Chapter 72: I am still living a carefree life
Dusk slowly fell, quietly enveloping the hustle and bustle of the capital.
Nangong Ling brought Zhu Wenqin to their place of residence in the capital city - the backyard of the largest cloth shop in the capital city.
Nangong Ling placed Zhu Wenqin on the couch, turned around, picked up the tea on the table, and carefully fed it into Zhu Wenqin's mouth.
Following a dull cough, Zhu Wenqin's tightly closed eyes slowly opened.
Seeing Zhu Wenqin wake up, Nangong Ling's heart finally settled down. He said half-jokingly:
"Guard Zhu, there's no need to be so sad. How about you just follow me?"
Zhu Wenqin acted as if she didn't hear anything. Her eyes were empty and she had completely lost her former spirit. She stared at the beams without blinking, as if she was under a spell.
Nangong Ling raised her hand and gently waved it in front of Zhu Wenqin's eyes. The smile on her face gradually disappeared, replaced by full of worry:
"Guard Zhu, you are not angry enough to go crazy, are you?"
Zhu Wenqin's tears burst out without warning and slowly slid down his slightly pale cheeks, but he remained motionless.
Nangong Ling was now completely anxious: "Guard Zhu, please say something! Otherwise, I will go find Jing Siye to ask him clearly."
"Master Nangong,"
Zhu Wenqin finally spoke, her voice as hoarse as sandpaper.
"Don't go, don't disturb others."
After saying that, he slowly turned his head and buried his face deeply in the pillow, and suppressed crying sounds came intermittently.
Nangong Ling sighed helplessly, slowly sat down beside the couch, and gently advised:
"Guard Zhu, we all saw that the door of Zhaonan Palace was not open. Your prince must not be willing to go. Since you don't want to go today, then rest here tonight. Tomorrow, the Japanese leader will accompany you to ask clearly."
Jing Siye no longer had any interest in anything else. He sent someone to the teahouse at the foot of Chi Ming Ya to inquire, which was the meeting place he and Nangong Ling agreed upon.
But the news received was that Nangong Ling had not returned to Chilian Ya and was apparently still in the capital. So he searched all over the capital overnight, turning over almost every corner.
Until the sky turned pale and the morning light appeared, Jing Siye still found nothing.
He dragged his exhausted body back to the bedroom. The emptiness in the bedroom was like an invisible net that wrapped him tightly and pressed him so hard that he could hardly breathe.
In the past, Zhu Wenqin's noise and various mischief made this cold palace full of vitality, but now, there is only endless loneliness and desolation.
He stood in the hall, his eyes scanning every corner, as if he could still see his naughty figure and hear his clear laughter.
He couldn't imagine how sad and disappointed Zhu Wenqin must be at this moment.
Jing Siye staggered to the bedside, his fingers gently stroking the sheets and pillow he had slept on. For the first time in more than 20 years, tears flowed uncontrollably because of his beloved.
The next morning, at daybreak, Qi Feng tiptoed into the bedroom carrying breakfast.
As soon as I entered the room, I saw Jing Siye lying on the bed with his clothes on, holding Zhu Wenqin's pillow tightly in his arms.
Qi Feng's heart trembled. He didn't dare to make a sound to disturb them. He put the breakfast on the table quietly and left quietly.
Xue Nian came out of the room and saw Qi Feng sitting on a stone bench in the yard in a daze with red eyes. He couldn't help but walk up to him and asked:
"Qi Feng, what's wrong with you?"
Qi Feng looked up at him, then turned his head to look in the direction of the bedroom and whispered:
"I don't know how Guard Zhu is doing now. He must be extremely sad right now."
Xue Nian sighed, nodded and said, "Yes, feelings are really hurtful to both you and others. Look at our prince, how dignified and stern he is on weekdays, when has he ever been so distraught as he is now?"
Qi Feng was silent for a moment, then suddenly looked up at Xue Nian, with a tentative tone in his voice:
"So, Xue Nian, will you get married or not?"
Xue Nian was stunned and suddenly speechless. If it were in the past, he would have answered "yes" without hesitation, but now, he didn't know how to answer.
He subconsciously avoided Qi Feng's gaze and whispered, "Yes... I think so, but..."
Qi Feng asked: "But what?"
Xue Nian opened his mouth, but found that he couldn't say anything. He was flustered and stood up quickly, pretending to be calm and said:
"Um, Qi Feng, let me go call the prince, the breakfast will be cold soon."
After saying this, he turned hurriedly and walked towards the bedroom, his steps a little messy. Only after he was out of Qi Feng's sight did he quietly breathe a sigh of relief, secretly rejoicing in his heart:
Fortunately, he didn't notice anything. If Qi Feng knew how I felt about him, I’m afraid he would ignore me from now on.
Xue Nian stood at the door of the bedroom, raised his hand and knocked gently on the door, calling in a low voice:
"Your Majesty, breakfast is ready. Please help yourself."
There was silence in the bedroom, no response.
Xue Nian frowned, and summoned up the courage to call out again:
"Your Majesty?"
"If you don't eat, you'll starve to death."
Nangong Ling's voice floated from behind, with a hint of sarcasm.
"Guard Zhu is almost heartbroken anyway, so it doesn't matter whether your prince is hungry or not."
Just as he finished speaking, the door of the bedroom was suddenly pushed open. Jing Siye rushed out with a haggard face, bloodshot eyes and an anxious expression.
He grabbed Nangong Ling's arm and said in a hoarse and hurried voice:
"Nangong Ling, where have you been? Where did you take Qin'er?"
After he finished speaking, he looked anxiously behind Nangong Ling, but he only saw an empty courtyard, and his heart suddenly sank:
"Where's Qin'er? Where is he?"
Nangong Ling smiled coldly, shook off his arm, put his hands behind his back, looked at him sideways, and questioned in his tone:
"King Zhaonan, why don't you explain first, what's going on?"
Jing Siye's body swayed slightly. He raised his hand to support his forehead, looking tired and painful. Then he slowly walked towards the study.
Nangong Ling saw this and followed.
In the study, Jing Siye turned his back to the door, with his hands behind his back. After a moment of silence, he whispered:
"It is the Queen Mother's order."
Nangong Ling stepped forward, with a bit of disdain in her tone:
"The Queen Mother? She has only been back in the palace for a few days, and she is already in a hurry to grant you a marriage? She is so idle."
He paused, then suddenly gave a playful smile, and said frivolously:
"Well, I am the leader of this sect and I am free and happy, with no elders or children. Otherwise, you can let me take care of the little guy, and I promise not to let him get hurt at all, how about that?"
Upon hearing this, Jing Siye glanced at him coldly.
Gnashing his teeth, he said word for word:
"It's not impossible for me to live a carefree life..."
