Chapter 16 His Pain
Before him stretched an endless expanse of blackness, which did not feel unfamiliar to Xiao Sui; he simply stood there listlessly.
He didn't know how much time had passed when suddenly a white light appeared, stinging his eyes.
As the light disappeared, he found himself in his old home, where his mother sat in a carved wooden chair, smiling as she asked him, "How is life in Huaguangzong? Are you getting used to it? Have you made any new friends?"
He covered his ears. "Mother, you're asking too many questions."
"What's wrong?" His mother tapped his nose and said with a proud look, "Back then, your mother also wanted to enter the Huaguang Sect, but unfortunately, I was not talented enough, so they didn't want me. I had no choice but to go home and marry your father. Now that I have a son who can enter the Huaguang Sect, I have to show off to everyone. Tell me about your life in the sect."
Xiao Sui shook his head helplessly. In fact, life in Huaguang Sect was not so smooth, but he did not want his mother to worry, so he said the good things: "Master is very good. He often praises my talent, and my fellow disciples treat me very well."
"That's wonderful." His mother stroked his face. "Our Asui is truly remarkable."
Soft fingers landed on his cheek, warm, and pulled him into her arms.
The next moment, the sunlight that had been streaming in suddenly disappeared. Xiao Sui looked out the window in a daze, but heard a faint, ominous sound as something flowed.
He slowly turned his head. His mother's originally gentle face had turned ashen, her eyes bloodshot, staring straight at him.
"Mother?" he called out tentatively, then looked down in horror to see his hands covered in blood, a sword clutched tightly in his hand, the other end of which was already plunged into his mother's abdomen.
What he heard was the sound of blood dripping!
Blood flowed incessantly, staining their hands and clothes red, forming a pool of blood at their feet.
He stared wide-eyed at his dying mother, his hands trembling as he pressed against her bleeding wounds, crying out, "No!"
More and more people rushed over and surrounded him.
"Xiao Sui! You actually killed your mother!" It was his father's voice.
"demon!"
"murderer!"
"Kill him!"
He was roughly grabbed by the hair and clothes, and someone tried to drag him away.
Xiao Sui clutched his mother's bleeding abdomen tightly, howling in pain.
Someone tore his clothes apart, exclaiming, "What's that on him?"
"I don't know, but it doesn't look like a good thing!"
The grip on him gradually loosened, and the people around him stared at him in horror.
Someone cried out in alarm, "He's a demon! This is the mark of a demon!"
Everyone retreated in panic, whispering amongst themselves, but Xiao Sui ignored them all. He knelt down beside his mother, raised his head, and said to the crowd, "Please, save my mother."
However, the only thing he could clearly see was his father's hateful gaze.
“He carries a demonic mark and is prone to losing his mind. This time, he probably lost control of his emotions after arguing with his mother, which led him to do such a heinous thing.”
"Master Jingyan, do you have a way to kill this beast?" His father's voice was like nails, each word piercing his bones, causing him so much pain that he couldn't straighten up.
"I have another use for this child."
"Then... please, Master, keep him in the Huaguang Sect forever. I sever all ties with this beast!"
The scene before him spun rapidly, making him feel nauseous, and the enormous black hole behind him swallowed him completely.
When he opened his eyes again, he saw his mother's gentle face. "A-Sui, are you adapting well to Huaguang Sect?"
Xiao Sui was terrified and hugged his mother tightly. "Get used to it, they treat me very well."
"Then I'm relieved." The person in his arms was getting colder and colder, and Xiao Sui heard the sound of water dripping again. He lowered his head in fright.
Holding a sword that appeared out of nowhere, blood kept flowing from his mother's body, more and more, submerging his knees, waist, and finally his nose.
"Didn't she always brag about her son? How could such an outstanding son kill her?"
"He's a demon, a freak, he only brings misfortune!"
"Even his father wanted to kill him; a man like him deserves to go to the deepest level of hell!"
The voices, seemingly from nowhere, pierced his body like sharp arrows, leaving Xiao Sui struggling in a daze.
Did he do it? Why can't he remember? What exactly happened? Did he argue with his mother? Why?
Is there a demon lurking inside him?
He's going to kill him! He's going to kill this demon!
Thinking this, he stopped moving and let the suffocation overwhelm him.
A faint, clear sound came from afar, and even through the liquid, one could hear a hint of worry.
"Xiao Sui?"
Who was calling him? Xiao Sui listened intently; the voice sounded somewhat familiar.
The voice called out several more times, each time more anxious than the last.
He wanted to see who it was, so he thrashed about, grabbing something soft in the endless sea of blood.
Like driftwood at sea, he finally floated to the surface of the blood-red ocean and got a chance to catch his breath.
He caught a whiff of a sweet, familiar fragrance, which drew him closer involuntarily.
"...Does it hurt a lot?" the voice asked him.
It hurts? It hurts a lot, it really hurts.
He wanted to tell her how much pain he was in, but the warmth from her hand told him that it was a thin, weak wrist, and he shouldn't inflict his pain on anyone else.
He loosened his grip as if burned, not wanting anyone to suffer such pain.
The recurring bloody nightmare seemed to be fading away, the piercing sounds were getting quieter, and he was reluctant to let go of that hand, so he held it gently.
Suddenly, with a "crash," as if something had fallen to the ground or broken, blood gushed out, slamming him hard onto the ground.
In an instant, the world spun around.
——
"Host, do you want to buy enhancement items?" The system's voice was still nagging in my ear.
Ning Qi gritted her teeth and looked at Xiao Sui's pale lips, which were so close to hers, and shouted in her heart, "I won't buy it!"
"You'll regret this!" the system said.
Ning Xi ignored it. Xiao Sui got closer and closer to her, and more people rushed to their side, trying to pull him over.
Xiao Sui suddenly buried his head in her arms, his soft, long hair cascading over her body and tangling with her hair.
Ning Qi was stunned for a moment, then felt the weight on her body and reached out to hug his back.
"Princess?" Qianyu looked at her with difficulty.
She waved for the others to leave, saying, "He won't hurt me."
Xiao Sui seemed to have heard her words, and made no further move, but simply held her hands tightly.
This position was really uncomfortable. Ning Qi turned her head and felt Xiao Sui's breathing. "Let's go to bed and rest for a while, okay?"
Xiao Sui seemed to nod, and she gestured for Qian Yu to come and help. This time, she finally pulled Xiao Sui up and moved her to the bed.
Fortunately, the chains he used were long enough, but Ning Qi's hands were still tightly bound by them, and she couldn't break free no matter what she did.
"Never mind." Ning Qi lay down as well and said to Qian Yu, "I'll rest with him for a while."
She glanced at his blood-covered face again. "Get me another damp cloth so I can wipe his face."
Qianyu glanced at Xiao Sui, then hesitated, "Even if Young Master Xiao is your servant, you shouldn't favor him too much."
Ning Qi smiled helplessly, "Okay, I understand."
Qianyu handed over a damp cloth and then left.
The room finally quieted down, with only their breathing clearly audible.
Ning Qi tried to raise her hand, but he stubbornly held it back, so she could only say, "I'll wipe it for you, I won't leave, okay?"
Xiao Sui then released his grip.
She helped him wipe his face clean, and several times she wanted to lift his blindfold to see his eyes, but then she remembered his resistance and stopped.
After lying flat for a while, Ning Qi carefully observed his face. His expression had returned to calm, unlike the pain he had just shown. Even his brows had smoothed out, and Ning Qi breathed a sigh of relief.
They must have gotten through the most difficult phase.
Moreover, now that he has broken the seal, his body is full of spiritual energy, which should be enough to counteract the toxicity of the medicine.
She carefully sat up, preparing to step over his body to get out of bed.
Just as she lifted her leg, a force suddenly grabbed her waist and pulled her back.
He lay down on the soft bed, his body still surrounded by that familiar handsome face.
"Xiao Sui, are you awake?" she asked.
Xiao Sui did not respond to her, but simply wrapped his arms around her waist.
She was naturally pulled into his arms.
Why did we suddenly become so intimate? Ning Qi pushed his chest, but couldn't budge him at all. She then pushed his arm, but he still wouldn't move.
She struggled for a long time but couldn't break free. A little sweat appeared on her forehead. She grabbed his clothes and took a few breaths, feeling a bit tired.
She decided to give up and stay here until he woke up.
Ning Xi was thinking this, but because she hadn't slept well the night before, she snuggled in his arms and fell asleep without realizing it.
——
"Meow meow meow." Ning Qi saw her own little paws and anxiously jumped up and down in a familiar building.
Hey, what is she doing? Oh right, she's looking for someone.
Suddenly there was a noise at the door. She rushed over immediately and bumped into the man's strong calf, stopping her in her tracks.
The man squatted down, smelling slightly of blood, but said gently, "Niannian, I'm back."
"Why are you only just getting back!" she meowed angrily.
"Sorry, there was a slight problem with the mission, that's why I'm back late."
She hummed in agreement, indicating that she accepted his explanation.
She looked up, still unable to see his face clearly, but she could see the shocking bloodstains on his collarbone and arm. "How did you get hurt? Go get it bandaged!"
The man couldn't understand her words. "Are you hungry? I'll go make you something to eat."
He put down his sword, changed his clothes, and went into the simple kitchen. Ning Qi followed behind him and found that he had no intention of bandaging his wounds.
"Go treat your wound first, I'm not hungry!" Ning Qi jumped onto the stove and called out, but could only make a series of meowing sounds.
"Yes, yes, I know. You chased away the fat tabby cat next door while I was away, didn't you? Niannian is really amazing," the man praised.
Ning Qi stomped her feet in anger, "Idiot, don't misunderstand if you don't understand! I mean, you need to get it bandaged!"
"Alright, the pan-fried anchovies will be ready soon." The person said gently, "It's my fault for coming back so late. Please wait a little longer, okay?"
"It's not about the dried fish!"
Although it smelled really good and made her salivate, there was obviously something more important to do now. Ning Qi simply used her paws to lick the wound on his collarbone. Now he should understand!
Unexpectedly, the man quickly grabbed the back of her neck, pulled her off him, and pointed at her head, saying, "You can't lick here, it's dirty."
How could someone be so stupid that they can't understand meow language at all! Ning Qi was so angry that she felt short of breath and woke up from her dream, but she was still a little stunned.
"System, I think I just had a dream?" she murmured.
"What?"
"I forgot." She tried hard to recall, but only a blank remained. "It felt a little bittersweet, a little funny, and a little happy. What was it...?"
"Dreams aren't important, just forget about them," the system said.
"Okay." Ning Qi stretched, looked up at Xiao Sui's face, and reached out to touch his skin. "Xiao Sui, are you awake?"
Xiao Sui stirred, seemingly waking up. He stood still for a moment, then, realizing their overly intimate posture, abruptly released his hand and sat up.
The temperature beside her instantly cooled down, and Ning Qi watched his movements.
No, isn't this speed of abandoning the bridge after crossing the river a bit too fast?
