Chapter 279 We Kill One and Adopt One
Soon, Xiaotuanzi and Huo Linger started arguing again about who was Huo Linger.
"Shut up!" The man was annoyed by the noise and couldn't help but yell at them, "If you dare to yell again, I'll shut your mouth."
Xiaotuanzi and Huo Linger immediately shut their mouths tightly, not daring to say a word.
The man looked at the two kids with disdain and muttered in his heart, "They both look so pretty, but why do they seem to be not very smart?"
He closed his eyes and leaned against the carriage.
Xiaotuanzi and Huo Linger immediately looked at each other in tacit understanding. Huo Linger carefully stretched out her little hand and pointed in the direction of the rear of the car.
This carriage was obviously a simple one. The rear of the carriage was not sealed, but had a small door. If they pushed the door open, they might be able to escape.
The little dumpling nodded in agreement, obviously having the same idea.
However, before the two little guys could make a move, they heard the man say in a cold voice, "If you try to escape and I catch you, I'll break your legs!"
The two little guys immediately didn't dare to move. They leaned against each other, both looking pitiful.
The carriage continued for a long time, as if it went up the mountain, and then walked for half an incense stick of time before finally stopping.
The man got out of the car first, and then directed Xiaotuanzi and Huo Linger to get out quickly.
Xiaotuanzi and Huo Linger got off the carriage hand in hand, and found that they were indeed on the mountain. There was a small courtyard not far away, and a woman was coming out of the courtyard to greet them.
The woman was wearing simple clothes and had a fierce-looking face. When she spoke, her voice was even rougher than the man's.
She looked at the two snow-white balls behind the man and couldn't help but asked in surprise, "Are they...captured?"
"Yeah." The man nodded irritably and ordered the two little guys, "Go in."
Xiaotuanzi and Huo Ling'er walked hand in hand in front of the woman. Xiaotuanzi greeted her in a baby voice, "Hello, Auntie!"
"Oh my, this little girl is so cute," the woman seemed to like her very much and pinched Li Suining's face hard, "Oh my, her skin is so white and tender..."
She looked at the man cheerfully, "Didn't you say you were looking for that Huo Ling'er? Which one is it?"
"It's me!" Xiaotuanzi and Huo Ling'er said in unison.
The woman's eyes widened in surprise.
"Shut up!" The man became even more irritated and ordered the woman coldly, "Lock them in the woodshed first and get me something to eat. I'm hungry."
"Okay." The woman didn't ask any further questions. The more she looked at the two little guys, the more she liked them. She smiled and said to the man, "Kill one of these two little guys and keep the other. Let's keep the one that's not Huo Ling'er's. It's so beautiful."
The man seemed moved. He glanced at the two little ones and told the woman, "Give them something to eat in the evening so they don't starve to death."
"Okay, judging by their little appearances, they can't eat much." The woman became happier and led the two little guys to the east side of the yard.
The little boy quickly ran after him on his short legs and asked curiously, "Aunt, who is Uncle? Why are you arresting us?"
The woman, who was clearly not wary of the two children, replied nonchalantly, "Who could possibly kill people to support his family?"
Xiaotuanzi and Huo Linger immediately looked at each other. They didn't expect that this man was also a killer.
Little Tuanzi continued to ask, "Who wants to kill Huo Ling'er? Who wants to kill me?"
"I don't know. Anyway, someone spent a lot of money to issue this assassination order throughout the Northern Barbarians. Huo Linger's head is really valuable." The woman looked exaggerated.
When she reached the door of the woodshed, she pulled it open and was immediately filled with a cold, damp smell.
The woman continued, "As for who wants to kill Huo Ling'er, we certainly don't know, but..."
Her narrow eyes swept over the faces of the two little guys, "I know, they said that the bounty can only be paid if the little princess's head is brought."
The two little guys' faces turned pale again in an instant and they huddled together tightly.
"So, which of you two is Huo Ling'er? Tell me, and you won't have to stay in this shabby woodshed tonight. Come sleep inside with me, how about that?"
The woman looked at this one and then at that one. She liked both of them and waited for their answer.
"It's me." Li Suining was the first to react and raised his little hand.
"She's not, I am." Huo Linger also reacted immediately and said.
The woman frowned in confusion, wondering if these two brats were really that stupid?
Not far away, the man started urging her to get food, so she had no choice but to leave.
"Forget it, you ungrateful bastards. If you don't want to talk, just go inside." She pushed Li Suining and Huo Ling'er into the woodshed. "I'm telling you, you can't hide anything from each other."
The woman sneered, a hint of pride etched in her words. "I know someone in the palace. When she arrives tomorrow, she'll recognize which of you is Huo Ling'er. Then, those who deserve to die will die, and the one who lied... I'll skin her alive too."
Seeing the two little guys shivering and hugging each other, she closed the door with satisfaction, locked it, and left quickly.
Huo Linger listened carefully to the noise outside and only became bolder after confirming that the woman had left.
She let go of the little dumpling and immediately looked for a place to go out, but the woodshed didn't even have a window.
She pushed the door again, but it wouldn't open.
Obviously, they couldn't escape.
Xiaotuanzi found a place to sit down and tugged at Huo Linger's sleeve, "Miss, you sit here!"
"Who wants to sit here?" Huo Linger couldn't help but get angry. "It's dirty and smelly. I don't want to sit here. I want to go back. I want to go back to the palace!"
As she spoke, her eyes couldn't help but turn red, but she looked at the little girl and tried hard to hold back her tears.
Little Tuanzi is younger than her. If Little Tuanzi doesn’t cry, she shouldn’t cry either.

Huo Ling'er frowned. "Why were you locked up in the woodshed for three days and three nights? Who locked you up?"
