As they left, they added, "Her Majesty the Empress Dowager has just returned to the palace and, due to the long journey, has unfortunately fallen ill. She needs to rest and is not permitted to have any visitors."
This is a form of house arrest...
As the Empress Dowager watched Yu Jingchen's departing figure, her initial excitement and determination gradually gave way to her usual calm, as if nothing had happened.
"Your Majesty, are you alright?" An Xin immediately came up and asked with concern.
"I'm fine," the Empress Dowager said calmly.
“Nan Jieyu…” An Xin had watched Nan Zhiyun grow up, so it was impossible for her not to worry at all.
"Don't worry, let nature take its course." The Empress Dowager's gaze gradually became distant.
"So, are we just going to do nothing now?" An Xin asked.
"That's enough, it'll be soon..." The Empress Dowager said meaningfully.
"Yes," An Xin replied, not daring to say anything more. She figured the Empress Dowager must have had her own plans for everything. She wasn't sure if it was just her imagination, but An Xin felt there were subtle changes in the Empress Dowager.
He'an Hall
Nan Zhiyun was taken back to He'an Palace by Yu Jingchen's men, but they did not use any force against her.
Nan Zhiyun felt a vague unease in her heart, and she was also worried that Yu Jingchen might do something to the Empress Dowager.
Soon, Yu Jingchen arrived at He'an Palace. Upon hearing the announcement from outside, Nan Zhiyun immediately knelt on the ground.
When Yu Jingchen entered, he saw this scene, and the anger that had not been completely quelled along the way surged up at this moment.
"You really like kneeling, don't you? I've told you so many times, don't you understand?" Yu Jingchen's tone was somewhat harsh.
Nan Zhiyun lowered her head silently, not daring to utter a sound.
Yu Jingchen was probably also furious, so he went forward and roughly grabbed Nan Zhiyun's arm, pulling him up from the ground.
Nan Zhiyun was quite frightened.
"Your Majesty," Nan Zhiyun called out in a trembling voice.
"You know what fear is? If you're scared, why can't you understand what I'm saying?" Yu Jingchen and Nan Zhiyun had been standing very close together.
"Your Majesty, the Empress Dowager does not intend to oppose you. Please do not be angry with her," Nan Zhiyun said, suppressing her fear.
"Empress Dowager? All you know is to plead for the Empress Dowager. Shouldn't you think about your own current situation?" Yu Jingchen questioned.
Nan Zhiyun was quite moved by the statement, "This concubine is willing to be punished."
But this one sentence only enraged Yu Jingchen further. "Nan Zhiyun!" Yu Jingchen roared. Then he flung her arm aside, and Nan Zhiyun crashed into a table.
There was a teapot and teacups on the table. Yu Jingchen's force was not light, so when Nan Zhiyun bumped into him, she knocked over a set of tea utensils on the table.
Yu Jingchen's pupils contracted slightly. If he had fallen onto that pile of shards, no matter where he was injured, it would have given Nan Zhiyun a good amount of time to recover.
So just as Nan Zhiyun was about to fall, Yu Jingchen swiftly grabbed her and pulled her back. Nan Zhiyun crashed hard into Yu Jingchen's arms, but he quickly pushed her away. Nan Zhiyun managed to steady herself by holding onto the table. She had just hit the table, so… Nan Zhiyun clutched her lower back; it really hurt.
But now she had no right to complain of pain, nor dared to cry out. Nan Zhiyun endured the discomfort, not daring to speak. When Yu Jingchen was in such a rage, saying even one more word would be digging her own grave.
