Chapter 78 Getting Rained

It had been gloomy outside all day, with thick, low-hanging clouds that made it hard to breathe. I thought it wouldn't rain all day, but then, around dusk, accompanied by a flash of lightning and a deafening clap of thunder, the rain suddenly started.

Huang's father, who had been playing Go with Cheng Zhi at the coffee table, looked up and exclaimed, "Oh dear, what kind of weather is this? What month is it and it's raining already? The crops must be flooded!"

Huang's mother, who was sitting on the side knitting a sweater out of boredom, rolled her eyes when she heard Huang's father's remarks. "Don't you even listen to what you're saying? The crops have been dead for a long time. Oh dear, it's been raining and it's been unbearably hot, and now it's freezing cold. They've been dead for ages."

Looking at the raindrops falling outside, Cheng Zhi felt much more at ease. It was good that it was raining; at least it meant that, so far, the script for this life was not much different from that of the previous life.

Moreover, acid rain won't harm them as long as they stay indoors.

Just as she finished thinking that, Huang Ma suddenly stood up from the sofa, "Oh no, oh no, I think I left a jar of kimchi outside, and the lid isn't on yet."

Huang Ma was extremely anxious. She put down what she was holding and was about to grab an umbrella to cover the kimchi.

The elders are, after all, over forty years old and nearly fifty. Their health is certainly not as good as that of these young people. Besides, there's no reason to let the elders go out. Cheng Zhi took the umbrella from Huang Ma's hand and said that she could go out and use it.

Huang Ma didn't stand on ceremony with Cheng Zhi about such a small matter as putting the umbrella on, and simply told her the exact location before handing her the umbrella.

Zip up the zipper, put on the hat, and Cheng Zhi walked into the heavy rain with an umbrella in hand.

The flashlight that Huang Ma gave Cheng Zhi seemed to be running low on power, and with the heavy rain, it looked like some of the light had been washed away. Using this faint light, Cheng Zhi found the kimchi jar next to the garage. Sure enough, the lid was off, and Cheng Zhi guessed that a lot of rainwater had gotten inside.

She felt that the kimchi was definitely inedible, but she couldn't tell her uncle and aunt directly right away, so she put the lid on and moved the whole jar slightly inward to prevent it from being corroded by acid rain.

Cheng Zhi felt heartbroken seeing such a large vat of kimchi going to waste, but there was nothing she could do; she would have to get Huang Yiyi to throw it away before she left.

The rain was heavy, and with the kimchi jar being moved, Cheng Zhi inevitably came into contact with rainwater.

When she returned, everyone happened to be in the living room. Seeing Cheng Zhi's wet hair and hands, Huang Yiyi's expression immediately changed. "It's raining! What were you doing out there?!"

Xiao Feiran quickly came over and, as if by magic, produced alcohol wipes and began wiping Cheng Zhi.

Their reaction was really strong, which startled Mr. and Mrs. Huang.

Huang's mother subtly tugged at Huang Yiyi's hem, "Why are you being so fierce? Zhizhi was just trying to help me put the lid on the kimchi jar."

When Huang Yiyi heard that she was going to do this kind of thing, she felt really guilty. Cheng Zhi must have known that the jar of kimchi was inedible after being rained on. The reason she went to help put the lid on was just to prevent the elders from getting wet in the rain.

Seeing the slightly tense atmosphere between the mother and daughter, Cheng Zhi smiled and waved her hand, "Oh, it's just putting the lid on, it's not a big deal. I promise I won't compete with you next time, I'll give you all the chance to show your skills."

To avoid worrying her parents, Huang Yiyi continued along with Cheng Zhi's words. Huang's parents' expressions softened slightly, realizing they were just joking.

Before going to sleep, Huang Yiyi went into her spatial dimension and took out a bunch of medicines and vitamins, placing them one by one on her and Cheng Zhi's bed.

Cheng Zhi heard the sound of the pills and looked up to see all sorts of medicines neatly arranged in front of her. She didn't dare to move too much, afraid of knocking them over.

She looked at Huang Yiyi with great confusion, "What are you doing? Are you giving military training with medicine bottles here in the middle of the night?"

"..." Huang Yiyi was extremely anxious, but Cheng Zhi was still in the mood to joke, "Stop messing around, okay? I heard you guys say that the rainwater is poisonous. Your hands and face got it on you, so you should take some medicine to prevent it."

Cheng Zhi picked up the bottles of medicine in front of her one by one and looked at them. They were mostly anti-allergy medicines, immune-boosting medicines, and ointments.

She knew Huang Yiyi meant well, but she genuinely didn't know what medicine to take for prevention. So Cheng Zhi randomly picked a bottle of vitamins and swallowed it with water.

Clearly, this did not put Huang Yiyi at ease; her eyes were still filled with tension. "Is it just a vitamin? Aren't you going to take anything else?"

Seeing how nervous Huang Yiyi was, Cheng Zhi comforted her, "Oh, it's not that serious. In our past lives, we were both soaked to the bone by the rain, but we still made it through. This is nothing, just a small problem."

After saying that, he held up his hand for Huang Yiyi to see, proving that there was no rash on it.

Seeing Cheng Zhi's still fair and delicate hands, Huang Yiyi finally felt a little relieved.

"Alright, alright, don't worry. Let's tidy up these things and go to sleep!" Cheng Zhi said as she put the medicine bottle on the bed onto the table next to her.

Huang Yiyi also withdrew her gaze and began to tidy up the bed.

As the two were tidying up, Chen Siyu suddenly burst into their room, shouting, "Holy crap, something terrible has happened! Our space has been burgled, and half a drawer of medicine is gone!"

Huang Yiyi, the thief who was sorting through the stolen goods: "..." This girl doesn't think things through at all. How could a thief get into a place like that? It must have been one of our own people who took it!

As soon as Chen Siyu finished speaking, she saw the bed covered in medicine and Huang Yiyi's face, which was as black as the bottom of a pot. In an instant, she understood the whole story. Just as she was about to apologize, Huang Yiyi pointed to the door and said, "Please leave this room gracefully."

"Alright! I'll get out of here now, goodnight!" Knowing she was in the wrong, Chen Siyu quickly and decisively left, and she didn't want to fight Huang Yiyi again in the middle of the night.

After turning off the lights, they lay down and chatted for a while.

Gradually, Huang Yiyi's eyelids grew heavy, blinking repeatedly until they finally closed. In the last second before losing consciousness, she was still telling Cheng Zhi, "If you feel unwell in the middle of the night, remember to call us."

Cheng Zhi smiled and said okay, then pulled Huang Yiyi's blanket up a little more, tucking the blanket around her neck tightly, and then she turned over, put on her eye mask, and went to sleep.
