Yu Jingchen noticed Nan Zhiyun's change: "What's wrong?" he asked.
Nan Zhiyun was a little stiff. How should I put it?
"I...don't understand these things." And I'm not interested...Nan Zhiyun muttered to herself.
Yu Jingchen frowned. What didn't he understand? He took the book from Nan Zhiyun's hand. Was there a problem with these? Well, Yu Jingchen didn't understand these things at all. In his eyes, these were perfectly normal things.
"Is there a problem?" Yu Jingchen usually reads these kinds of things quite a lot.
"I..." Nan Zhiyun wanted to say something, but in the end she didn't say it. Oh well, she'll just have to make do with it.
She sat up straight, picked up the history book next to her. In her eyes, history books were more interesting than military strategy books. As for Yu Jingchen... he naturally picked up another book, so they wouldn't bother each other.
Nan Zhiyun initially tried to force herself to read it, since it was just a way to pass the time, but she really wasn't interested in the content; it was too dry. The key issue was that these kinds of historical books weren't about romantic tales or ghost stories; they just recorded some systems and such, which was incredibly boring.
Nan Zhiyun got bored after flipping through just two pages. She glanced cautiously at Yu Jingchen and found him engrossed in reading. Nan Zhiyun sighed inwardly; she didn't know what to say, so she let him read.
The room was already quiet, and with this book that was boring and tedious for Nan Zhiyun, after about fifteen minutes, Nan Zhiyun... well, she was getting drowsy.
Yu Jingchen hadn't noticed them at first, but when he looked over, he saw her nodding. Yu Jingchen raised an eyebrow slightly. Was she asleep? Could she still sleep now?
He didn't disturb her, but instead looked at Nan Zhiyun with amusement. Nan Zhiyun leaned back in her chair, the book in her hands almost falling. As for her, she was practically unconscious by now.
Yu Jingchen watched her sitting there dozing off. Just as the book was about to fall, Yu Jingchen reached out and took the book from her hand.
Nan Zhiyun was completely unaware of this action; she was already in a semi-sleep state. Yu Jingchen put down the book Nan Zhiyun was holding. She had been reading for a long time, but had only turned two pages; she simply couldn't continue.
Yu Jingchen gently lifted Nan Zhiyun around the waist. Perhaps because she was sleepy, Nan Zhiyun didn't wake up. He carried her to the bed next to him and put her down. Nan Zhiyun seemed to sense something, because after being placed on the bed, she turned over and lay down in the corner, slightly curling up her body.
Yu Jingchen watched Nan Zhiyun's series of actions in silence. He sat beside her and gently took off her shoes. He also checked her injuries; they were still somewhat red and swollen. In the current state, it seemed unlikely she would be fully recovered by tomorrow.
This girl still wants to go out? How could she possibly go out in her current state? She can't even move. Given the current situation, she'll definitely be even more swollen tomorrow.
Yu Jingchen spread out the blanket and covered her with it. Although the weather wasn't cold, she could still catch a chill while sleeping.
After Yu Jingchen finished dealing with Nan Zhiyun's matter, he picked up the two books again and sat down next to Nan Zhiyun to read them.
When I came in, I saw His Majesty sitting with Consort Shu reading a book. What was going on?
"Next time she wants to read a book, put it in a separate place so she can find it if she wants to. Since she doesn't like these books, there's no need to bring them up for her anymore." Yu Jingchen could tell that Nan Zhiyun wasn't interested in these kinds of things.
Fortunately, he agreed.
"Do you have anything else to report?" Yu Jingchen asked him after he had finished saying what he wanted to say.
"Yes, Your Majesty, General Nan Su will probably arrive in the capital ahead of schedule, possibly the day after tomorrow. Should we prepare to return to the palace?" Xinglai asked.
"The day after tomorrow?" Yu Jingchen didn't expect it to be so soon. Didn't they say a couple of days ago that it would take some more time?
"It's news that just arrived, and I've already relayed His Majesty's instructions regarding the assassination attempt on Consort Shu. I expect General Nan will receive the news soon as well," Xinglai continued.
“Hmm, keep an eye on it. Also, keep a close eye on Yu Jing’an’s movements.” Yu Jingchen said thoughtfully, then looked at Nan Zhiyun, who was sleeping beside him: “Send more guards to follow her these days, especially around her. Keep a close eye on her, including her food and daily necessities.”
"Yes, this servant understands." Somehow, word of Nan Su's return to the capital to hand over military power has leaked out, so these people below have been making frequent and excessive moves lately.
"If there's nothing else, you may leave," Yu Jingchen said, waving his hand.
"Then... Your Majesty tomorrow..." Fortunately, he hadn't asked yet.
"I won't go back to the palace tomorrow. Let's go back the day after tomorrow morning." After all, it's not easy to get out here. If we go back like this, she would be very disappointed. Besides, the purpose of this trip is to help Nan Zhiyun adjust her mood, so we should stay for a while.
"Yes," Xinglai understood, so he didn't continue and withdrew on his own.
After Xinglai left, Yu Jingchen's gaze fell back on Nan Zhiyun. That girl was sleeping soundly.
As darkness fell, Yu Jingchen put down his book and asked someone to fetch a tinderbox. She was afraid of the dark at night. Although he didn't know if she would still be afraid of the dark if she fell asleep, it was better to light it. If she was afraid of the dark, he wouldn't bother to comfort her.
