When Nan Zhiyun saw Yu Jingchen approaching, she nervously shrank back inside. Yu Jingchen felt a pang of pain in his heart, but he didn't stop walking.
"Shall I have the palace servants help you get up?" Yu Jingchen asked for her opinion.
Nan Zhiyun didn't dare look at him and shook her head. Yu Jingchen wasn't angry and simply changed the subject.
"The imperial physicians said your injuries have almost healed, but you are still a bit weak, so you need to continue taking medicine to recuperate. They have just finished brewing the medicine. Shall I let them in?" Yu Jingchen asked her.
To everyone's surprise, Nan Zhiyun shook her head.
Yu Jingchen fell silent for a moment. Perhaps because the atmosphere was too oppressive, Nan Zhiyun's fear grew stronger.
"Afraid?" Yu Jingchen's voice was much gentler than usual.
Nan Zhiyun didn't say anything, she just wanted to hide herself away, and had already shrunk into a corner.
"Don't be afraid, it's alright, I won't do anything. Come here, okay?" Yu Jingchen stretched out his hand, but Nan Zhiyun didn't even look at it.
"Listen to me, come here first, okay?" Yu Jingchen tried his best to make his voice sound less harsh.
But Nan Zhiyun just kept shaking her head. Yu Jingchen felt a tearing pain in his heart because of Nan Zhiyun's appearance. It seemed that ever since he admitted last night that his feelings for Nan Zhiyun were different, the heartache had become even more pronounced.
Long-suppressed emotions were released; no longer concealed, they began to erupt.
"Nan Zhiyun, don't be afraid of me..." Yu Jingchen's tone was tinged with helplessness.
But this had no effect on Nan Zhiyun. Whenever Nan Zhiyun saw Yu Jingchen, she would think of the scenes she had witnessed and the words that kept echoing in her ears, all of which spoke of his cold-bloodedness and cruelty.
"Your Majesty, Your Majesty, I wish to be here alone..." Nan Zhiyun said, not daring to look at Yu Jingchen.
Yu Jingchen's outstretched hand froze for a moment, then slowly withdrew. But leaving... that was unlikely. After all, he had done this once; what about next time?
"Nan Zhiyun, I will stay here with you for the next few days," Yu Jingchen said directly. Nan Zhiyun was stunned... It was like a bombshell had been dropped on her, leaving her completely dumbfounded...
The next moment... Nan Zhiyun's lips trembled, and she burst into tears... looking utterly aggrieved.
Yu Jingchen: "..." Has the Empress Dowager been taking care of him for a few days? He's becoming more and more like a child.
"This concubine wishes to see Her Majesty the Empress Dowager..." Nan Zhiyun truly sounded just like someone who had been wronged and wanted to find their mother, leaving Yu Jingchen speechless for a moment.
"Are you that afraid of me? Are you so inseparable from your Empress Dowager?" Yu Jingchen asked, as if to say, "Why... it's like you're coaxing a child?"
“But so what? Your Empress Dowager has already left the palace.” Yu Jingchen sat down beside him.
She left the palace? Nan Zhiyun's mind went blank. Impossible. This was Nan Zhiyun's subconscious reaction. She couldn't believe that the Empress Dowager would leave the palace like this, without even telling her.
"No..." Nan Zhiyun retorted softly.
"Why not? Didn't you notice you slept for so long today? It's because your dear Empress Dowager drugged you and then secretly left the palace," Yu Jingchen continued.
Xinglai: "..."
I was delayed by something, but I'll make it up to you today. Thank you!
