Xiao Feiran did not respond to Cheng Ye's suggestion that day.
But after that day, Xiao Feiran stopped avoiding Cheng Ye, and the two seemed to have returned to the stage where they would share even the smallest things with each other.
After the wedding, Cheng Ye returned to school.
He often stared at his chat window with Xiao Feiran, lost in thought. He longed to know what their relationship was now, but he didn't dare to ask.
Two months passed like this, and finally summer vacation began.
Cheng Ye was eager to return home, so she took the bus back that very night. Just when she thought she would see Xiao Feiran, Qi Yanche got off the bus instead.
Cheng Ye was visibly disappointed. "Why is it you, Brother Yan?"
Qi Yanche pretended to be fierce and shook Cheng Ye's shoulder, "What Yan-ge? You should change your address!"
Cheng Ye ignored all of that. He sat in the passenger seat, scrolling through the messages he had posted in the group chat a couple of days ago. "Sister Feiran was supposed to pick me up, wasn't she?"
Thinking back to the chaos of last night, Qi Yanche realized that Cheng Ye was unaware of the situation at home.
He fastened his seatbelt and said, "Last night, your sister Feiran suddenly had a flare-up of gastroenteritis and is still in the hospital on an IV drip. Cheng Zhi went to be with her, so I came to pick you up."
Upon hearing that Xiao Feiran was unwell, Cheng Ye immediately became anxious.
Qi Yanche patted Cheng Ye's shoulder reassuringly, "Don't worry, Cheng Zhi said she's much better now, she's not in pain or vomiting anymore."
Cheng Ye held her phone, wanting to video call them, but was afraid of disturbing them.
After much deliberation, he sent a message to Cheng Zhi and said to Qi Yanche, "Brother-in-law, just take me to the hospital. I'll cover for my sister's shift."
Qi Yanche paused for two seconds, "Isn't that a bad idea? You probably didn't sleep well in the car last night either. Aren't you too tired?"
Cheng Ye shook her head indifferently, "Even if I didn't sleep well, I still slept. My sister must have been running around taking care of everything and didn't sleep at all. You can just bring it to me."
Under Cheng Ye's insistence, Qi Yanche agreed.
The two rushed to the hospital without stopping, and found the two sleeping in a corner of the place where they were getting IV drips.
Qi Yanche gently placed his hand on Cheng Zhi's shoulder, intending to tell her to get up and go back.
Unexpectedly, as soon as her hand touched him, Cheng Zhi suddenly raised her head and reflexively looked at Xiao Feiran and Zhen Shui. Only after seeing that neither of them was hurt did she turn back.
Seeing Cheng Ye and Qi Yanche, she was a little puzzled and asked in a low voice, "Why aren't you going home? What are you doing here?"
Qi Yanche looked at the dark circles under her eyes and felt a pang of heartache. He pointed to Cheng Ye beside him and said, "He said he wants to cover your shift. Do you think it's okay?"
Cheng Zhi hadn't slept all night and was somewhat dazed. She glanced at Cheng Ye, then looked back at Xiao Feiran, whose face was pale, and was still worried. "Are you sure you can handle this?"
Cheng Ye nodded, "I'm the class monitor. You have no idea how many classmates I've accompanied to the hospital this semester. I really can."
Cheng Zhi thought for two more seconds, and finally stood up, handed Cheng Ye all the medical records, payment slips and other documents, gave her a few more instructions, and then left.
She had already arrived at the door when she turned back and said, "Just call me if anything happens, okay? I've already taken leave and can come anytime."
After Cheng Zhi left, Cheng Ye carefully sat down on the chair next to her.
Even with the slightest movement, the rows of chairs in the hospital inevitably sway. Xiao Feiran opened her eyes with difficulty, only to find Cheng Ye right in front of her.
She was a little dazed and said softly, "Am I dreaming? Then why do I still feel so tired..."
Hearing her hoarse voice, Cheng Ye immediately held up the water glass in front of Xiao Feiran, "Have a couple of sips to soothe your throat."
After drinking the water, Cheng Ye noticed that the IV fluid was almost finished, so she quickly called the nurse over. After that, she hurriedly went to the door and bought a bowl of millet porridge.
After doing all these things, Xiao Feiran realized that she wasn't dreaming.
She struggled to straighten herself up, as if she had something to say to Cheng Ye.
Seeing how much effort she was putting in, Cheng Ye quickly helped her up.
To my surprise, after all that effort, she said, "I'm so sorry, I promised to pick you up, but something went wrong. How did you get back?"
Cheng Ye felt like she was about to laugh in exasperation. "Sis, I'm a grown woman, how could I not find my way home? Don't worry, Brother Yan came to pick me up."
Hearing this, Xiao Feiran finally felt relieved. She wanted to ask more questions, but Cheng Ye stopped her.
Cheng Ye gave Xiao Feiran her U-shaped pillow and coat, saying, "This porridge is still too hot. You should sleep for a while, and I'll wake you up to eat it later, and then you can take your medicine."
Pressed down by the weight of his coat, Xiao Feiran was overcome with sleepiness and blinked twice before closing his eyes completely.
While waiting, Cheng Ye flipped through Xiao Feiran's medical records.
After sleeping for more than forty minutes, Cheng Ye woke Xiao Feiran up, took out the warm porridge she had prepared, and fed it to Xiao Feiran spoonful by spoonful.
Xiao Feiran didn't eat much because her stomach was still upset.
Cheng Ye understood that feeling, and after putting the bowl away, she wanted Xiao Feiran to continue sleeping.
But Xiao Feiran stared at him with her eyes open, showing no intention of sleeping at all.
Cheng Ye noticed the gaze and turned to look at Xiao Feiran, thinking she was feeling unwell. "What's wrong? Where do you feel uncomfortable? Do you want to throw up or go to the bathroom?"
Xiao Feiran smiled and shook her head, "I'm fine now, it's just that I haven't seen you in a long time, and you seem to have lost weight. Have you been eating properly?"
