Chapter 20 Subverting Cognition
"I like it..." she finally replied helplessly under his expectant gaze. "But from now on... could you please stop specimenizing living things?"
"Why?" Fan Yi was genuinely confused. "This way, it can stay with you forever."
Si Tang couldn't explain it in a few words, "Because I prefer them to be alive and flying freely between heaven and earth."
"Oh, really?" Fan Yi lowered his eyelashes and didn't ask any further questions.
"Yeah, I'll take this for now."
Si Tang felt it would be impolite to go back, so he looked around where the specimen was placed, and awkwardly placed the butterfly specimen on the table behind him.
So she didn't hear the man's whisper behind her.
"Tangtang likes them, but I don't. Compared to them flying freely, I prefer them to be frozen in my palm forever."
Fan Yi's eyelashes cast shadows under his eyelids, covering the darkness of his eyes.
After Si Tang put the butterfly specimen away, he turned around and happened to see him smiling gently at him, looking very easy to talk to.
"Fan Yi, I'm a bit bored in the cave every day. Can you let me come and go freely?" Si Tang asked cautiously.
Fan Yi clenched his palms silently, his long snow-white eyelashes slowly covering his eyelids, making it impossible to see the expression in his eyes.
After a moment, he answered softly under her pleading gaze.
"Tangtang, this barrier is to protect you."
Si Tang thought again of the wild beast he encountered when he first escaped.
She lowered her head and said, "Okay, I'm just too bored. Can you prepare some painting materials for me? I want to paint to pass the time."
Si Tang is a student at the prestigious A University's Design Institute. His family owns a world-renowned jewelry company. Inspired by his mother from a young age, Si Tang possesses a natural talent for painting and design. After his mother's death, Si Tang aspires to inherit her legacy. And the Si family must not fall into the hands of that woman.
"Of course no problem." Fan Yi replied.
Then he closed his eyes, as if sensing the ships on the sea. Soon the cave was filled with palettes, paints, brushes, easels, and paper.
"Fan Yi, you are amazing." Si Tang looked at him with sparkling eyes. "Did you also search from the ship?"
Fan Yi curled the corners of his lips, "There just happened to be a cargo ship carrying these."
Si Tang gathered up the painting materials eagerly, and his mood improved a bit.
Fan Yi used his magic to help her put it in place. The sunlight shining on the scene before her eyes was like a poem from the old times, full of warmth.
After everything was in place, Si Tang began to sharpen pencils and lay out the paper.
Fan Yi sat on his obsidian throne and began to read quietly.
Si Tang took a quick glance and found it odd. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say this deity had a bad temper, yet it actually enjoyed something as self-cultivating as reading.
However, the cover this time was slightly yellowed, and it looked more like an ancient picture book, but there was not a single word on the cover.
Si Tang walked closer curiously. Fan Yi noticed her approaching and quickly closed the book.
But Si Tang still caught a glimpse of a corner of the content. Her face quickly heated up and she raised her finger and pointed at the other person in disbelief.
"Fan Yi, you—you are looking at—"
Fan Yi coughed lightly and said calmly, "Although as a god I have no desires, it might be a good idea to learn a little in advance to make my mating season easier."
Now it was Si Tang's turn to be speechless.
"Are there any serious books in your library?" Si Tang cast a suspicious look at him.
Fan Yi paused and silently rummaged in his own space.
After a while, under Si Tang's curious and expectant gaze, he took out a manual with a blank cover.
"What is this?" Si Tang leaned over to take a look curiously.
"I don't know either." Fan Yi replied. He wanted to open it, but he found that the manual required a password to open it.
He suffers from amnesia and truly does not know the origins of everything in his library.
This was undoubtedly something he had left behind, but...what about the password? Fan Yi entered his birthday, but it was wrong.
Fan Yi and Si Tang looked at each other. Si Tang was very surprised and pointed at the wrong password Fan Yi had just entered. "You, you even forgot your password?"
Fan Yi sighed softly and told her the truth, "I lost my memory. The gods said I had committed too many sins, so they punished me. For some reason, I lost my memory in that punishment. I only have three hundred years of memories left in Atlantis."
Si Tang was stunned. "Are you talking about that strange thunder when I first met you?"
Fan Yi nodded.
She paused, then continued, "Do you know how old you are?"
"I forgot, but according to 8856, I should be three thousand years old."
"Three thousand years old?!" Si Tang sighed. However, when he thought that gods should be tens of thousands or hundreds of millions of years old, then the one in front of him must still be a baby god, right?
To verify her idea, Fan Yi said, "I am the youngest among the gods."
"Who is 8856?" Si Tang asked curiously. This was the first time Fan Yi had opened up to her about his "past" and "background."
Does this mean that he truly considers her a friend?
"8856 is the divine messenger who governs the laws of nature in this world." At this point, Fan Yi casually revealed the world's deepest secret to her, "In fact, this world is a huge scam."
"What's the meaning?"
"Everyone's life is programmed, a destiny written by the goddess of fate. Perhaps you can understand it as the world is made up of fiction."
This statement completely overturned Si Tang's cognition. But the existence of this fish was beyond cognition.
"I see. However, no matter what the truth of the world is, our feelings at this moment are real, so we should just consider the experience as worthwhile." Si Tang said.
Fan Yi didn't know if he was touched by her naivety, so he smiled softly.
"You're right. But what if you got a bad script from the beginning?"
"What?" Si Tang was stunned for a moment, then understood what he meant.
Yes, if life is a destiny line written in advance, then some people are born as protagonists, some are supporting roles, some are NPCs, and some people live a miserable life without control, commonly known as cannon fodder.
Why?
Si Tang thought in a daze.
If this is true, it would be such a sad thing.
"Okay." Fan Yi gently touched her head, interrupting her thoughts, "I won't let you become the protagonist of a bad script."
Si Tang blinked, looked up and saw him looking at her seriously.
Si Tang never thought that this conversation between her and Fan Yi would run through her entire life.
