Yu Jingchen carried Nan Zhiyun back to He'an Palace. Nan Zhiyun remained silent throughout the journey, and Yu Jingchen didn't utter a single word. Xinglai and Qianxia exchanged glances behind them, unsure of what was wrong with them.
After returning to He'an Palace, Yu Jingchen put the person down and sat him in his lap.
"Yun'er was frightened again?" Yu Jingchen asked her.
Nan Zhiyun glanced at Yu Jingchen but didn't answer. Instead, she hugged Yu Jingchen again and buried her face in his chest.
"What's wrong?" Yu Jingchen asked with a hint of helplessness. Had he scared this girl again today?
"It's nothing~" Nan Zhiyun said, her voice sounding a little strained.
“Okay…” Yu Jingchen didn’t know how to comfort her, so he could only use the simplest way, hugging her and patting her back.
Even Nan Zhiyun herself didn't know what was wrong with her; she seemed to have become unusually sensitive lately. She would often get angry and unhappy for no reason.
"I don't know what's wrong with me..." Nan Zhiyun finally spoke.
"I'm just inexplicably unhappy, Your Majesty..." Nan Zhiyun released her grip on Yu Jingchen's arms and looked intently at him.
"Am I becoming worse? Am I becoming strange?" Nan Zhiyun was somewhat self-doubting. Lately, she would often suddenly become unhappy, and sometimes she would even think about throwing a tantrum.
Yu Jingchen smiled after hearing this, then naturally placed his hand on Nan Zhiyun's head: "How could that be? Yun'er is doing very well now, getting better and better. Look, aren't you bolder now? You can make requests of me, you can even be affectionate, sometimes you like to joke around, and you've become more clingy. You tell me everything, you don't keep it to yourself, you don't deliberately hide things from me, and you're not as afraid of me as before, so little Yun'er is getting better and better." Yu Jingchen casually ruffled her hair.
"But my temper has gotten worse... I get upset very easily." Nan Zhiyun was like a child who had done something wrong, constantly reflecting on her actions.
"No, Yun'er, don't overthink things, and don't think so badly of yourself. You're doing very well, and I like you the way you are now. Others will like you too. If anyone doesn't like you, it's only because they're jealous that you're so good." Yu Jingchen gently comforted her, letting her sit on his lap.
"I'll take you out of the palace in a couple of days. As I promised you, you can go back to see your father every month." Yu Jingchen didn't want Nan Zhiyun to keep overthinking, so he directly mentioned something she cared about to divert her attention.
Sure enough, upon hearing that she could leave the palace and go home to see her father, Nan Zhiyun's bad mood vanished completely.
Nan Zhiyun really isn't much different from a child; these emotions come and go quickly.
Yu Jingchen couldn't help but recall his second life... which caused Nan Zhiyun's mind to be like that of a five or six-year-old child, and he felt a sense of bewilderment.
Back then, Nan Zhiyun was exceptionally clingy, always wanting him to hold her, but... he was driven by possessiveness and control, so he lacked patience. Now it seems... perhaps his treatment of Nan Zhiyun in that life wasn't entirely about control and possession...
