Yu Jingchen quickly learned of Nan Zhiyun's sudden fainting. He had just finished the morning court session when he heard the news of Nan Zhiyun's fainting and was quite frightened. He immediately rushed to Zichen Palace.
When he arrived, Nan Zhiyun was lying in bed, and the imperial physician was taking her pulse, his expression grave. Yu Jingchen's heart tightened. On his way here, he had assumed that Nan Zhiyun had fainted because of her pregnancy, but seeing the imperial physician's expression now made him feel uneasy.
Is there something wrong with Nan Zhiyun or is there a problem with the child? Her health is poor, and in her previous lives, Nan Zhiyun suffered a lot during her pregnancies, and the child also went through many twists and turns, so he was not sure if the child could be born safely.
"Why did Consort Shu suddenly faint?" Yu Jingchen asked Qianxia.
Qianxia immediately knelt down: "Your Majesty, I thought the weather was nice today, and since Your Highness is always cooped up in the house, I thought I'd let Your Highness go out for a walk. But I never expected that Your Highness would suddenly faint while strolling in the courtyard today. Please forgive me, Your Majesty!" Qianxia recounted the events of the day.
Yu Jingchen remained silent. According to his usual methods, all the palace maids serving Nan Zhiyun today, including Qianxia, would certainly have been punished. However, he didn't do so this time. He knew Nan Zhiyun wouldn't like it, so he couldn't do that. Besides, Nan Zhiyun would feel guilty because of their punishment, and he didn't want her to suffer.
"How is Consort Shu's condition?" Yu Jingchen asked the imperial physician.
The imperial physician released Nan Zhiyun's hand, bowed to Yu Jingchen, and replied, "Your Majesty, Consort Shu's pulse suggests she is pregnant, but she is still a month along, so the pulse is not very clear. I will examine her pulse again in a few days to confirm the diagnosis." The physician said, but his brow remained furrowed as he spoke.
When Qianxia heard that Nan Zhiyun was pregnant, she was stunned. Pregnant? The Empress is pregnant? For a moment, she didn't know whether she should be happy for the Empress or not, after all, this child... she wasn't sure if His Majesty would care.
"Are there any other problems?" The imperial physician knew that Nan Zhiyun's pulse was not so simple, otherwise he wouldn't have looked so worried.
"Your Majesty, please forgive me, but Her Majesty's health is very weak. She has suffered greatly in the past two years, and she was also recently subjected to caning. If Her Majesty is indeed pregnant, then this child... I'm afraid it will be difficult to keep." The imperial physician was already prostrate on the ground when he said this.
Yu Jingchen had long harbored this concern, so he wasn't surprised to hear it now. Moreover, he was the one who was ultimately responsible for all of this.
"Let's do our best. We'll try to save this child if possible, but Consort Shu's health is the most important thing," Yu Jingchen said. Of course, he hoped to save both children, but it was clear that this would be very difficult. Therefore, compared to the child, Yu Jingchen cared more about Nan Zhiyun's safety.
The imperial physician was also under great pressure, but fortunately His Majesty did not pursue the matter too much. However... this inevitably led some people to speculate, wondering if Yu Jingchen did this because he didn't care about the child, or if he simply didn't want the child, or even disapproved of Nan Zhiyun's pregnancy?
The news of Consort Shu's pregnancy spread like wildfire throughout the palace, causing a great stir and shocking many.
When Nan Zhiyun woke up, Yu Jingchen was right beside her. He hadn't left her side for a moment since he arrived today, his eyes full of worry, until Nan Zhiyun woke up.
"You're awake? Is anything bothering you?" Yu Jingchen noticed she was awake immediately and asked her.
"Your Majesty..." Nan Zhiyun murmured.
"Yes, I'm here. It's alright. Tell me, is there anything else that's bothering you?" Yu Jingchen asked her again.
Nan Zhiyun shook her head. She really wanted to ask herself what was wrong, but she was also a little afraid. Yu Jingchen could see what she was thinking, so he took the initiative to answer for her.
"You might be pregnant, which is why you suddenly fainted today," Yu Jingchen said. Upon hearing these words, Nan Zhiyun felt as if something had exploded in her mind.
Pregnant?
"What's wrong? Are you that surprised?" Yu Jingchen found her stunned expression somewhat amusing.
“I…” Nan Zhiyun stared blankly at Yu Jingchen, completely speechless.
"It's okay, huh? I'm here." Yu Jingchen reached out and ruffled his hair.
"Are you hungry? I'll have someone prepare something for you, okay?" Yu Jingchen asked her.
"I'm not hungry..." Nan Zhiyun replied. This matter had shocked her so much that she was still somewhat in shock.
"Are you really not hungry?" Yu Jingchen asked to confirm.
"I've already eaten today..." Nan Zhiyun replied, indicating that she had eaten a proper meal today.
"Then we won't eat. It's okay. We can ask someone to prepare something else if we get hungry." Yu Jingchen went along with her suggestion.
Nan Zhiyun looked visibly bewildered. Her hand slowly moved to her stomach. Was there a little life growing inside her? Was she going to be a mother? But why did it feel so sudden? She felt like she hadn't expected it at all and wasn't prepared.
The feeling was magical. She was now carrying a little life, her baby, her child. But... had she really come to the right place? Was it the right time? Could she stay? She cautiously looked up at Yu Jingchen, and their eyes met. Nan Zhiyun was startled and immediately tried to look away.
