Chapter 239 First Appearance

They didn't stop until the sun went down.

Everyone was quite tired, so Zheng Wan simply started a fire on the spot and threw in a few potatoes and sweet potatoes.

When Ivan arrived and saw the five houses that were beginning to take shape, he was shocked. "You guys are so fast!"

Cheng Zhi, who was helping her older sister hammer nails, said with a smile, "There are many of us, so we can finish quickly."

Ivan reached out, gesturing for him to help, "You should rest for a bit."

Cheng Zhi was indeed tired, and without refusing, she handed the hammer to Ivan.

Qi Yanche, who was digging a pit on the other side, stopped moving as soon as he saw him coming.

Shen Lingfeng leaned over and said, "Big brother, it's getting dark. We need to hurry. There are bears around here!"

Considering his brother's safety, Qi Yanche looked away and continued digging the pit.

The sweet potatoes were left there to roast, and once Zheng Wan felt a little warmer, she went over to help.

They stopped working only after they had used up the last piece of wood.

Looking at the paper with confidence, Xiao Feiran said, "Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we should be able to finish building it by tomorrow."

As Cheng Zhi peeled a sweet potato, she said, "See? I told you everything would go smoothly with you around."

Xiao Feiran turned to look at Cheng Zhi, "You're clearly the main player, okay? You haven't rested all day."

Ivan couldn't help but laugh as he watched them take credit for each other. "Haha, you two are so cute. Don't be modest. You all deserve credit. It wouldn't be right if any of you were missing."

Zheng Wan, who was eating potatoes, nodded, "That's right, that's right, don't hold back, hurry up and eat, then go back to sleep, we have to come back at dawn tomorrow."

Everyone was starving, so they quickly finished their food, made a simple mark, and headed back.

Ivan waved his flashlight. "I'll lead the way. There are trees everywhere here, you might get lost."

As she passed the boys, Cheng Zhi stopped and said, "You guys should finish up quickly too, and come back tomorrow morning."

The other three boys all agreed, but Qi Yanche was the only one who didn't respond.

Cheng Zhi tilted her head, sensing something was amiss, and added, "I'll cook some noodles later, remember to come and eat."

After saying this, Qi Yanche turned around to look at her.

It was too dark around her, so Cheng Zhi couldn't see his face clearly, but she could sense that he wasn't in a very high mood.

Ivan led the main force away, and Cheng Zhi didn't linger, quickly following after them.

Back in her room, Cheng Zhi originally wanted to talk to Xiao Feiran about it, but everyone was talking about the house, and Cheng Zhi forgot about it after joining the discussion.

Looking at the photos of the house on her phone, Zheng Wan said, "It's too shabby. It leaks wind and rain, and it's completely uninhabitable."

Xiao Feiran slurped up a mouthful of noodles and replied, "Ivan said we can use big leaves or something to cover the roof, and fill the gaps with mud."

Huang Yiyi wasn't complaining, she just felt there could be something better to replace it.

She put down her chopsticks and said, "No need, we have plenty of dust covers in our dorm, we can just use those."

It sounds like it's better than leaves, but Chen Siyu is still worried, "It's very thin, won't it break very easily?"

Cheng Zhi said, "If all else fails, we can ask Xiao Zhi to buy some waterproof sheets. Those are really sturdy and not expensive."

Xiao Feiran thought for a moment, "Then let's use waterproof cloth and dust covers for the walls."

After they finished eating, everyone went home to rest.

Cheng Zhi glanced at the pot; it was already empty.

When Cheng's mother came out, she saw Zhizhi looking at the pot, so she asked, "Zhizhi, are you still hungry?"

Hearing her mother's voice, Cheng Zhi turned her head and said, "No, I'm full. It's just that the boys haven't eaten yet."

Cheng's mother patted her hand to reassure her, "Lu Yuan's mother just came over to borrow the kitchen to steam some rice, so they won't go hungry."

It turned out that the aunt had already prepared everything for them, so she didn't need to do anything else.

Cheng's mother patted her shoulder and said softly, "Go and rest, you've had a long day."

Cheng Zhi nodded and went back to her room.

Just as she entered, Xiao Feiran came out after showering. Leaning against the window, she said, "The boy is back too."

Cheng Zhi gave a nonchalant "oh" and went inside to take a shower.

Lying in the middle, Chen Siyu was dozing off. "It's hard to imagine that we'd be living in this place for two years, just a small wooden cabin. I really can't believe it..."

While drying her hair, Xiao Feiran said, "Although it's still very basic now, we'll take it slowly and make the cabin better and better."

These words didn't seem to comfort Chen Siyu. She sighed again, "We were supposed to graduate this year, and my little sister could have started first grade. Now everything is a mess."

Xiao Feiran walked over and patted her leg comfortingly through the blanket. "Who says my little sister can't learn here? Wan can teach her math and English, I can teach her Chinese, Cheng Zhi can teach her politics, history, and geography, and the boys can teach her physics, chemistry, and biology."

After listening, Chen Siyu smiled and said, "Teaching that is close to nature is a good idea."

Xiao Feiran looked out the window and said, "As for us... we already have a new main quest. Going from working to trying to survive feels even cooler."

Before Chen Siyu could say anything, Cheng Zhi stepped in, saying, "You know how to comfort people."

Xiao Feiran chuckled, "How was what I learned from you? Isn't it quite useful? Hahahaha."

The next day, Cheng Zhi got up at around 5 a.m. She went into her space first and bought oilcloth from Xiao Zhi.

When Xiao Zhi heard that they were going to build a house, he thoughtfully said, "Master, would you like to buy some stuffing while you're at it? Wooden houses probably have a lot of gaps, right?"

"That's not impossible," Cheng Zhi said, and immediately ordered two jin (1 kg). "If it's not enough, I'll buy more from you."

After buying all these things, Cheng Zhi put the corn in the steamer before washing up.

Once everything was ready, Cheng Zhi woke everyone up for breakfast.

As soon as Zhiyu got up, she came to find Chen Siyu, carrying her little yellow plastic shovel for digging in the sand. "Today, Zhiyu is going to help you guys too!"

Chen Siyu was still half asleep and didn't hear what Zhiyu said at all.

Seeing her sister like this, Zhiyu went to hug Cheng Zhi's leg and said, "Sister, can I go? Let me go, I promise I won't run around!"

The child must have heard the adults say that they were building a house and thought it looked fun, so he wanted to go along.

Cheng Zhi patted Zhi Yu's head. "Do your parents agree to let you come? I'll only agree if they agree."

Upon hearing this, Zhiyu immediately jumped up, "Mom said I can go with my sisters!"

"That's fine then," Cheng Zhi nodded. "Go have breakfast, and we'll set off after you've finished."
