"Yes," An Xin said, not knowing what else to say.
"Go down there. Remember to keep an eye on things down there. Make sure no one mistreats Yun'er. Also... have someone send a bowl of medicine over in a little while." The Empress Dowager seemed to have thought of something else, so she gave this special reminder.
"Your Majesty the Empress Dowager..." An Xin was a little unsure of what to say.
"Take it over and watch her drink it. If she doesn't want to, then forget it." The Empress Dowager had made up her mind.
“Yes…” An Xin had no choice but to comply.
Not long after, An Xin personally brought the medicine to He'an Palace. Because Yu Jingchen had given the order earlier, the guards at the gate dared not let An Xin in. However, the imperial guards arrived at this time and granted An Xin permission to enter and exit.
Nan Zhiyun had already gotten up. Seeing the bowl of medicine that the Empress Dowager brought over, Nan Zhiyun drank it without any hesitation.
"Your Majesty, the Empress Dowager is doing this for your own good..." An Xin was afraid that Nan Zhiyun might have some lingering resentment.
“I know, and I really am willing to drink it myself. After all…” Nan Zhiyun lowered her eyes. She didn’t want to have any more entanglements with Yu Jingchen right now. If she had a child, she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to leave him one day.
"I'm relieved that Your Highness has figured it out." An Xin breathed a sigh of relief.
Zichen Palace
After the morning court session, Yu Jingchen knew that the Empress Dowager had sent over a bowl of medicine, and he knew without a doubt what it contained. He was actually quite displeased, but considering that he had never intended for Nan Zhiyun to bear a royal heir, he had the medicine sent over anyway.
Yu Jingchen did not go to He'an Palace that day. After Nan Zhiyun learned that she was confined to her room, she did not make a fuss or cause any trouble. She just sat quietly and obediently in the room, like a lost doll, not knowing what she was thinking.
Having noticed the change in His Majesty's attitude towards Consort Shu, Xinglai had already sent people to keep an eye on the situation. Therefore, after careful consideration, he decided to inform Yu Jingchen of this matter. Upon hearing this, Yu Jingchen remained silent, sitting there unmoved.
Unable to guess the meaning, Xinglai simply kept quiet and stood aside. She watched as Yu Jingchen took out a piece of paper and began writing something. Xinglai didn't dare approach to look; after finishing, she simply left it there to wait for the ink to dry.
After an unknown amount of time, Yu Jingchen finally made a move. He first put the letter away, then said to it, "Send this letter to He'an Palace and say it's from her father."
Hmm? Xinglai was completely confused. Didn't Your Majesty just write this? But he quickly realized what was going on and took the letter with both hands.
"Yes, Your Majesty, I will have someone send it immediately," Xinglai replied.
“Don’t send anyone else, you go and deliver it yourself,” Yu Jingchen retorted.
"Yes," Xinglai replied, and then went to He'an Palace without delay.
When he arrived, Nan Zhiyun was still sitting by the window, gazing into the distance, lost in thought.
"Your Majesty has been like this all day since you got up, and you haven't eaten anything," Qianxia said.
"Alright, I understand." Xinglai went inside after finding out the situation.
"This servant greets Consort Shu and pays respects to her." Xinglai forced a smile.
Nan Zhiyun looked at him, snapping out of her reverie, and asked, "Does Your Majesty have any further instructions? Or is there a new punishment?" Nan Zhiyun's tone was flat, revealing no emotion whatsoever.
"Your Majesty, His Majesty has not issued any decree. He merely sent me with something." Xinglai took out the letter in his hand.
“This letter was written by General Nan to Her Majesty. His Majesty said that Her Majesty should take a look.” Xinglai said this without any guilt, and Nan Zhiyun finally reacted.
