During the more than half a month of raging sandstorms, Cheng Zhi and her friends sneaked out again, but this time they didn't bring Cheng Ye with them.
The three of them looked around the wholesale market, and following Zheng Wan's and their parents' instructions, they picked up all kinds of rice, flour, cooking oil, and seasonings.
Without Cheng Ye around, they took a lot, but they didn't take it all; they left quite a bit for others.
When I got home, I saw Cheng Ye sitting by the door wrapped in a blanket, looking very resentful. "You guys sneaked out without me!"
Cheng Zhi wasn't intimidated at all; she hadn't agreed to anything, so what was there to be afraid of?
Cheng Zhi pulled Xiao Feiran around him and went inside, saying, "I promised to take you last time, but I didn't this time. Don't try to blackmail me with family ties or morality!"
Xiao Feiran turned to look at Cheng Ye, who looked like an abandoned puppy, and prepared to make up a lie to comfort him, "It's not that we don't want to take you. We're going to find sanitary napkins this time, so it's okay to take you, but Yiyi and I are still a little shy."
The explanation was perfect, and Cheng Ye lost her temper. She jumped up, bowed to her two older sisters, and went back to sleep.
Cheng Zhi, who was sitting at the dining table drinking water, looked at Xie and shook her head, "You're such a kind person, even making up a lie to comfort him."
Xiao Feiran shrugged. "It's not a big deal, we can just brush it off."
Because of their differing opinions, Cheng Zhi and Xiao Feiran didn't continue the conversation and went back to sleep.
Just as the two lay down and hadn't even closed their eyes, the bed suddenly started shaking. Cheng Zhi thought Xiao Feiran was turning over, but she didn't move at all. Looking past Xiao Feiran, Cheng Zhi saw the glass of water on the bedside table, which had been shaken so badly that it spilled out.
Now that it was confirmed to be an earthquake, Cheng Zhi immediately pulled up Xiao Feiran, who was still lying in bed, and then went to knock on her parents' door, leaving Xiao Feiran to wait for her parents, and then went to rescue Cheng Ye.
The family ran frantically downstairs, forgetting to lock the door. By the time they got out of the building, the ground had returned to calm.
If it weren't for the scattered people in the neighborhood and Huang Yiyi's family, Cheng Zhi would have doubted whether she was imagining things.
After making this trip, Cheng's mother's heart was pounding in her chest. She grabbed Cheng's father's arm in fear, "My God, was it an earthquake?"
Cheng Zhi comforted her parents, while Huang Yiyi came over and whispered to Xiao Feiran, "What's going on? Wasn't there a sandstorm right now in my past life? How come there's suddenly an earthquake?"
Xiao Feiran mentally reviewed the situation and realized it was indeed true. "There was no earthquake at this time in my previous life, but we were in Xiashan back then. Perhaps the earthquake only affected the area around Yangzhou and didn't reach Xiashan?"
Currently, this is the only explanation that makes sense.
A group of people waited in the open space for a long time, afraid that there would be another earthquake and dared not go home.
Huang Yiyi and the others decided to go home, since their house was on the first floor and they could run directly into the yard by opening the door to the living room.
The two families returned to Yiyi's house and sat in the living room, not daring to go back to their rooms to sleep.
Huang Yiyi laid out the Ludo carpet and brought out blankets. "You guys go to sleep. We little ones will keep watch over you until you're all asleep, then it's our turn to sleep."
The four elders were clearly not at ease, so Cheng Zhi stepped forward and said, "Were we the ones who called you just now? We are very perceptive. You should go to sleep."
They all came out to persuade them before they could finally sleep peacefully.
Cheng Zhi sighed. Xiao Feiran wanted to comfort her, but was afraid of disturbing the parents, so he took out his computer from his space, created a Word document, and communicated with Cheng Zhi.
Xiao Feiran put a question mark on his face and handed it to Cheng Zhi.
Cheng Zhi typed on the keyboard, "I've been living too comfortably lately and almost forgot that this is the end of the world. The earthquake just now made me nervous again."
Xiao Feiran took it, "Sigh...me too, we still need to be more vigilant."
That concluded their conversation.
Huang Yiyi squeezed between them from behind, handed them two super sour lemon candies, and whispered, "To perk you up."
Cheng Zhi smiled and touched Huang Yiyi's arm to express her gratitude. Suddenly, she remembered that Cheng Ye wanted to turn around and look, so Huang Yiyi patted her hand and said, "Don't worry, I gave him three, and I also lent him my treasured Doraemon book. He won't be bored."
Cheng Zhi glanced at it and realized that it was true; Cheng Ye over there had already taken a liking to her.
The three of them huddled together, wrapped in a blanket, gazing up at the starry sky.
There were no more tremors until dawn. The parents woke up and went back to their rooms to sleep.
As a boy, Cheng Ye certainly couldn't go with his sisters, so his father quickly took him to the study and brought out a folding bed that was behind the door. "Son, you'll have to make do here for now."
Cheng Ye wasn't picky about beds, so after thanking Huang's father, she lay down.
There were several small tremors during the day, but they were all very minor, unlike the larger ones that occurred at night.
Mr. and Mrs. Huang were on tenterhooks, so they took out the tent they used for camping before. "Let's just pitch the tent in the yard and stay here. My heart can't take this."
Cheng Zhi and the others were very supportive of this and actually set up the tent near the balcony.
For two consecutive days, Cheng Zhi and the others stayed on the first floor.
Because there were so many people, the three of them didn't go into the space much; they would just grab something and come out.
On the third day, there were no more tremors all day, so Cheng Zhi and the others decided to go back.
