The eunuch didn't react at all, whether because he found it meaningless or because he didn't realize he was being asked a question; he just stood there trembling.
"You, Consort Shu is asking you a question, why aren't you answering?" Xinglai spoke up.
The little eunuch seemed to be startled, and touched his forehead to the ground: "This servant deserves to die!" Was he really afraid?
"Your Majesty will ask you again why you were punished?" Xinglai repeated Nan Zhiyun's question.
"Yes, Your Highness, it was this servant who accidentally offended you. This servant deserves to die..." This person seems to only know how to admit his mistakes.
Nan Zhiyun frowned, and Yu Jingchen noticed her unusual expression. So he asked, "Do you want to let him go?"
“Your Majesty, he… shouldn’t have committed such a grave crime.” Nan Zhiyun looked at him and felt sorry for him. This little eunuch looked unfamiliar, and he didn’t seem to have done anything particularly heinous.
"What do you want to do with Yun'er?" Yu Jingchen asked her.
"Your Majesty, I only wish to spare his life. I will leave the rest to you," Nan Zhiyun said.
Yu Jingchen glanced at the little eunuch kneeling on the ground, then gave Xinglai a look. Xinglai understood and nodded slightly.
"Then let's listen to Yun'er and spare his life." Yu Jingchen didn't say anything else.
The little eunuch on the ground seemed to have never expected to survive, and quickly began to kowtow in gratitude.
"This servant thanks Your Majesty for your mercy..." The little eunuch spoke weakly.
"It's not me, thank Consort Shu." Yu Jingchen said casually, still toying with Nan Zhiyun's hand.
"Yes...this servant thanks Your Highness, Consort Shu." He kowtowed to Nan Zhiyun again, and Nan Zhiyun glanced at him without saying much.
"Alright, Yun'er, are you satisfied now?" Yu Jingchen looked at Nan Zhiyun and asked softly.
"Mmm..." Nan Zhiyun responded, then snuggled back into Yu Jingchen's arms, covering herself completely. Yu Jingchen's lips curled up, and he hugged her tighter.
Those below watched in disbelief; His Majesty's doting on this Nan family girl was far beyond ordinary. Some, with their own cunning, began to have other plans.
Yu Jingchen picked up Nan Zhiyun and stood up: "I have already summoned the Minister of the Court of Judicial Review to the palace. His daughter has made a mistake, and he can't just let it go unpunished. This time, let him come to the palace to discipline her personally. Since you are all here today, then let's see how the Minister of the Court of Judicial Review disciplines his daughter." Yu Jingchen left with only this sentence, and then carried Nan Zhiyun away.
No one dared to speak at this moment. However, Yu Jiangyan glanced at the little eunuch kneeling on the ground, and then looked at the departing figures of Yu Jingchen and Nan Zhiyun, a thoughtful look flashing in his eyes.
Meanwhile, Liu Yi, observing Yu Jiangyan's current state, seemed lost in thought. He felt that Yu Jiangyan had become somewhat strange since returning from his fiefdom. He picked up his cup and gently sipped the tea inside.
Yu Jingchen carried Nan Zhiyun the entire way back. On the way, he covered Nan Zhiyun tightly with his cloak, afraid that she would be blown by the wind.
Nan Zhiyun was quite well-behaved, quietly nestled in Yu Jingchen's arms, saying nothing and barely moving, like a tired little kitten, languid and fluffy.
Yu Jingchen carried Nan Zhiyun back to He'an Palace, then carefully placed her on the bed, gently touching the injury on her foot.
"Be careful," Yu Jingchen said. After he settled Nan Zhiyun down, he pulled the blanket over her.
"Does the injury still hurt a lot?" Yu Jingchen asked her again.
"It hurts a lot." Nan Zhiyun nodded; it really hurt.
"Yun'er suffered a grievance today. Don't move around for the next few days. Delegate everything to the subordinates. Don't do anything yourself. If you accidentally aggravate your injury, you'll be the one who suffers in the end. You can't let yourself suffer any more. So you need to think about yourself and take better care of yourself." Yu Jingchen's words sounded like he was earnestly advising her.
"Okay," Nan Zhiyun obediently agreed.
"Next time you encounter something like this, be more assertive. How could someone like that possibly bully you again?" Yu Jingchen began to lecture.
"I didn't expect her to do this, so I wasn't on guard," Nan Zhiyun said, her voice tinged with a hint of grievance.
"Okay, it's all because she's too cunning and crazy, okay? But we still need to be a little careful. Later, I'll find a few people to be placed by your side, people who know some martial arts, so they can protect you and prevent you from getting hurt again, okay?" Yu Jingchen was asking for her opinion.
Originally, Yu Jingchen wanted to arrange the people himself, but later he felt that he should discuss this matter with Nan Zhiyun first.
“…Okay,” Nan Zhiyun hesitated for a moment but didn’t refuse. She certainly didn’t want something like today’s incident to happen again. It would be a good thing if Yu Jingchen sent someone over; after all… she still trusted Yu Jingchen quite a bit. This shouldn’t be to spy on her, nor should it have any other purpose. After all, she didn’t have anything she needed him to monitor right now…
“Well, you can let them go further away if you don’t want to, but you should still take them with you when you go out.” Yu Jingchen was also worried that Nan Zhiyun would overthink things.
"Okay, I understand, thank you Your Majesty," Nan Zhiyun nodded, she didn't mind.
After hearing her answer, Yu Jingchen patted Nan Zhiyun's head and said, "I'll have someone bring you some food in a bit. Eat something first. I need to take care of some things, and I'll come back to keep you company when I'm done, okay?"
"Okay, sure." Nan Zhiyun has gradually gotten used to Yu Jingchen's way of doing things.
"Good boy." Yu Jingchen smiled, then said to the palace servants around him, "Take good care of your master. If anything happens to him again, you will pay with your lives."
"Yes," the palace servants replied, always on edge, fearing they might make a mistake.
"I will let today's matter go, but if it happens again, it won't be so simple," Yu Jingchen said.
His words surprised almost everyone present, including Nan Zhiyun. They had all assumed that they had caused Nan Zhiyun's injury and forced her to escape with great difficulty. They hadn't expected her to escape with her life. Nan Zhiyun had even prepared her pleading words, but she was stunned by Yu Jingchen's words. Yu Jingchen found Nan Zhiyun's bewildered expression somewhat amusing; his little girl was quite kind.
