Chapter 185 No way

Yu Jingchen found it somewhat amusing, but this was exactly the kind of Nan Zhiyun he wanted to see.

"So they're all quacks? Or should I deal with them?" Yu Jingchen was just joking.

“Your Majesty…” Nan Zhiyun looked at Yu Jingchen with a somewhat blank expression.

"Can't tell the truth from a lie? Just kidding. You haven't taken your medicine yet. Drink it now, and forget about the ones you threw away earlier." Yu Jingchen glanced at the palace servant beside him.

A palace maid brought over a bowl of medicine shortly afterward, and Nan Zhiyun felt a headache just looking at it.

Yu Jingchen pretended not to see it and took the medicine.

"Hello?" Yu Jingchen asked.

"I'll do it myself." She'd gotten quite experienced at drinking medicine; taking it spoonful by spoonful was torture, wasn't it? It was better to just drink it all at once.

Yu Jingchen raised an eyebrow and handed the bowl to Nan Zhiyun. Nan Zhiyun reluctantly took the bowl, hesitated for a while, and then pinched her nose to drink the medicine.

After Nan Zhiyun finished drinking her medicine, Yu Jingchen, as always, handed her a candied fruit, which Nan Zhiyun glanced at and then ate.

"Thank you, Your Majesty," Nan Zhiyun added.

"Why are you talking about these things with me?" Yu Jingchen asked with a smile.

"What are we going to do after we leave the palace tomorrow? Are we going back to the General's Mansion? When are we going back?" Yu Jingchen now considers what Nan Zhiyun likes and what she is interested in when they chat.

"Your Majesty... could I save it?" Nan Zhiyun suddenly had a whimsical idea.

"Saving them up?" Yu Jingchen didn't understand.

"Well... I want to have the New Year's Eve reunion with Father, is that alright? So, can I go back to the General's Mansion on New Year's Eve?" Nan Zhiyun asked expectantly.

"Hmm?" Yu Jingchen's voice rose slightly at the end, and Nan Zhiyun assumed he was displeased, so she didn't dare to continue speaking.

"If it's not possible, then..." Nan Zhiyun was about to say something when Yu Jingchen interrupted her.

Yu Jingchen reached out and took Nan Zhiyun's hand: "If you want to go, then go. There's nothing wrong with that. If the Empress Dowager is willing, you can go out of the palace with her. Or you can have your father come into the palace." Yu Jingchen comforted her.

Nan Zhiyun was somewhat surprised to hear this. Did this mean he agreed? And it seemed even better than she had wanted.

"Except for wanting to spend New Year's Eve with your father, I can also agree to let you go back to see him in a couple of days. Don't you miss your father? You don't have to hold back, and you don't have to deliberately avoid it." Yu Jingchen has recently taken a particular liking to pat Nan Zhiyun's head.

"Is it okay? Isn't that against the rules?" Nan Zhiyun asked cautiously.

"What's wrong with the rules? My words are the rules, and you don't need to pay attention to what others say. Not only now, but also in the future. Don't worry too much about what others say, except what I tell you personally. Do you understand? In any case, I will never lie to you again." Yu Jingchen spoke slowly, his words carrying a hidden meaning.

"Nan Zhiyun, there are many things I cannot tell you, but you must trust me. What I say means the truth," Yu Jingchen said gently.

“Yes…” Nan Zhiyun didn’t really understand, but whatever he said was what she wanted to hear, and she was too lazy to think about it.

"Be good, wait a little longer, wait a little longer for me. I will arrange everything properly..." To give you, to give the Nan family, peace...

at night

General's Mansion

Nan Su sat in the study, but besides him, there was one other person...

"Is this really okay?" Nan Su asked, his face still showing some worry.

"This is the only way I can think of..." It was the Empress Dowager's voice.

"Was everything in the letter you sent earlier true?" Nan Su asked.

"Ah Su, I would never joke about these things, especially when it involves Yun'er." The Empress Dowager said seriously.

Nan Su remained silent for a long while, and the Empress Dowager did not urge him, but instead told him to think it over carefully. Ultimately, it was for Nan Zhiyun's sake, and she believed he would make the right choice.

Sure enough, after a while, Nansu gave in.

“Of course I trust you, so let’s do as you say. After all, I’m getting old, but Yun’er is still young. If this can make things easier for Yun’er in the future, I naturally won’t hesitate.” Nan Su’s attitude was clear.

"It will be soon. After this year, everything will be better." The Empress Dowager looked into the distance.

Nan Su looked at the Empress Dowager for a while, then slowly said, "Your Majesty the Empress Dowager is somewhat different."

"You've said this to me before." The Empress Dowager smiled. Now, it seemed that her gentlest side was only shown to Nan Su and Nan Zhiyun.

“I know Gu Yin resigned from his post, it was for you, wasn’t it?” Nan Su asked.

"Perhaps," the Empress Dowager said without denying it.

“Actually, if you’re willing now, then…” Nan Su was interrupted by the Empress Dowager before he could finish speaking.

"I am the Empress Dowager," the Empress Dowager said.

"If you hadn't entered the palace back then, would things have been different?" Nan Su asked.

"If I could do it all over again, I would still enter the palace. Nothing would change. The only thing that would change is that I wouldn't fall for the emperor at the beginning," the Empress Dowager said decisively.

Nan Su remained silent.

“Gu Yin is actually quite good…” Nan Su finally added.

“Yes, he is very good, that’s why it’s not possible,” the Empress Dowager told Nan Su.

Nan Su was speechless.

"Alright, I've said my piece, I'm leaving now." The Empress Dowager didn't want to continue the discussion, and Nan Su didn't try to keep her any longer.

Just as the Empress Dowager stepped out of the room, the curtain behind Nan Su was pulled back. Who else could it be but Gu Yin?

“I’ve asked everything I needed to ask, and you should have heard everything clearly,” Nan Su said.

"You knew I was here all along?" Gu Yin asked, his tone flat, his eyes following the direction Nan Yin had left.

“This is the General’s residence. What is there that I, the General, do not know? Besides, I am not so useless as to not know that there is an extra person in the room,” Nan Su replied.

"Then tell me... does she know I'm here?" Gu Yin didn't care about Nan Su's attitude.

“What’s the point of knowing or not knowing? You should have guessed it long ago, shouldn’t you?” Nan Su asked him.

"That's true. Well then, I should go." Gu Yin smiled softly, but the smile looked somewhat desolate.

After Nan Yin left the general's mansion, Gu Yin was already waiting outside.

"Finished? It's cold outside, come upstairs." Gu Yin smiled gently and extended his hand.

Nan Yin looked around, then placed her hand on Gu Yin's hand, and he helped her onto the carriage.

After Nan Yin boarded the carriage, Gu Yin's smile faded considerably. He hesitated outside for about fifteen minutes before going inside.
