He looked at Nan Zhiyun: "What's wrong?"
Nan Zhiyun remained silent.
"Why are you not saying anything again?" Yu Jingchen reached out and tucked a stray strand of hair behind Nan Zhiyun's ear.
"No," Nan Zhiyun said, her voice still trembling with tears.
"What do you mean you don't want?" Yu Jingchen asked, "We can't go back to square one, can we?"
"Don't rest, don't fall asleep," Nan Zhiyun said, and her emotions, which had just calmed down, seemed to start to get scared again.
Yu Jingchen frowned: "Why?" he asked. To ease Nan Zhiyun's fear, he took the initiative to move closer and even put his hand behind Nan Zhiyun's back.
“I’ll get beaten up…” Nan Zhiyun’s body trembled slightly.
Yu Jingchen's expression was solemn. He felt that many uncontrollable things had happened during the time Nan Zhiyun had disappeared, so what exactly did the Wen family do to her? It couldn't possibly be as simple as it seemed.
“You won’t get beaten, you can rest, don’t be afraid.” Yu Jingchen didn’t dare to ask Nan Zhiyun directly, for fear of arousing her deeper fear.
However, it was clear that Yu Jingchen's words had no effect whatsoever. Nan Zhiyun was still afraid.
"You can't sleep... you'll get splashed with water, you'll get beaten, you'll be punished," Nan Zhiyun kept repeating, as if she had been brainwashed by these words.
Yu Jingchen's brows furrowed deeper; something was wrong with Nan Zhiyun.
"It's alright, I'm here. If I say it's okay, then it's okay. No one will punish you." Yu Jingchen pulled her into his arms, his movements gentle, making sure not to hurt her injuries.
"Yes...you will be punished...you really will," Nan Zhiyun seemed to have forgotten that the person in front of her was Yu Jingchen. She grabbed Yu Jingchen's sleeve with her small hand, looked up at him with a face full of fear.
Yu Jingchen took Nan Zhiyun's hand and then pulled her into his arms: "Don't be afraid, it won't happen, no punishment, no punishment." Yu Jingchen's tone was gentle.
"It hurts, it hurts so much..." Nan Zhiyun pouted and cried like a little girl who had been wronged.
"It won't hurt anymore, it won't hurt anymore, be good, it's okay." Yu Jingchen placed his hand on the back of Nan Zhiyun's head and gently rubbed it, just like he was coaxing a little girl. It turned out that this little girl who had always endured pain could also cry out in pain.
“They hit me, and it hurts so much, but they just won’t stop. When I cried out, they hit me even harder…” Nan Zhiyun also hugged Yu Jingchen’s waist.
“No one helps me, no one is willing to save me,” Nan Zhiyun continued.
"It's all over now, it's all in the past, it's okay, don't think about it anymore, okay? Don't think about it anymore." Yu Jingchen felt a pang of sadness in his heart for no reason as he listened.
Nan Zhiyun didn't say anything more, but she kept crying, and it seemed like she couldn't stop. Yu Jingchen didn't stop her; instead, he let her cry.
"It's okay, you'll feel better after you've cried. Don't think about it anymore, just forget about it..." Yu Jingchen comforted her softly.
Although he was saying this to Nan Zhiyun, in places where Nan Zhiyun couldn't see, Yu Jingchen's eyes seemed to be containing a storm.
The past? Of course, it wouldn't be so easily forgotten. He hadn't allowed anyone to treat Nan Zhiyun like that; there would be a price to pay for it. But before that, he needed to know what Nan Zhiyun had gone through.
