Yu Jingchen looked at her without saying anything.
"Your Majesty, why did you fall in love with someone you least expected to like?" Lady Wen asked, as if she were simply curious.
"Use torture," Yu Jingchen said, too lazy to argue with her.
The imperial concubine did not panic upon hearing this; she simply smiled.
Fortunately, the torture of finger-crushing was administered. Palace attendants brought out the clamps and placed them directly over Wen's hands, then pulled her up forcefully. The originally calm expression on Wen's face turned ferocious with pain.
Yu Jingchen looked at her, his eyes showing no emotion whatsoever.
"If you don't talk now, all ten of your fingers will be snapped off like this today," Yu Jingchen said coldly.
"Nan Zhiyun deserves to die!" Wen said through gritted teeth, still trying to hold on.
Yu Jingchen casually waved his hand, and the eunuchs holding the clamps on both sides were replaced by two guards. They showed no mercy whatsoever, and Wen Shi finally couldn't help but cry out.
"You have one last chance. If you don't speak up now, I won't hesitate to turn all ten of your fingers into a pile of rotten flesh." Yu Jingchen didn't even blink.
“Yu Jingchen…you are truly pathetic. Even though you hold a high position and are the ruler of a country, no one is truly sincere towards you. Even if there are, you have personally destroyed them all. Yu Jingchen, the person I hate most in this life is you. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have entered the palace, and I wouldn’t be in this situation now. He would be fine!” Madam Wen’s emotions suddenly surged.
Yu Jingchen did not understand what she meant.
"Yu Jingchen, you don't deserve to like someone, and you don't deserve to be liked by someone!" Wen roared.
"You hate me, what does that have to do with Nan Zhiyun?" Yu Jingchen asked.
“If it weren’t for her, my child would be gone,” Wen said.
Yu Jingchen frowned: "Your child died in the Eastern Palace, so how could it be because of her?" (Child's Guide, Chapter 96)
“I don’t believe His Majesty doesn’t know how this child died,” said Lady Wen.
Yu Jingchen remained silent, because the Empress Dowager did not allow this child to remain.
"Just because Nan Zhiyun was unhappy after she found out I was pregnant with your child, the Empress Dowager secretly aborted my child behind my back. Why can't I hate her?" Wen asked.
"But she never said you couldn't have children, nor did she ever harm you. Isn't she innocent?" Yu Jingchen asked.
"Haha, Your Majesty, how could you say such a thing? Does her innocence mean she's innocent? Just like Your Majesty, what heinous things did Nan Zhiyun do before? She was only treated that way because of her background. Did Your Majesty think she was innocent at that time?" Wen felt as if she had heard the biggest joke in the world.
"Your Majesty, haven't you noticed how special your feelings for Nan Zhiyun are now?" Wen asked her.
“But Your Majesty, have you ever thought about whether you can really be so calm now? Have you forgotten how you treated her before?” Every word Wen said struck Yu Jingchen’s heart.
"This has nothing to do with you," Yu Jingchen said, neither denying nor admitting it.
(Note: Friends, this is a palace intrigue novel. Although I'm not good at writing these kinds of convoluted plots, we still need to include the essential elements.)
So I'm just giving everyone a heads-up, and you can think about it yourselves to see if it really makes sense. Aren't there any doubts or oddities about it?
For example, would the Empress Dowager really abort the child just because Nan Zhiyun is unhappy?
For example, how did a lowly imperial concubine manage to build a secret room in the palace without anyone noticing?
For example, who is the "he" the Imperial Concubine mentioned? Did she say earlier that she didn't want to enter the palace? Was she originally unwilling, or did she become unwilling after entering the palace? And why?
Furthermore, why does she hate Yu Jingchen so much? And why didn't Yu Jingchen discover her feelings until her death in her past life?
Use your brain!
There's more to the story later in this novel, so don't jump to conclusions about anything that happened earlier. Haha, feel free to make any wild guesses! (Hehe)
