Upon seeing this, Yu Jingchen's eyes sharpened. He turned around while holding Nan Zhiyun, and the dagger pierced the back of Yu Jingchen's hand. Grapes scattered all over the ground, and Nan Zhiyun was still somewhat bewildered.
The commotion inside alerted the guards outside, and the assassin was instantly surrounded. But since he had chosen to assassinate, he had come prepared to die.
The assassin stabbed directly at Yu Jingchen. Perhaps Nan Zhiyun was indeed Yu Jingchen's weakness, so every attack the assassin made was aimed at Nan Zhiyun.
He wasn't the only one; the other assassins who had been secretly guarding the Zichen Palace also rushed forward. It was clear that these people had come prepared.
"Don't be afraid, close your eyes," Yu Jingchen said to Nan Zhiyun.
"Your Majesty... I'm fine, please put me down." Nan Zhiyun knew that she had become a burden to Yu Jingchen.
Yu Jingchen simply smiled, saying nothing and not letting go. He engaged the others in combat while holding Nan Zhiyun in his arms. Whether it was because Yu Jingchen was holding back or because he was carrying Nan Zhiyun, his movements seemed to slow down somewhat.
These assassins were probably professionally trained, which is why they were difficult to deal with. The key was that all the swords and blades were aimed at Nan Zhiyun, and Yu Jingchen seemed to be struggling to keep up.
Suddenly, a sword pierced straight between the two, forcing Yu Jingchen to release Nan Zhiyun. Nan Zhiyun suppressed her tension and walked to the side to avoid causing trouble.
Without the constraints, Yu Jingchen moved much more freely. Logically, since they were at Zichen Palace, their target should have been Yu Jingchen, but instead, they went after Nan Zhiyun.
With Yu Jingchen entangled, Nan Zhiyun, alone in the corner, gave the assassin an opportunity to strike. The assassin raised his sword and stabbed. Nan Zhiyun couldn't dodge in time and simply closed her eyes. At this critical moment, Nan Zhiyun suddenly felt herself being pulled into an embrace.
The sound of swords piercing flesh left Nan Zhiyun stunned; it was Yu Jingchen who had blocked the blow. Looking at the wound on Yu Jingchen's left shoulder, Nan Zhiyun didn't know how to react.
"Your Majesty!" Fortunately, he witnessed this and repelled the assassin with a single palm strike.
"Your Majesty..." Nan Zhiyun's voice trembled.
"It's alright... Hmm? Be good." Yu Jingchen pulled the person into his arms.
"I'm not watching anymore, it'll be over soon." Yu Jingchen didn't want Nan Zhiyun to see the bloody scene below.
Nan Zhiyun was pulled into Yu Jingchen's arms, and tears instantly fell, but she dared not cry out loud.
After things calmed down behind her, Nan Zhiyun heard Xinglai's voice: "Your Majesty, one person survived, and the rest have all been executed." The one who was left behind was the one who had almost injured Nan Zhiyun.
"Pour mercury into them, skin them, and hang them on the city wall as a warning. Do the same to the rest of the corpses." Yu Jingchen's voice was very soft, and even Nan Zhiyun, who was in Yu Jingchen's arms, couldn't help but feel scared upon hearing this decision.
"Yes" has become a common occurrence.
"Sweetie, shall we go inside first? It's too dirty here." Yu Jingchen hugged the girl in his arms tighter.
Nan Zhiyun nodded in his arms, and Yu Jingchen smiled gently, leading her into the inner hall.
“Your Majesty…” Nan Zhiyun’s eyes were glistening with tears.
"I'm fine, don't worry." Yu Jingchen knew that Nan Zhiyun was injured because of him.
Nan Zhiyun helped Yu Jingchen sit down. She wanted to check his injuries, but she simply didn't have the courage.
"It hurts a little, but it's nothing, just a minor injury." Yu Jingchen kissed Nan Zhiyun's forehead.
