Chapter 18 Do you really not know?

Chapter 18 Do you really not know?

Yu Yue was surprised to find that Gu Yunze, who used to be the top student in her junior high school and later the only one from her junior high school to get into a top university, was also watching the group chat. She thought he was busy and hadn't checked his phone.

[Yu Yue: Yeah, do you work in finance in S City? I just saw you were tagged, why didn't you reply to everyone?]

[Gu Yunze: I'm afraid that if I do it once, there will be no peace and quiet.]

Yu Yue chuckled. Indeed, he had always been very popular in class and was the most outstanding person she knew.

She wouldn't even dare to dream of attending a top university, yet the other person got in without any trouble.

[Gu Yunze: You went home for the Chinese New Year, right?]

[Yu Yue: Hmm, what about you?]

Gu Yunze: Let's go together then, I'll drive.

Yu Yue was taken aback, somewhat surprised. She didn't really want to go back with him, mainly because they hadn't been in contact for a long time, and she didn't know what to talk about on the way back; it would be too awkward.

So she had a sudden inspiration and replied:

[Yu Yue: I have two dogs that I need to take back with me, so it might be inconvenient.]

She knew he was a bit of a germaphobe and probably couldn't stand having two dogs in his car.

To Yu Yue's surprise, Gu Yunze didn't mind at all.

[Gu Yunze: It's okay, that's perfect. It's not safe for you to call a car yourself. I'll go back early on New Year's Eve and pick you up from your house then. Anyway, the car's empty.]

Yu Yue was at a loss for words. She had originally planned to board her two adorable dogs, Meili and Kaixin, at a pet shop and take the high-speed train back home herself. If she hadn't been without a car, she wouldn't have wanted to be separated from her dogs either.

So she went along with it and replied:

[Yu Yue: Okay, thank you!]

Gu Yunze: You're too kind.

The two exchanged phone numbers, and the junior high school class group chat had already been updated with ninety-nine messages.

Yu Yue checked them one by one and found that everyone was already booking restaurants and counting heads.

That's incredibly efficient.

Yu Yue smiled and turned off her phone; she wasn't sure if she would go.

Class reunions after graduation are nothing more than bragging to each other, showing off their achievements, building connections, secretly comparing themselves, and then reminiscing about the past.

She didn't have a very good relationship with her classmates, so getting together didn't seem to have any special meaning.

But Yu Yue didn't refuse; she didn't want to seem like an outsider. If she didn't want to go, it wouldn't be hard to come up with an excuse.

With that in mind, Yu Yue began packing her luggage.

With the Lunar New Year's Eve fast approaching, she wanted to bring beauty and happiness home, so she needed to start preparing in advance.

After thinking for a moment, she sent another message to someone.

I plan to bring beauty and happiness home for the Chinese New Year.

And here's a photo of Kaixin and Meili having fun together.

There was no reply from the other party; they were clearly busy filming.

Yu Yue didn't care and simply turned off her phone.

...

"Where do you live? I'm coming to pick you up now."

Early on the eve of the Lunar New Year, before seven o'clock, Yu Yue received a call from Gu Yunze, and she quickly gave him the address of her residential area.

"Jingxiu Jiayuan residential area?" Gu Yunze was a little surprised, but quickly replied, "It's not far, it takes me about half an hour to get here."

"Okay, thank you." Yu Yue hung up the phone, put leashes on the two dogs, picked up her suitcase, and waited on the public rest bench downstairs in the community.

She first called Lin Shiya to tell her that she had returned. Then, she subconsciously clicked on Xin Qi's profile picture, looked at the long list of dog videos and photos she had sent to Xin Qi, and silently added two more.

Since joining the film crew, he seems to have vanished into thin air. Yu Yue suspects that his film crew may have gone to shoot in the deep mountains or remote wilderness, since there are many war scenes that require riding horses and fighting in the desert, and there might not be any signal for ten days or half a month.

Not long after Yu Yue silently put down her phone, Gu Yunze's car arrived.

It was a dark blue BMW. She didn't know much about cars, but she could tell from the brand that it wasn't cheap.

Gu Yunze opened the car door and got out. This was the first time she had seen him in almost ten years. It could be said that she hadn't seen any of her junior high school classmates in the group for ten years.

The other person was wearing a gray plaid overcoat, which was open, revealing a black suit, a white shirt, and a crisp tie underneath. He looked every bit the sophisticated financial elite.

Time has taken away his youthful spirit, but it has also made him more mature and charming. Yu Yue almost didn't recognize him.

"Long time no see, you're still the same, Yu Yue," Gu Yunze said first, sounding somewhat nostalgic.

"Long time no see, you've changed a lot."

"It's alright, let's talk in the car." Gu Yunze came over and helped her lift her suitcase and put it in the trunk.

Then, looking at the two dogs in her arms, she said, "They're very cute."

"Yes, I'll leave the rest to you." Yu Yue first secured the dogs to the back seat, then went back to sit in the passenger seat and fastened her seatbelt.

"What kind of work are you doing now?" Gu Yunze asked curiously as the car started moving. "It looks pretty good."

Yu Yue knew that the other person was referring to her living in such an expensive luxury community, which meant she must have become rich.

She smiled and shook her head, saying, "No, this apartment was rented to me cheaply by my best friend so I could take care of her dog. I actually quit my job and am now a pet blogger at home."

"A pet blogger?" Gu Yunze asked, somewhat surprised. "Is he one of those internet celebrities?"

"More or less."

"How many followers do you have now? Self-media is a booming industry right now, it's great."

"It's alright, almost 200,000 now," Yu Yue said. "It's definitely a very hot industry."

Gu Yunze was even more surprised now, and said with a smile, "I didn't expect that besides a big star, we also have a big internet celebrity in our class."

Yu Yue hadn't expected the other person to bring up Xin Qi, so her mind raced, and she seized the opportunity to probe, "Speaking of which, how did you two have your falling out?"

Just then, the traffic light turned red. Gu Yunze paused for a moment, his fingertips stroking the leather steering wheel as he looked at the red light at the intersection.

What do you think?

Yu Yue subconsciously pouted, "If I could guess, would I still be asking you?"

Gu Yunze chuckled and turned to look at her, "You're still exactly the same as before."

This is the second time he has said this today.

"Are you really curious?"

"Yeah, I'm so curious," Yu Yue thought to herself, amused that they were keeping her in suspense.

“If I said…” Gu Yunze’s eyes narrowed slightly as he spoke, “the reason we had a conflict was because of you?”

Yu Yue's heart skipped a beat.

Do you believe it?

"I don't believe you." She blurted out instinctively, "What does your breakup have to do with me?"

"You really don't know?"

"Stop keeping me in suspense, Gu Yunze, the academic genius."

Gu Yunze was amused by her. "Okay, I won't keep you in suspense any longer."

In the distance, the red light at the intersection went out and the green light flashed on. He stepped on the gas, turned the steering wheel, and the gleaming glass of his expensive mechanical watch flashed across her profile.

Gu Yunze and Xin Qi are handsome in different ways. If we were to describe them in the style of a campus romance novel, one would be a cool and aloof academic genius, while the other would be a wild and unruly school bully.

However, when the two grew up, the aloof academic genius became a financial tycoon, while the school bully became a celebrity.

Time flies, taking away many old filters and bringing a new side.

"So?" Yu Yue tilted her head and urged.

"Hmm." Gu Yunze pursed his lips, his gaze focused intently ahead, as calm and nonchalant as if he were discussing the weather. "It's all because of you."

Yu Yue was stunned, standing there dumbfounded.

Gu Yunze's fingers tightened and loosened around the steering wheel repeatedly. After a while, he suddenly turned his head, met her shocked gaze, and slowly said, "You really don't know?"

His gaze was focused, as if he wanted to see through her every reaction.
