Chapter 31 The Princess's Adventure

Chapter 31 The Princess's Adventure

Ning Qi picked up the torch and said to the system, "Once it comes in, I'll shove the torch in its mouth. That should kill it, right?"

"You can give it a try."

"Pah, not a single constructive suggestion. This system is utterly useless," Ning Qi cursed, gripping the rough wood in her hand, the rough surface rubbing against her palm.

The strange sound grew closer and more urgent. She swallowed hard, waiting nervously.

Heavy footsteps sounded at the cave entrance, and soon a dark figure burst in with an odd posture.

Ning Qi, using the firelight to see its appearance clearly, was horrified. Both of its arms were bent backwards, the wounds were so deep that the bone was visible, as if it had fallen from a height and broken them. One side of its cheek was also missing, revealing its teeth.

But it was completely unaware; its eyes turned completely black, and it bared its teeth as it charged at her.

Ugh, it's totally zombies!

Ning Qi screamed inwardly.

A stench wafted towards her. She raised the torch, focused her attention, and precisely shoved the flame into its mouth the instant it charged.

The sizzling sound and the strange aroma of grilled meat instantly filled the air.

However, the Corpse Demon was extremely strong, and even so, Ning Qi was unable to stop its attack and was knocked to the ground.

Ignoring the pain in her back, she used her other hand to brace against the bottom of the stick that was about to slip from her grasp, gritting her teeth and desperately stabbing upwards.

With the firelight so close, she felt the pressure on her loosen, and immediately raised her leg, kicking the corpse demon recklessly, trying to knock him off.

The corpse demon roared, perhaps due to severe damage to its mouth, or perhaps because it was already seriously injured, yet it was actually pushed by Ning Qi.

Overjoyed, she kicked him away in one go, immediately flipped over and pinned him down. The torch in her hand was gripped tightly by the flame, almost extinguished, but the temperature was still considerable.

She stabbed the corpse demon in the mouth with all her might, then grabbed a stone and smashed it against its face and neck until she could no longer feel the struggle beneath her. Only then did she get off it and pant heavily to the side.

"I'm really amazing," she boasted to the system.

The system ignored her.

Ning Qi turned her head to look at the corpse demon's face, which was already bleeding reddish-brown blood and was unrecognizable.

But she could remember what it looked like when it came in; it didn't belong to anyone in the village chief's family.

That means there are other corpse demons here!

Now she dared not be careless. She looked around, picked up a sharp-edged stone, and took out a few sticks from the fire, trying to sharpen their edges.

For a moment, the sound of stones and wood colliding echoed in the cave, and wood chips kept falling.

Ning Qi suddenly raised her head and glanced at the large rock inside the cave. This rock blocked the way, preventing her from going any further.

But she thought she saw the stone move out of the corner of her eye just now.

She immediately inquired with the system and received an affirmative answer.

"This is not good. There seems to be something in the cave as well," the system said.

Ning Qi: "!"

Could it be another zombie demon? Was it trapped inside by the earthquake and is now trying to break free after hearing my voice?

She dared not be careless and sped up the process of whittling the wood.

The stone moved again, this time making a louder sound, as if something inside was hitting the stone with great force and was about to come out.

Ning Qi couldn't stay in this place any longer. She grabbed a few sharpened pieces of wood and rushed out of the cave.

Fortunately, the rain had stopped outside, and she stood guard at the cave entrance, waiting for her chance to strike.

By the light of the campfire, she could see that a crack quickly appeared on the boulder, and then the crack grew larger and larger, causing small stones on the cave ceiling to fall down with a crash.

With a loud crash, the boulder shattered into pieces, as if a strong gust of wind had blown out of the cave. She saw a huge lizard emerge from it, and her jaw nearly dropped in astonishment.

This lizard's eyes were as big as rice bowls, and its dense, yellowish-brown scales were like sharp blades, giving people goosebumps.

“This…” she stammered as she asked the system, “Is this body shape accurate? It looks like a dinosaur!”

"This should be that level one demonic beast," the system said.

Ning Qi let out a silent wail. How incredibly unlucky she was! How could she run into everything like this!

But there was no time to think about it further, as the giant lizard pounced on the corpse demon, grabbing its body and trying to swallow it whole.

"It eats corpse demons?! Will it mutate too?" she quickly asked the system.

"Of course, both animals and monsters can mutate."

The crisp sound of bones popping could be heard from inside, indicating that the monitor lizard had already started eating.

Ning Qi felt a chill run down her spine and retreated very quietly, praying that Qian Yu and A Ying would realize she was missing and come looking for her quickly.

This forest is terrifying.

She carefully moved away from the cave, and after taking a dozen steps back, the deep, terrifying voice came from behind her again.

Another corpse demon is coming this way!

Ning Qi hid behind a tree, holding the piece of wood in her hand.

A faint light was already appearing on the horizon, allowing her to barely see.

She listened intently to the location of the sound, observing carefully.

The sound was getting closer and closer, and it was already near the cave entrance.

She peeked out and saw the village chief, who had turned into a corpse demon.

Its eyes were black, and it made sounds while looking around, as if searching for food.

Ning Qi steadied her breathing, and as it approached the cave entrance, she reached out and threw a wooden stick into the cave.

The sound of the wooden stick rolling around was particularly clear, and the village chief, who had turned into a corpse demon, was immediately drawn to it and rushed into the cave.

Soon, roars and howls came from inside, indicating that the village chief and the monster were facing off.

Ning Qi didn't care who would win, and took advantage of their fight to run away.

"Quickly point me back to the village!"

In an emergency, the system stopped talking to her about points and simply drew a route in her mind.

"Damn it, if you have this function, why didn't you bring it out sooner?" Ning Qi cursed inwardly.

The system remained silent.

At that moment, she noticed something rapidly approaching from behind, its footsteps making a very faint sound on the grass.

Ning Qi didn't dare to look back at all, and ran desperately in the direction the system had given her.

A gust of wind swept past her from behind, and in the next instant, she was knocked to the ground by a powerful force, and a sharp pain immediately shot through her calf.

She turned her head and saw that the lizard had already grabbed her legs and was raising its huge head to throw her up.

Its eyes turned completely black, and it looked like it had become a corpse demon.

"Purchase items that enhance strength..."

Before she could finish speaking, a gust of wind appeared, lifting the stray strands of hair that had fallen across her temples.

Before she could react, a gleaming sword was already embedded in the lizard's head.

The lizard opened its mouth and howled, then attacked with its head behind it.

A figure steadily suppressed it until it finally breathed its last.

The man wearing a black veil immediately dismounted from it, knelt before Ning Qi, and touched her bitten calf with his hand, his voice trembling, "Princess."

Ning Qi saw the familiar veiled hat and breathed a huge sigh of relief, her eyes even welling up with tears. "Xiao Sui, what brings you here?"

Xiao Sui lowered his head, his slender, pale fingers resting on her calf, carefully feeling around. "Are you injured?"

Ning Qi pressed her hand against the back of his hand, feeling its soothing warmth.

"It doesn't hurt much, it should just be a scratch." She was comforting him when she suddenly remembered something, her heart sank, and she abruptly pushed Xiao Sui away. "Oh no! This monster had already turned into a corpse demon before it bit me. I... I might mutate too, you should stay away from me."
