nian and the little black cat were playing when a very soft sound came from the direction of the bushes.
"Awakening of Insects, come back."
Yu Nian looked up at the sound and saw a thin boy wearing a wide-brimmed hat that covered the entire upper half of his face.
You can see a small black mole next to the corner of his lips on the half of his face that is visible.
The faded royal blue robe he was wearing, which had been washed countless times, had several patches clumsily stitched on it.
The figure before her seemed somewhat different from the person Yu Nian was searching for deep in her memories.
Before Yu Nian could speak, Chun Tao's surprised voice came from behind her.
