"Even though his business is already the largest, even more prosperous than when his father was alive, some people still think he is not as good as the woman's father, and believe that his success is because of the woman's family."
"Even worse, some people are sowing discord, saying that the female protagonist is plotting against the male protagonist so that she can take over his business after giving birth to his child. Outsiders don't want the two families to join forces or be of one mind. The most crucial thing is that the male protagonist believes them," Yu Jingchen continued.
"Why? The female protagonist clearly likes him, why would he believe her?" Nan Zhiyun asked Yu Jingchen, her tone seemingly mixed with unhappiness and reproach.
"Because the male protagonist was stupid, right? Now that I think about it, only useless and incompetent people would have such concerns," Yu Jingchen continued.
"What about the female protagonist later on?" Nan Zhiyun didn't know why, but she was very interested in what happened to that girl.
"That female protagonist... is in a bad situation. Because of the male protagonist's misplaced anger, she is having a terrible time. Nobody respects her, and the male protagonist often blames her, even beating and scolding her. If she does anything slightly wrong, she gets punished." Yu Jingchen continued sleeping.
Nan Zhiyun fell silent.
"Yun'er thought of herself, didn't she?" Yu Jingchen pointed it out very bluntly.
Nan Zhiyun remained silent, and Yu Jingchen held the girl in his arms tighter: "Nan Zhiyun, her experience is really similar to yours, but she never felt the male protagonist's care until the very end. When she was pregnant, the male protagonist punished her with caning, and she lost her child, but he didn't feel the slightest bit of emotion." As he said this, Yu Jingchen clearly felt Nan Zhiyun tremble slightly.
Yu Jingchen gently kissed Nan Zhiyun's forehead, his heart aching with pain.
"Yun'er, do you want to know what happened next?" Yu Jingchen asked her.
Nan Zhiyun nestled in Yu Jingchen's arms, only her head peeking out. Yu Jingchen's arm was draped over her chest, making her look like a little quail.
"If you don't want to hear it, then don't say it," Yu Jingchen told her.
"I want to know," Nan Zhiyun said softly.
Yu Jingchen pulled the woman closer to his chest before continuing, "Later, the male protagonist and the female protagonist encountered a calamity and were ambushed. The female protagonist lost her life because of him, dying in his arms."
"Why?" Nan Zhiyun couldn't understand. Perhaps it was because she felt the same way, but her tears fell without warning.
"I don't know, maybe because I'm stupid." Yu Jingchen reached out to wipe away Nan Zhiyun's tears.
"It's not worth it." Nan Zhiyun's voice trembled with tears.
"Yes, it's not worth it, so Yun'er must take good care of herself. No matter what, she should always be the priority." Yu Jingchen gently wiped away Nan Zhiyun's tears, but the more he wiped, the more tears she shed.
Yu Jingchen didn't understand why Nan Zhiyun blocked that sword in her previous life at first, but he gradually began to guess.
"Why is she doing this? She could be perfectly fine." Nan Zhiyun couldn't understand, nor did she know what the reason was for her being so upset.
"If Yun'er were her, what would she do?" Yu Jingchen asked.
“Children are a mother’s bottom line,” Nan Zhiyun replied, while Yu Jingchen remained silent.
"Will Yun'er forgive someone like that?" Yu Jingchen asked her.
"No, I will never want to see him again. I will hate him and resent him." Nan Zhiyun didn't even think much of it, and Yu Jingchen felt a pang in his heart.
"Don't cry..." Yu Jingchen felt a pang of sadness as he watched Nan Zhiyun's endless tears.
But Nan Zhiyun just couldn't stop. Perhaps she was thinking of herself, and all the grievances she had held in the past suddenly burst forth, and no one could withstand them.
"Don't cry, okay? Your eyes will be swollen tomorrow." Seeing Nan Zhiyun crying so hard, Yu Jingchen felt a pang in his heart, and he regretted bringing up the topic.
"Your Majesty, I am in pain..." Nan Zhiyun buried her face in Yu Jingchen's arms, her hands still holding his arm.
"I know, sweetie, don't cry, it's okay, alright? It's okay." Yu Jingchen hugged her and gently coaxed her, patting her back.
However, Nan Zhiyun couldn't calm down, and her crying got worse and worse. Yu Jingchen knew that it was mostly because of Nan Zhiyun herself. She was probably thinking about her experiences and grievances over the years.
Yu Jingchen also felt guilty, but there was nothing he could do but comfort her and stay quietly by her side. Nan Zhiyun did indeed think of herself, and all the emotions she had suppressed in the past began to spiral out of control.
Yu Jingchen pulled her closer to him, like he was holding a child, and Nan Zhiyun's face was now hidden on Yu Jingchen's shoulder.
"Sweetie, don't cry anymore, okay? It's alright, everything will be alright." Yu Jingchen's voice was somewhat weak; these words were ultimately pale, as those things had indeed existed and happened.
Nan Zhiyun didn't know, but he knew that he chose to tell her this way today because he felt that Nan Zhiyun should have known. He was just sorry that he didn't have the courage to tell her directly that this was what truly happened in his past life.
Perhaps it was selfishness, but fate always has its own arrangements. Fate gave him a second chance to save the situation, to make amends, and also to understand his own feelings and what he needed.
However, perhaps Heaven did not grant Nan Zhiyun the memories of that life so that she could be happier and more joyful in this life. The mistakes of the previous life had already been made, and even if she could start over, they would only be painful memories for Nan Zhiyun, and she might even be trapped in pain for the rest of her life.
