Yu Jingchen carried Nan Zhiyun to Zichen Palace, which was closer. Nan Zhiyun stayed close to him the whole way, hiding in his arms without making a sound, because Yu Jingchen was afraid she would cry again. He was even more afraid that she would blame herself and feel sad.
As soon as Yu Jingchen sat down inside, he asked Nan Zhiyun to sit in his lap so he could see her, but Nan Zhiyun wouldn't let him.
"Are you still crying? Are you alright? I didn't consider your feelings. I was wrong, okay? Don't cry anymore." Yu Jingchen ruffled Nan Zhiyun's hair.
"Hmm? Don't be sad anymore, okay? You didn't do anything wrong today, it was my fault. Don't say you were wrong, and don't cry or feel guilty, okay?" Yu Jingchen really didn't expect Nan Zhiyun to cry.
Xinglai, standing nearby, was also speechless. "Look, look, Your Majesty, you've made your hand cry... It's like... what? Like a father teasing his daughter and then making her cry, trying to steal a chicken but losing the rice instead... Tsk tsk tsk, Your Majesty has actually encountered this situation, it's an eye-opener."
However... this kind of troublesome place is not suitable for him to stay any longer, so he quietly withdrew.
Yu Jingchen was at a loss with Nan Zhiyun, so he could only gently soothe and comfort her. After about the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, Nan Zhiyun stirred slightly.
Yu Jingchen quickly looked down at the little person in his arms.
"Are you done?" Yu Jingchen asked her gently.
Nan Zhiyun rubbed her eyes and nodded somewhat shyly.
"That's good." Yu Jingchen finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Let's not think about what happened today anymore. I didn't consider your feelings," Yu Jingchen said, reflecting on his actions.
Nan Zhiyun remained silent, held tightly in Yu Jingchen's arms. Her expression betrayed a hint of guilt… Luckily, Yu Jingchen wasn't looking at her, otherwise she might have given herself away and become suspicious. She wasn't that fragile, crying over something so trivial… It was already embarrassing enough; crying would only make it more so.
But what other choice did she have? If she didn't do this, given the situation just now, Yu Jingchen and the others wouldn't have let her off easily. That's why she resorted to this desperate measure, but unexpectedly, it actually worked.
"Are you feeling better now?" Yu Jingchen looked at her. Nan Zhiyun's expression was still somewhat unnatural.
Seeing Nan Zhiyun's strange behavior, Yu Jingchen looked around, because she hadn't recovered yet.
"Still thinking about it? Don't think about it anymore, okay? It's okay, nothing much happened today, I carried you there. No one below dared to say a word." Yu Jingchen made another assurance to her.
"Your Majesty, I would like to drink some water..." If Yu Jingchen continued like this, she was afraid that she would give herself away.
"Okay, have some water." Yu Jingchen didn't suspect a thing, and pulled him close to pour water.
Nan Zhiyun wanted to reach out and hold the cup to drink water, but Yu Jingchen didn't give her the chance and fed it directly to her lips.
Fortunately, Nan Zhiyun has gradually gotten used to it. She was just making up an excuse earlier, but now she really does feel thirsty.
"I want more," Nan Zhiyun said again, her big, slightly red eyes fixed on him. How could Yu Jingchen be immune to that? So he handed her another cup, which she obediently drank.
"Do you want more?" Yu Jingchen asked.
Nan Zhiyun shook her head: "I'm not thirsty anymore."
Yu Jingchen smiled indulgently and put the cup down.
