Chapter 124 The Return Journey

For two or three days in a row, whenever it was time to sleep, everyone would lock the door and go into the space.

Every day they come in to do some work, chat, and if it's still early, they might watch a horror movie or something.

Today was no exception; Chen Siyu noticed Zheng Wan's low spirits as soon as she entered.

"What happened? Did your sister beat you up again today?"

Zheng Wan smiled slightly upon hearing this, "Isn't getting beaten up a daily occurrence for me? I'm used to it."

If she hadn't been beaten, there couldn't be any other reason. Chen Siyu turned her gaze to the other three people, "Are you leaving?"

Cheng Zhi nodded. "We should go now. If we don't leave soon, we'll run into a thick fog and won't be able to leave."

Since the apocalypse, the internet has been paralyzed, and their schedules have been quite chaotic. Fortunately, Cheng Zhi has been keeping a daily record, otherwise there would have been no way to avoid it.

Fortunately, although Zheng Wan was in low spirits, she didn't cry, and they even gathered together to chat.

Chen Siyu suddenly remembered the two boys and asked them what their plans were.

Xiao Feiran put down her milk and said with a smile, "These two have been patrolling and doing rescues with the eldest sister these days. They're already planning to join the team, with room and board provided. They didn't come back tonight; they're staying at the team's place."

Upon hearing this news, Chen Siyu was quite surprised. She hadn't expected that four people would be left behind in Yudu. Suddenly, she felt less lonely.

Everyone was quite surprised that they stayed, but only a few of them remained relatively calm.

Huang Yiyi's gaze remained fixed on the orange tree in the yard. "They've finally found a home. That's great. They get food and lodging, and they can get some experience too."

Seeing Huang Yiyi staring intently at the courtyard outside, Chen Siyu and Zheng Wan sat up abruptly, as if they had come back from the dead.

"There are still books in the room! Quickly bring them to upgrade and expand!"

After saying that, the two of them darted out, and Cheng Zhi and the others quickly followed Zheng Wan's footsteps.

The four of them walked down to the basement in the dark, bypassed Zheng Mo's snack cabinet, and went to the innermost room, which was filled with books.

Seeing so many books, Cheng Zhi visibly became excited. "Wow! What's going on with your family? You own a bookstore?"

Zheng Wan leaned against the bookshelf, holding a flashlight. "The books we've collected from the five of us since we were little are really this many. Plus, Zheng Ling and Zheng Yi loved reading novels when they were young, so that's all we have."

Xiao Feiran's hand was already on the shelf when she suddenly remembered Zheng Hao and withdrew her hand. She asked sincerely, "These books are for your sisters. If we take them, what if they need them later and find they're gone? Wouldn't that be terrible for you?"

Zheng Wan waved her hand dismissively, "Look how much dust has accumulated here. They won't remember. Besides, Zheng Mo was clamoring to clean this place up and use it as her editing room a while ago. Everyone knows that, so take it without worry!"

After learning that they wouldn't suffer any consequences even if they took Zheng Wan's books, they sprang into action and quickly acquired all the books.

Back in their room, they couldn't wait to enter the space. The interior of the house seemed unchanged, except that the yard outside had grown larger. If it was originally only the size of a dormitory, now, after continuous upgrades, the land was the size of two basketball courts.

Zheng Wan was thrilled to see how much bigger it had become; she was going to plant everything there tomorrow.

When Chen Siyu heard that Zheng Wan wanted to plant something, she said she would help, since she was free anyway.

Cheng Zhi, standing nearby, clapped her hands repeatedly, "That's great! We're going to have another bumper harvest. We still have to pay protection money when we go back to Pengcheng, so if we plant now, we won't have to worry about not having enough to eat later."

The five of them chatted for a while longer before going back to sleep.

The four of them were on Zheng Wan's two-meter-long bed. Although it was crowded, they felt at ease.

The next morning, they got up early, and Zheng Wan saw them off at the door and watched them leave.

Following the route out of the city, they encountered the eldest sister Zheng Hao, as well as Qi Yanche and Chen Yiyi.

Zheng Hao rolled down the car window, wished them a safe journey, gave them a lot of instructions, and then drove off.

Qi Yanche and Chen Yiyi were wearing raincoats and face masks, making it difficult to see their faces clearly.

Qi Yanche looked at Cheng Zhi standing behind him. His older sister had already said everything that needed to be said, and he didn't know what to say. After a long while, he said, "It's a pity that we can't bring the fries with us while on duty. They haven't had a chance to say goodbye to you properly yet."

The three girls were originally in a stable mood, but when French fries were mentioned, their noses started to sting.

Xiao Feiran took a deep breath and replied loudly, "Hey! What are you saying? What farewell? The earth is round, we'll meet again sooner or later, don't be so sentimental!"

The girl didn't cry, but Chen Yiyi broke down. Luckily, he was wearing a mask, so others couldn't see the tears in his eyes.

Chen Yiyi also imitated Xiao Feiran and spoke loudly, "That's right! Don't be so sad, let's all live well! Meeting up is a piece of cake, let's go, let's go, a car is coming from behind."

After saying this, he went downstairs.

Qi Yanche glanced at Cheng Zhi one last time and took a step back.

Huang Yiyi closed the car window and looked in the rearview mirror. She saw Chen Yiyi's slightly trembling back. She looked away and drove away.

The car disappeared from their sight, and the two men were still watching.

Zheng Hao walked over and looked at the two lost young people. He had seen through everything. "They're gone. What's the use of being sad here? If you're so capable, go after them."

Qi Yanche shook his head, "We've been protected by them all this way. We're too useless to dare to chase after them."

Hearing such self-aware words, Zheng Hao felt that this young man was still salvageable. He patted Qi Yanche on the shoulder and said, "It's not too late to know that you're useless. Start now, in every aspect, to make yourself stronger as soon as possible, and then hurry up and catch up, otherwise you really won't be able to catch up."

Qi Yanche nodded obediently.

The eldest sister nodded in satisfaction, then turned her gaze to Chen Yiyi, who was still crying.

"..." Zheng Hao punched him, "What's wrong with you? Did you get a truck in your eye and start crying like that? Was there a girl you like on the truck too?"

Chen Yiyi painfully covered the part where her older sister had hit her, "I don't know either, it's just that the atmosphere of saying goodbye in the rain made me really want to cry."

Zheng Hao and Qi Yanche: "..." So you cried for so long just because you were so caught up in the atmosphere that you couldn't pull yourself out. I'm speechless.
