Chapter 158 Unwilling

This means they think they're in the way.

"I'll wait for you outside," Yu Jingchen said, then stood up from next to Nan Zhiyun.

After Yu Jingchen left, Nan Zhiyun stood up with Qianxia's help.

"Where is the Empress Dowager?" Nan Zhiyun asked, still not believing it.

"Jieyu, the Empress Dowager left the palace last night. It was at the Empress Dowager's own suggestion, and she asked His Majesty to look after you." Qianxia told the truth without embellishing anything.

"Why? Where did they go?" Nan Zhiyun couldn't understand.

"This servant doesn't know either. The Empress Dowager didn't say much, but she told me to rest assured that everything would be alright and that she would be back in a few days," Qianxia said.

Nan Zhiyun looked troubled; she felt something was wrong... but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.

When Nan Zhiyun finished getting ready and went out, Yu Jingchen had already been waiting for a while.

"All done? Please sit down," Yu Jingchen said after seeing her come out. The meal was already laid out. Nan Zhiyun hesitated for a moment before choosing a spot furthest from Yu Jingchen.

"Come here," Yu Jingchen couldn't help but call out when he saw her walking so far away.

Nan Zhiyun paused, not daring to come closer. Yu Jingchen simply got up and walked to Nan Zhiyun himself, causing her to take two steps back.

Yu Jingchen hesitated for a moment, his outstretched hand pausing awkwardly. He looked at Nan Zhiyun: "Afraid?"

Nan Zhiyun remained silent.

Yu Jingchen felt a pang of sadness, but he managed to hide it well.

"If you don't want to, then I won't touch you, but don't sit so far away," Yu Jingchen said.

"I am of lowly status, so I will stay here." Nan Zhiyun rarely refused Yu Jingchen, especially not in this manner and with this attitude.

Yu Jingchen silently looked at Nan Zhiyun, feeling utterly powerless as he listened to her words. But he had no way to change her mind, nor could he force her.

"Then let's sit here," Yu Jingchen conceded.

And then... well, he sat down here.

Nan Zhiyun: "..."

Xinglai: "..."

"Let's move those seats over here too. Your Consort likes to sit here," Yu Jingchen said to the palace maid beside him.

Nan Zhiyun: "..."

"You wouldn't want to sit over there again now, would you?" Yu Jingchen said to Nan Zhiyun.

Nan Zhiyun: "..." I've said all the right and wrong things to you, what else can people say?

"Yes," Nan Zhiyun replied obediently, and then sat down next to him. However, because Yu Jingchen was relatively close to her, her body was a little stiff.

Yu Jingchen picked up his chopsticks and began serving food to Nan Zhiyun. Then he poured her a bowl of porridge.

"The people in the imperial kitchen said that all of this was arranged by the Empress Dowager. She said that your stomach is not good, so you need to take good care of it, and that's why they made it for you every day," Yu Jingchen said.

Upon hearing that it was the Empress Dowager's order, Nan Zhiyun obediently picked up the bowl of porridge in front of her and began to sip it slowly.

Seeing that Nan Zhiyun had eaten, Yu Jingchen breathed a sigh of relief. He had instructed the imperial kitchen to prepare all of this that morning, but he didn't know Nan Zhiyun's usual preferences, so he hadn't mentioned it for fear that she wouldn't like it.

However, Yu Jingchen remembered that Nan Zhiyun had a weak stomach, after all, he had heard the palace maid who served her mention it last time, so he asked someone to prepare this stomach-soothing porridge.
