Chapter 49 Who's the good guy who escaped with a board game carpet?

Outside, a fierce wind was blowing, as strong as during a typhoon. The temperature had dropped below zero. Cheng Zhi and her friends risked their lives to go outside and tried it; a cup of hot water poured out would instantly freeze.

No one could get out at all. Not for any other reason than that this was in the south, and no one had any warm clothes. They could only stay at home wrapped in blankets, unable to move an inch.

Although it wasn't as cold as outside where Cheng Zhi and the others were, they weren't much better off.

Their house was too big, and the heating equipment wasn't very effective. They basically had to use electric blankets, blow warm air, and hold a thermos to barely maintain the temperature.

The girls were all wearing long down jackets they had picked up in the mall, with hats on and only their faces showing.

Chen Yiyi sat opposite them, genuinely curious, "Why are all your down jackets the same? Are they dorm uniforms?"

Everyone paused for a moment, then turned to look at Cheng Zhi. Cheng Zhi's mind raced. "Ah... more or less. We bought them together when our dorm went on a trip to Northeast China."

Chen Yiyi said "Oh," and everyone fell silent again. It was really boring to just sit there in a daze.

Cheng Zhi is someone who is most afraid of awkward situations, and now, in this face-to-face, blank stare, she really wants to find a crack to crawl into.

"Hmm, we're just killing time anyway. We have a board game in our dorm, wanna play?" Cheng Zhi sat up and asked everyone cautiously.

As soon as he finished speaking, instead of the expected unanimous agreement, the boys were stunned.

"Your—dormitory—is—a—flying chess game?!" Lu Yuan's pupils dilated in shock.

Shen Lingfeng, who had been half-dead, sat up straight. "You guys took the Ludo when you came out?!"

Chen Yi was the quickest to learn, "They have Ludo, but do they have playing cards?"

Xiao Feiran smiled and said, "You've come to the right place. We basically have poker, UNO, German Heart Disease, and so on."

"..." Qi Yanche was truly amazed. She brought a bunch of board games with her when she fled from disaster. Girls' thought processes are really amazing.

Cheng Zhi saw the utter incomprehension on Qi Yanche's face, so she explained, "It's really boring without internet, so we brought some small games to pass the time. That's normal, and besides, those things aren't big and are easy to carry."

That makes sense. Qi Yanche felt the same way. It was indeed boring without electricity or internet, but playing some games wouldn't hurt.

When the 1.8-meter-tall board game carpet was laid out, the boys were shocked again.

"..." Looking at the dice that was almost the size of his fist, Qi Yanche's face darkened. "A mini-game?"

Xiao Feiran chuckled awkwardly twice, patting the Ludo carpet. "This carpet... we thought that if we were ever going to have to sleep in the open, at least we wouldn't have to sleep on the street, right? Hahaha..."

Zheng Wan had given up trying to explain and was even about to throw the dice away. "Are we still playing? Starting with me, is the order counter-clockwise or clockwise?"

"Clockwise!"

"Does anyone else play UNO?"

"Play!"

That's the good thing about being a college student; you just need something to do, and you don't need to delve into other issues.

After several rounds, Cheng Zhi had two planes nearing the finish line. In contrast, Qi Yanche was in a much worse situation; he couldn't get a six no matter what he tried, and none of his planes took off.

Shen Lingfeng, huddled in the blanket beside him, mocked mercilessly, "Let me see who it is, who hasn't taken off yet? It's you, hahahahahaha—"

Qi Yanche wanted to smash the dice in his hand into Shen Lingfeng's face, but he didn't. He held back and turned his head with a smile, "You'd better have one eye on guard and the other on watch while you sleep tonight."

Shen Lingfeng: "..." This kid is so easily teased; he threatens others like this just because it's a joke.

Perhaps it was a stroke of good luck, for Qi Yanche finally rolled a six this time.

Shen Lingfeng quickly tried to flatter Qi Yanche, but before he could even speak, Qi Yanche turned his head and stared at him intently.

That look made Shen Lingfeng's heart tremble. Finally, Qi Yanche spoke up, "Thank you, brother. I just made a wish that if I could roll a six, I would be willing to exchange ten years of my best brother Shen Lingfeng's lifespan. It seems that God has agreed."

Shen Lingfeng: "!!!" You made a wish that shortened my lifespan?! How vicious!

Qi Yanche made good progress after that. Although he didn't get first place, he got what he wanted.

Looking at all his planes that had been shot back, Shen Lingfeng was on the verge of tears. Qi Yanche hadn't thought about winning at all after taking off; he was only focused on chasing and attacking him. Now, the game was almost over, and he was back to square one.

After playing games and having dinner, the girls went back to the second floor to rest.

Although it was supposed to be a rest day, the girls were actually quite busy. They spent most of their daytime with the boys and had no chance to go into the space to tend to the vegetable garden or feed the animals.

Now they can only water the plants and feed the chickens here in the middle of the night.

Actually, there isn't much growing in the vegetable garden now, because they can't eat all the corn and potatoes they planted before. Now, apart from vegetables, they've used the rest of the land to grow fruit.

Cheng Zhi planted an orange tree next to the chicken coop. It takes three years to grow, and even if the airflow in the space is faster, it will still take three months to bear fruit. Right now, it's just a sapling.

Xiao Feiran planted watermelons, Huang Yiyi planted grapes, Chen Siyu planted banana trees, and Zheng Wan didn't plant much; she mainly served as a technical advisor and assisted them with planting.

During the day, they drank hot milk and ate bread, not much. Now, after working for a while, all five of them were hungry, their stomachs rumbling.

They looked at Zheng Wan expectantly, hoping that their Wan-jie (older sister Wan) could cook a late-night snack.

"..." How could Zheng Wan bear to refuse those longing eyes?

Looking at the cucumbers and carrots in the refrigerator, as well as the spicy meat sauce she had made before, Zheng Wan quickly made a big pot of Zhajiangmian (noodles with soybean paste).

The noodles were smooth and chewy, covered with a slightly spicy meat sauce, and served with refreshing cucumber strips on the side. The warm feeling inside instantly relieved their fatigue.

"This is much better than the noodles with soybean paste on the second floor of the cafeteria!" Xiao Feiran finished one bowl and went to get another, praising it endlessly.

Cheng Zhi wasn't that hungry at first, but she couldn't resist the aroma of the noodles, so she quickly devoured two bowls.

Zheng Wan wasn't very hungry. She only ate one bowl before putting down her chopsticks. She sat for a while to digest before washing up. "Remember to wash the pots and pans, okay? I'm going to take a shower now. I've been freezing all day, I need to take a good bath to warm up."

Cheng Zhi nodded as she slurped her noodles.

Chen Siyu raised her head, noodles still in her mouth, and said indistinctly, "Don't worry about us, you can go with peace of mind."

Zheng Wan: "..." The way she said that made it sound like she was being sent away.
