For the next six days, Cheng Zhi would take the baby to play with Zhi Yu every day.
Zhiyu's condition is getting better and better, and she is talking more. Although she still doesn't speak on her own initiative, she is willing to respond whenever a girl asks her a question.
On the last day, Cheng Zhi told her younger sister that the baby would be leaving the next day.
Zhiyu didn't cry or make a fuss. She calmly looked at Cheng Zhi and asked, "Does the little baby want to go back to find his mother?"
Cheng Zhi didn't know how to tell her younger sister about this for a moment. Just as she was thinking about it, her younger sister suddenly spoke up again.
She turned her gaze to the child in Cheng Zhi's arms and whispered, "He doesn't have a mother anymore. He will never find his mother again."
Hearing this, Chen Siyu, who was sitting on the bed, patted her little sister's head comfortingly, "Although she doesn't have a mother anymore, she will still meet someone who loves her in the future."
The younger sister turned around and stared into her older sister's eyes, as if to confirm whether what she said was true.
After the two children were tired from playing, Cheng Zhi took them away.
While breastfeeding in the space, Cheng Zhi suddenly remembered what was going to happen tomorrow.
She went back and told Chen Siyu, "Please tell Wanzi that we'll take him back at eight o'clock tomorrow morning, don't forget."
Chen Siyu noted it down, "I guarantee I will complete the mission."
After returning to the space, Cheng Zhi handed the child over to Xiao Feiran while she tidied up the child's things.
Looking at the child in her arms, Xiao Feiran couldn't help but sigh, "Actually, this child is quite well-behaved. In seven days, he only cried once or twice. The rest of the time he either eats or sleeps. He's incredibly easy to take care of."
Hearing this, Cheng Zhi, who was folding clothes nearby, couldn't help but laugh. "You're still naive. It may be easy to raise now, but it might not be easy later. We should hurry up and take the child to a reliable person. It wouldn't be good to lead the flower bud of our motherland astray."
After dinner, Cheng Zhi and Xiao Feiran were washing the dishes. While they were washing, Xiao Feiran suddenly remembered something. She lowered her voice and said, "In two more days, it will be ten months. The road ahead will be even more difficult."
Cheng Zhi, who was standing next to her, paused in her work and stared blankly at the foam in the plate for a while. "It's hard to walk, but we can keep going. Don't worry."
The next day at 8 a.m., Cheng Zhi and Zheng Wan arrived at the hospital on time, carrying their child and belongings.
They were about to ask the front desk about the child when suddenly the nurse from that day came out of the room next door.
The three of them had talked before, so the nurse recognized them at a glance. "You're really punctual, just in time. Come with me."
After walking through a long corridor and passing many consultation rooms, they arrived at a room in another building.
This room is full of children, of all ages, big and small.
The nurse standing next to them explained, "We can't leave the recovered children in the hospital all the time. We've discussed it with the rescue team and the orphanage. The children will be handed over to them for care."
Zheng Wan handed the baby's unused items to the nurse, and after the nurse put the items away, she came over to hold the baby.
Looking at the slightly rounder baby, the nurse thanked them, "You've taken good care of him. Thank you for your hard work this past week. If there's nothing else, you can go now. A car will come to pick them up at 10 o'clock."
They didn't linger for long; Cheng Zhi patted the child's head and left.
On the way back, Cheng Zhi didn't really feel anything, but Zheng Wan next to her sighed, "Born in the apocalypse, his life won't be easy from now on, and there are all those children in the house, it's not easy for them either."
After saying this, no one around her reacted. Zheng Wan glanced at Cheng Zhi and asked, "What's wrong with you? You're not saying a word. Are you reluctant to part with him?"
Cheng Zhi shook her head. "It hasn't come to that yet. I'm just thinking about other things."
"What is it?" Zheng Wan pressed.
Cheng Zhi lowered her head and kicked away a small stone at her feet. "I'm thinking about how we're going to survive."
Zheng Wan didn't react for a moment, but after she understood what Cheng Zhi was talking about, she also began to zone out.
The two were each lost in their own thoughts and didn't speak to each other the rest of the way.
When they arrived at Zheng Wan's door, Cheng Zhi suddenly became full of energy and said to Zheng Wan, "As long as you don't give up, there's always a way! Remember to come to my space before bed tonight, let's have a meeting!"
After returning home, Cheng Zhi took a shower.
After getting ready, Cheng Zhi went straight to the kitchen, where she filled a whole table with pots, pans, egg beaters, and other tools.
Hearing the noise, the whole family ran over and peered inside from the door frame.
"Feiran, what is Zhizhi doing? Has she told you?" Cheng's mother patted Xiao Feiran on the shoulder and asked.
Xiao Feiran shook her head vigorously, replying softly, "She didn't tell me she was going to cook lunch today."
Looking at the table full of tools, Mr. Cheng remarked, "They don't look like they're for cooking; they're probably making desserts, right?"
Squatting on the ground, Cheng Ye gradually wore a pained expression. "No way! She can't even make the simplest bread in a rice cooker properly. Can her desserts really be eaten?"
Hearing Cheng Ye say that, Cheng's father tapped him on the head, somewhat displeased, "We have to trust your sister; her cooking skills have improved a lot."
Cheng Ye smiled and looked up, "Then if my sister fails later, Dad, you'll have to eat the rest of the defective product yourself. I won't help you this time!"
