That night, the Empress Dowager stayed by Nan Zhiyun's bedside all night, while Yu Jingchen stayed outside all night. Today was a day off, so Yu Jingchen didn't need to attend court.
"Your Majesty, why don't you go and rest for a while? There are palace servants and imperial physicians here," Xinglai advised.
"No need. How's the situation inside?" Yu Jingchen asked.
"The imperial physician said the condition has improved, but he still hasn't woken up." Xinglai poured Yu Jingchen another cup of hot tea.
After thinking for a moment, Yu Jingchen stood up and went into the inner room. The Empress Dowager had not left yet, and An Xin was trying to persuade her.
“Your Majesty, you must take care of your health. If Consort Jieyu were to wake up, she wouldn’t want to see you like this,” An Xin said.
"I won't leave, I won't leave. I'll stay here with Yun'er until she wakes up." The Empress Dowager was somewhat stubborn.
"Your Majesty, the Imperial Concubine is currently imprisoned in Cining Palace. Don't you want to ask her why she did this? Consort Nan is in such a state, don't you want to personally avenge her?" An Xin was truly at her wit's end.
Sure enough, the Empress Dowager's anger flared up as soon as she heard this: "What kind of imperial concubine is she? Emperor, you must depose her!" The Empress Dowager became agitated.
"Your Majesty, please go back first," Yu Jingchen did not immediately agree.
"Aren't you reluctant to part with him?" The Empress Dowager stood up and walked to Yu Jingchen.
"The Imperial Concubine is morally corrupt and has a heart of stone. Her rank is hereby revoked, and she is demoted to a palace maid, to be dealt with at the Empress Dowager's discretion." Yu Jingchen said casually.
"Is the Empress Dowager satisfied?" Yu Jingchen asked.
"These are things that should be done in the first place." The Empress Dowager now looked at Yu Jingchen as if she had seen an enemy.
Fortunately, after getting the result she wanted, she didn't stubbornly insist on staying there any longer.
After the Empress Dowager left, Yu Jingchen glanced at Nan Zhiyun, who was still unconscious, and asked the imperial physician, "When will she wake up?"
"Your Majesty, Consort Nan's pulse has stabilized; she should be recovering soon," the imperial physician replied.
"What about her injuries? Are they serious?" Yu Jingchen hadn't forgotten Nan Zhiyun's injuries.
"Most of them are external injuries, they just look a bit scary. With proper care, they'll be fine," the imperial physician replied.
"Does it hurt a lot?" Yu Jingchen suddenly asked.
"Ah...ah?" The imperial physician was momentarily stunned into silence.
“She’s afraid of pain, so let’s prepare some painkillers in advance,” Yu Jingchen said, then sat down next to Nan Zhiyun.
"Yes..." The imperial physician was still somewhat bewildered.
Yu Jingchen stared blankly at Nan Zhiyun, whose face was deathly pale. He suddenly realized how incredibly fragile this woman before him truly was…
"How can you get hurt so easily?" Yu Jingchen gently stroked Nan Zhiyun's face. He was shocked to see her like this; her face was far too pale.
"She has a high fever?" Yu Jingchen realized.
"Your Majesty, it's because of Consort Nan's injuries. Also, the weather has been cold recently, and Consort Nan's constitution is already weak. She must have caught a chill while she was imprisoned," the imperial physician said.
Yu Jingchen frowned, recalling the last time Nan Zhiyun had a high fever. He hoped it wouldn't be the same this time. If it were like last time, with a high fever that wouldn't subside, he worried that Nan Zhiyun wouldn't make it.
