Chapter 45 Xu Subo: If all else fails, tomorrow...
Fang Xingu was confused. Was Jing Yitong serious or joking? He was going to Los Angeles to attend Xu Subo's wedding, and Jing Yitong was going too?
Given the relationship between the two, would Xu Subo invite Jing Yitong to her wedding?
Fang Xin was unsure: "Did Su Bo send you?"
Jing Yitong betrayed Xu Subo without hesitation: "Yes, she sent me an invitation a few days ago and even asked me to fly to Los Angeles with you. Didn't she tell you?"
Fang Xin's fist hardened. "You, Xu Subo, have prepared such a big surprise for me, haven't you?"
But when Fang Xin looked up and saw the smile on Jing Yitong's face, he keenly sensed something, and his expression immediately turned dangerous: "...You're not exactly an honest person either." Still pretending? He must be secretly working with Xu Subo, deliberately keeping it from him!
Jing Yitong looked completely innocent: "How did I not tell the truth? Didn't I confess to you?"
Fang Xingu was taken aback by his sophistry: "You clearly can't hide this anymore, so you have no choice but to confess to me."
The two started chatting as if no one else was around, until Li Wenyu finally couldn't help but interrupt them: "Hey, I can't take it anymore! We're not dead yet, are you two just giving up on the act?"
Jing Yitong crossed his arms: "What were we acting out?"
"Pretend you don't know her!" Li Wenyu pointed at Meng Hui, "Don't scare Sister Hui, she doesn't know anything about you."
“Hey,” Meng Hui interjected promptly, “who said I don’t know?”
Fang Xingu said calmly, "Is it possible that Sister Hui was the first person to know about this?"
Meng Hui explained with a smile, "I know Xin Gu's mother and have always known about Xin Gu and Yi Tong."
Others: ...
A few days ago, a group of people thought they had kept Meng Hui in the dark, but now they realized that they were the ones who were "Mongolians." Led by Li Wenyu, the others immediately exclaimed, "Sister Hui, you knew all along but didn't tell us! That's so unfair!"
While the group was still making a fuss, Fang Xingu and Jing Yi said goodbye to them and left for the airport.
Because it was a private trip, the two did not bring any assistants and set off for Los Angeles alone.
There are no direct flights from Ushuaia to Los Angeles; they have to transfer in Buenos Aires and Panama, a journey that takes more than 30 hours.
That afternoon, they arrived in Buenos Aires and together picked out a wedding gift for Xu Subo that was extremely poor value for money and looked good but was not practical. After taking a short nap, they transferred to a flight via Panama to Los Angeles.
Perhaps because it was Christmas, even the airport was filled with the festive atmosphere. Fang Xingu and Jing Yitong walked out of the airport and waited at the exit for a while but still didn't see Xu Subo. Jing Yitong couldn't help but tease Xu Subo: "Is she reliable?"
Fang Xin said with a laugh, "When you and she were secretly having an affair behind my back, why didn't you ask me if she was reliable?"
Although Jing Yitong knew that Fang Xingu wasn't really angry, he still honestly admitted his mistake: "I know I was wrong."
As the two were chatting, a roaring sound suddenly came from the road. They looked toward the source of the sound and saw a flashy and eye-catching purple supercar driving toward them before screeching to a stop in front of them.
The driver's side door opened, and a strikingly beautiful woman stepped out. She was very tall with a great figure, and her long chestnut-brown curly hair fluttered in the wind. She put her sunglasses on her head, blew a kiss to Fang Xingu, and then ran over to hug him eagerly: "Ah, Xingu, you're finally here! I missed you so much!"
The person who came was the excited Xu Subo. Fang Xin was hugged by her and helplessly wanted to raise his hand to hug her back, but before he could reach out, Xu Subo was pulled away from behind.
Jing Yitong pried Xu Subo, who was hugging Fang Xin's body, apart and looked at her kindly: "Mrs. Evans, as a married person, please be mindful of keeping your distance from other men to avoid causing unnecessary misunderstandings."
Having just received her marriage certificate, Xu Subo angrily shoved Jing Yitong away. Although she had long since given up on worldly desires for Fang Xin Gu and simply regarded him as a good friend, this did not stop Xu Subo from still disliking Jing Yitong. She glared at Jing Yitong and said, "Xin Gu hasn't said anything, so what right do you have to speak?"
Jing Yitong shrugged, his smile unchanged: "I was just kindly reminding you not to forget your place."
Seeing the two of them start being sarcastic again as soon as they met, Fang Xingu speechlessly separated them and skillfully changed the subject: "Can you stop being so confrontational? If you're so annoyed with each other, why did one of you invite the other to your own wedding, and the other actually accepted?"
Jing Yitong and Xu Subo glanced at Fang Xingu silently, their thoughts surprisingly in unison: Isn't this all for you?
Unfortunately, Fang Xin had no idea what they were thinking. He just glanced at the extravagantly designed supercar that Xu Subo had parked on the side of the road and his forehead twitched again: "Why did you drive a two-seater supercar? There are three of us."
"Hmph," Xu Subo tossed her newly permed wavy hair and gave Jing Yitong a disdainful look. "I'm only responsible for picking you up. Jing Yitong can just follow behind my car."
Fang Xin patted her on the shoulder and said, "I'm serious."
Xu Subo said angrily, "Don't worry, he'll get his share. He can just travel in the van with your luggage."
Xu Subo pointed behind them, and only then did the two notice that there was a low-key black minivan parked behind the supercar.
Fang Xingu breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that Xu Subo was indeed not that unreliable, but he also felt that it was not good to let Jing Yitong ride alone. Otherwise, he would ride in the van with Jing Yitong.
As it turned out, Xu Subo seemed to have seen through his plan and quickly gave him a fierce look—you dare to sit down and try!
Fang Xingu understood the fierceness in her eyes, and finally could only shake his head apologetically to Jing Yitong, and then get into the passenger seat of the supercar with Xu Subo.
As soon as the car door closed, Xu Subo completely abandoned her airs and began to gesticulate wildly: "Ugh, Jing Yitong is still as annoying as ever!"
Fang Xingu looked at her frantic state and couldn't understand what was going on in her head: "Didn't you invite him over yourself?"
At this point, Xu Subo chuckled strangely again. She had originally thought Jing Yitong was a bit odd and wanted to call everyone over to observe him more closely and see if she could discover anything. Who knew that there would be such a good show to watch now.
She asked gossipily, "How are things going between you two now? Tell me in detail!"
Fang Xin feigned composure; "What can happen? It's just like this."
"...Still pretending with me? Don't you know you can't suppress your smile right now?" Xu Subo looked at his still radiant smile with disdain. "I take back what I said about Jing Yitong being pretentious, because you seem to be even more pretentious than him. Of course, I didn't mean to say that Jing Yitong isn't pretentious."
Fang Xingu touched the corner of his mouth and realized that he had actually been smiling the whole time. Embarrassed, he buried his face in his palms and chuckled softly.
Xu Subo couldn't bear to watch any longer, so she stepped on the gas and drove off to the restaurant: "When are you planning to accept the marriage proposal from the Jing family?"
Fang Xingu was also a little confused: "I don't know... maybe when he mentions it to me next time?" He missed the last opportunity when Jing Yitong invited him, and now it felt strange to bring it up on his own initiative.
Xu Subo analyzed for him: "It's right that you didn't agree immediately. The Jing family just wants to use your parents' connections to pave the way for themselves. They need your help anyway, so you can't let them know that you really like Jing Yitong, lest you be manipulated."
Fang Xingu found these words increasingly grating, and he frowned and said, "What do you mean by 'holding back'? They're not that kind of people."
Seeing his thoroughly bewitched appearance, Xu Subo slammed his fist on the steering wheel in exasperation, "Your Majesty, these are all the heartfelt words of this old minister!"
"Minister Xu, tell me about your affairs," Fang Xingu waved his hand, then glanced at Xu Subo. He noticed that she looked radiant today. Even ignoring her makeup, one could tell that she was in good health and had a happy smile on her face. Clearly, she had been having a good time lately. "You've been doing well lately?"
Xu Subo: "Of course!"
Xu Subo and Fang Xingu were classmates in high school. However, at that time, the Xu family had already declined, and the market share of their business in the domestic market was shrinking. Xu's parents could only focus their energy on the overseas market and were constantly traveling abroad.
Seeing the sudden change in her family and her parents not around, Xu Subo, a teenage girl, felt lost and helpless, and her days passed in a daze. Later, it was only after listening to Fang Xingu's advice that she changed her ways and cheered herself up to start anew.
After graduating from high school, she finally couldn't hold back and confessed her feelings to Fang Xingu. Fang Xingu looked surprised, obviously only seeing her as a friend. He also sincerely told her that he already had someone he liked, and that person was Jing Yitong.
Xu Subo was devastated. She could accept that Fang Xingu didn't like her, and she could accept that Fang Xingu was a lesbian, but she couldn't accept that the person Fang Xingu liked was Jing Yitong—the person she hated most in her life was Jing Yitong!
Actually, she wasn't very familiar with Jing Yitong. Although they were schoolmates, they had only met a few times because of Fang Xin's past. But sometimes, you don't need a reason to dislike someone. She and Jing Yitong didn't get along, and she felt uncomfortable with each other every time they met.
With her Dao heart shattered, Xu Subo fled abroad in a panic. Unexpectedly, the Xu family had been doing very well overseas in recent years. When Xu Subo's parents saw her arrive, they immediately decided to let her stay.
So Xu Supo really left for good. She started a life of settling down, studying and working in Los Angeles. At first, she was unfamiliar with the place and people, so she could only harass Fang Xin Gu, the culprit who caused her to go abroad, every day. Later, she met her current husband, Evans, and finally felt a sense of belonging here. She and her husband were not only well-matched in terms of social status, but also had a good relationship, so they naturally decided to get married.
When talking about this, Xu Subo excitedly recounted how much she had put into planning the wedding, and she didn't stop talking until they arrived at the restaurant.
Jing Yitong was already waiting for them at the restaurant. When the two arrived, Jing Yitong got up and pulled out the chair next to Fang Xingu. Then, he mocked Xu Subo mercilessly: "It seems your driving skills still need improvement. I've been waiting for you here for a full five minutes."
Xu Subo sat down opposite Fang Xingu and said meaningfully, "You can't even wait this long? You'll have to wait a long time to come."
Fang Xin sat down next to Jing Yitong, pretending not to hear their barbed conversation.
While waiting for the waiter to bring the food, Jing Yitong helped Fang Xingu put on his napkin, and asked Xu Subo with feigned concern, "Why didn't your husband come?"
Xu Subo covered her mouth and laughed: "Today is my bachelor night, of course I have to indulge myself, don't you think, Xin Gu?"
But Xu Subo's flirtatious glances were clearly meant for the blind. Fang Xingu frowned rather uncooperatively and said, "Speak properly, be normal."
Xu Subo: ...
In the first round of the competition, Jing Yitong won a great victory. He smiled provocatively at Xu Subo, who was almost furious. In the end, Fang Xingu lifted his eyelids and tapped the table, which finally calmed the two of them down.
After managing to finish his meal peacefully, Fang Xin took the tissue Jing Yitong offered to wipe his mouth. Xu Subo watched their natural interaction and felt a chill run down her spine. Sure enough, these two were still so lovey-dovey. If things got really bad, she'd just let them get married tomorrow.
As Xu Subo was inwardly grumbling, Fang Xin called her a few times: "Subo, are you still going back to China to hold the wedding?"
Xu Subo then came to her senses and replied, "Now only our branch of the Xu family has moved out, but according to custom, we still have to go back and hold a wedding. I expect it to be in the first half of next year."
Fang Xingu nodded: "Okay, just let me know if there's anything I can help with."
Jing Yitong couldn't stand how he spoiled Xu Subo. She was about to get married, and he was still rushing to help her plan her wedding. What kind of behavior was that?
So Jing Yitong said, "No, you'll be busy preparing your album next year. If Subo needs anything, just come to me for help."
The moment Xu Subo heard her name from Jing Yitong's lips, she shuddered. For the first time, she felt her own name could be so disgusting. The thought that by the time she returned to China for her wedding, these two might already be registered, filled her with anguish, and she didn't want to acknowledge this smug little man at all.
After dinner, Xu Subo drove the two back to the hotel. As usual, Fang Xin rode in her supercar, while Jing Yi rode in a minivan.
In the sports car, Fang Xin handed her the gift he had bought in Buenos Aires the day before: "Happy wedding, this is a wedding gift for you."
Xu Subo didn't stand on ceremony with him, smiling as she accepted the gift, then looked around and asked, "Just one serving? Jing Yitong didn't prepare one for me?"
Fang Xingu: "Huh? We bought this together."
Xu Subo was silent for a moment: "...You two aren't even married yet, and you've already tacitly agreed that you're one?"
Fang Xingu slapped her away: "What nonsense are you spouting now?"
Xu Subo felt the gift in her hand was a little too hot, but after hesitating for a long time, she finally accepted it. Then she took out a room key and handed it to Fang Xingu: "Here, the hotel room has been booked for you."
Thanks.
Fang Xin opened it and took a look. He found that there was only a room key inside, so he continued to hold the room key in mid-air.
Xu Subo looked at his gesture and asked curiously, "What are you doing?"
Fang Xingu asked in confusion, "What about the other room key?"
"Oh, this?" Xu Subo winked with a grin. "You two are already one, so of course I only booked one room for you. How thoughtful of me, right?"
Fang Xin looked at the card and then at her: "...Are you serious?"
Xu Subo raised her head and puffed out her chest: "Of course I'm serious."
