The snow fell all day and stopped at dawn the next day.
Cheng Zhi and Xiao Feiran thought they should work as long as possible, so they left home around 8 a.m.
I originally wanted to call Cheng Ye to come along, but it seems that this guy stayed up all night again yesterday. His eyes were covered in dark circles, and he was sleeping so soundly that I couldn't wake him up at all.
They didn't want to waste time, so they left immediately.
The two drove to the square, and their first customer arrived shortly after the sign was put up. Cheng Zhi looked up and recognized the girl who had bought stockings before. Although it was the second time they had met, she was still timid and whispered what she wanted to buy.
Upon hearing the names of the items, Xiao Feiran began looking at the list. "A cat bed, let me take a look. Please wait a moment."
Xiao Feiran frantically flipped through the list, but couldn't find it even after a long time.
Cheng Zhi simply joined in the search, though they didn't really expect to find anything like it. After all, these packages were collected from around the school, and the school prohibited keeping pets in the dorms, so the chances of finding a cat's nest were extremely slim.
The list was arranged from most to least, and Xiao Weiran finally saw two cat beds at the very bottom.
The girl opposite had been waiting for a long time and was about to give up, but when she heard that there were two, a hint of happiness appeared on her face. "I'll take both of them. How much do you want?"
Xiao Feiran and Cheng Zhi had become quite skilled at selling things after so many days. Cheng Zhi smiled but didn't directly say what she wanted. Instead, she suggested, "Rice, flour, cooking oil, instant potato chips, medicine, etc. We can make anything useful."
Upon hearing this, the girl indeed began to recall what she had at home. "Twenty bags of low-fat chicken breast and three boxes of cold medicine powder. Is that acceptable to you?"
Cheng Zhi and Xiao Feiran exchanged a glance, and the deal was done.
From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., they sold two cat beds, a box of condoms, and two packs of cigarettes. Although it was only three orders, they earned enough food for their family for a month, and they were very satisfied.
They weren't greedy, and happily packed up and went home. Xiao Feiran drove there, but Cheng Zhi drove back.
Looking at the snow on the road, Xiao Feiran, who was sitting next to him, couldn't help but sigh.
Upon noticing her sudden outburst, Cheng Zhi asked, "What's wrong? Why are you being so emo in broad daylight?"
Xiao Feiran smiled. She wasn't worried at all; she was just concerned. "The weather is going to warm up, and the ice and snow will finally melt."
It turned out that Xiao Feiran was worried about this matter. Cheng Zhi looked at the road ahead and comforted her, "Oh, don't worry, we're fully equipped this time, we'll be fine staying at home."
Looking at Cheng Zhi's profile, Xiao Feiran suddenly had an image flash through her mind. In an unfinished building, Cheng Zhi and Chen Siyu lay on a worn-out mattress, both with bloodstains around their mouths, lying weakly, struggling to breathe. Xiao Feiran, wearing a mask, kept wiping the bloodstains from their faces and necks. Before she could finish wiping Chen Siyu's face, Cheng Zhi leaned over the bed and vomited blood again.
Xiao Feiran was lost in her memories, and Cheng Zhi called her name for a long time before she came to her senses.
Cheng Zhi knew what she was thinking without even looking, but unfortunately, she was too clumsy with words and didn't know how to comfort people, so she could only repeat those two sentences over and over again.
Xiao Feiran calmed herself down and finally relaxed a little. She muttered to herself, "Yes, it definitely won't happen again this time."
Xiao Feiran was absent-minded all day, and didn't respond even when Cheng Ma called her several times. Cheng Ma comforted her, saying that it was never good to keep things bottled up, but she just smiled and didn't answer.
"Feiran seems to have something on her mind. If you know why, you can try to comfort her. She almost scalded herself while pouring water just now. That was dangerous, understand?" Cheng's mother pulled Cheng Zhi into the room and instructed her.
Cheng Zhi knew the reason, of course. She nodded and didn't say anything else.
As night fell, everyone went back to their rooms to sleep, and Cheng Zhi and the others also turned off their lights and went to bed early. In the darkness, Cheng Zhi looked at Xiao Feiran's back and gently rubbed her back comfortingly.
Cheng Zhi didn't know how long she had slept when she was woken up by a series of cries. She quickly reached out and turned on the light, only to find that Xiao Feiran was having a nightmare, crying and screaming with tears streaming down her face.
Cheng Zhi tried to grab her hand, hoping to pull Xiao Feiran out of her nightmare, but she was unsuccessful.
Finally, Xiao Feiran gasped for breath and abruptly opened her eyes. Looking at Cheng Zhi in front of her, she couldn't tell if it was a dream or reality.
She gripped Cheng Zhi's hand tightly, feeling its warmth, and choked out, "I dreamt about you and Siyu again. You two kept coughing up blood, and we couldn't stop it. Then you died, and I was all alone in the world... sob sob..."
Sure enough, she dreamt of her past life again. Cheng Zhi took Xiao Feiran's hand and placed it on her warm face, gently comforting her, "No, it's all a nightmare. We didn't die of illness in our past life, and we certainly won't in this one. We'll never abandon you. Don't be afraid, don't be afraid. Look, you're touching me. I'm healthy. I won't die..."
With Cheng Zhi's comforting words, Xiao Feiran gradually stopped crying and fell asleep again.
Seeing that Xiao Feiran had fallen asleep, Cheng Zhi withdrew her hand, went into her spatial storage to get a pack of wet wipes, and wiped away the tears and sweat from Xiao Feiran's face.
I lay back down, intending to turn off the bedside lamp, but ultimately I didn't.
Xiao Feiran's awakening made Cheng Zhi realize Xiao Feiran's true fear. It turned out that what was most painful for Xiao Feiran was not death, but the death of her friends, leaving her all alone in the world.
Abandoned by her parents as a child, she was fortunate enough to meet a few close friends, but they all left one by one. This is what Xiao Feiran finds most unacceptable.
