The head of the medical association clearly recognized them as well, nodding without saying much, but a hint of worry flashed across his face when he looked at the merfolk in the crowd.
Over here, Dongfang Mian, Yan Lin, and Aju were grabbed by the giant hand and plunged straight into the sea. They thought they would drown, but they discovered that the seabed was actually a hidden world.
It appeared to be a fairly large city, shrouded in a sphere of light resembling a water shield.
The group, who were about to suffocate from holding their breath, were instantly able to breathe fresh air after entering the range of the light sphere.
The group was casually tossed to the ground, with no time to check their surroundings, and they simply took deep breaths of fresh air.
"Bring them here," a dignified voice rang out.
Several mermaid guards appeared beside them, armed and expressionless, and led Dongfang Mian and the others to an exquisite and magnificent palace.
Inside the palace sat a dozen or so merfolk elders. The one sitting at the head of the table seemed to be the current leader of the merfolk tribe. His strong and muscular body, coupled with a fish tail covered in golden scales, gave him a look of utter contempt as he looked at Dongfang Mian and the others.
"So you're the new humans from Qingshui City? I heard you used a very powerful water-attribute skill in the competition held in Qingshui City today? Show it to me."
"Why should I show it to you? Do you even know that...?" Before she could finish speaking, Yan Lin was slapped away and crashed heavily to the ground.
“Show me, or you will all die,” the merman chieftain said coldly.
A pang of heartache flashed in Dongfang Mian's eyes as she looked at Yan Lin, but when she turned to look at the mermaid chieftain, her eyes were filled with rage as she stared intently at him as he unleashed his water shield.
The mermaid chieftain and a group of mermaid elders meticulously examined the sphere of water shield, inch by inch, and finally nodded in unison.
“That’s right, this is the treasure that our mermaid clan lost in ancient times,” a mermaid elder said with certainty.
The merman chieftain's gaze turned even more hostile. "Speak! When did you steal our treasure, and what were your intentions?"
"Heh, how can you be the clan leader with an IQ like that? I already said it was lost in ancient times, not stolen by me, how would I know what your intentions are?" Dongfang Mian said coldly.
"Human, you're courting death."
"Really? I'm so scared. I thought you would try every means to make me hand it over, but I didn't expect you to be so generous as to let the merfolk's treasure be buried with me," Dongfang Mian laughed.
“I can take it even if I kill you,” the mermaid chieftain said.
"Oh? Then I suggest you consult that elder over there again and ask him if you can get the treasure if I don't cooperate, since the treasure has already become one with me," Dongfang Mian said nonchalantly.
The mermaid chieftain's face was gloomy. He knew without asking that what Dongfang Mian said was true, and that he had only been trying to scare them.
The mermaid chieftain had never seen this legendary treasure before, but had only learned about it from the ancient books of the mermaid tribe.
After hearing what Dongfang Mian said, he started to calculate in his mind, fearing that he might really have destroyed the treasure.
"Let's lock them up first," the merman chieftain said, waving his hand.
The mermaid guards obeyed the order and threw the group into the mermaid clan's dungeon. The entire dungeon was covered with restrictions, and even an emperor, let alone a holy emperor like Dongfang Mian, would probably not be able to escape so easily.
He tossed the group in without a second thought and walked away without looking back.
"I didn't expect the merfolk to be so domineering," Dongfang Mian said. She thought that with her outstanding performance in the competition, she would have the opportunity to communicate with the merfolk on an equal footing, but the reality was completely the opposite of what she had imagined.
