Chapter 656 Dual Rebirth: Torrential Rain

Just as dusk was approaching, a heavy rain began to fall, turning the entire imperial city into a gray haze. Low-hanging clouds pressed down, raindrops slanting from the sky, the inky gray clouds pressing in, growing heavier and heavier, as if about to crush the rooftops. Rain dripped from the eaves, falling to the ground like a beaded curtain, splashing everywhere. Then came flashes of lightning and clap of thunder, as if the distant sky were about to be torn apart.

The Zichen Palace was shrouded in a thick, cloudy sky, shrouded in mist. A layer of water gradually formed on the ground, raindrops pattered on the branches, and the roses in the courtyard were knocked to the ground. The imperial city appeared and disappeared in the rain, everything seeming so unreal. A storm is brewing, and when the storm arrives, it's not just a matter of "wind filling the tower."

Thunder rumbled in the distance, and Nan Zhiyun was covered in a fine layer of sweat, making her sleep extremely restless.

"No..." Nan Zhiyun murmured softly. She seemed to be dreaming, many bloody images flashing before her eyes. She saw Yu Jingchen in her dream raising a knife, saw her father being severed from his body by the blade, she saw Yu Jingchen tearing her clothes, leaving her naked, and forcibly having sex with her. She saw the Cining Palace engulfed in flames, the Empress Dowager trapped inside, helpless and alone.

Is this a dream? But why does it feel so real? Nan Zhiyun shifted uncomfortably, clutching the blankets tightly. She curled up into a ball. Thunder roared outside, and the candlelight inside flickered precariously, as if it would fall at any moment and set the room ablaze. The fear of being surrounded by flames and the intense heat made her feel unbearably uncomfortable.

"No..." Nan Zhiyun kept repeating these two words. The scene in her dream was too terrifying, as if the god of death had woven a large net to trap and capture her.

"Help..." Nan Zhiyun did not wake up. This nightmare made him feel as if he had fallen into the water and been pulled out.

Suddenly, a deafening roar erupted outside, and distant lightning seemed to tear the sky in two. Floodwaters poured down from the sky, threatening to engulf the entire capital city.

Yu Jingchen rushed in from outside, his footsteps filled with panic. Nan Zhiyun lay on the bed, tossing and turning, trying to wake up, but unable to.

"Yun'er?" Yu Jingchen quickly sat down and pulled her into his arms, trying to give her a sense of security and to wake up the little girl who was trapped in a nightmare.

"No...no...help..." Nan Zhiyun couldn't calm down at all, as if she had lost her mind, but she didn't wake up.

"Don't be afraid, I'm here. Don't be scared. It's alright now." Yu Jingchen pulled her into his arms, gently resting his chin on Nan Zhiyun's head, his hands patting her body repeatedly. Nan Zhiyun was terrified; fear enveloped her from head to toe.

"Yun'er, be good, don't be afraid." Yu Jingchen was also anxious. He had guessed that Nan Zhiyun would be scared, but he didn't expect it to be this serious.

"No...please..." Nan Zhiyun kept talking, and Yu Jingchen had no idea what she was dreaming about.

Nan Zhiyun felt someone choking her, and she could hardly breathe. Yu Jingchen didn't let go of Nan Zhiyun, but... her next sentence made Yu Jingchen freeze abruptly.

Nan Zhiyun said... "Your Majesty... I don't want to see you again... for all eternity..."

Yu Jingchen looked at the girl in his arms. So... was it because she dreamed about the things that happened in her past life, or has she remembered them now? If it was a dream, will these memories still exist after she wakes up?

"Yun'er?" Yu Jingchen called softly to the little girl in his arms. Nan Zhiyun seemed to have gradually calmed down, no longer as agitated as before.

Gradually, Nan Zhiyun slowly opened her eyes, but the fear in her eyes was still undeniable.

"Yun'er?" Yu Jingchen's heart leaped into his throat when he saw Nan Zhiyun wake up. Did she... remember now?

Nan Zhiyun looked at Yu Jingchen. In that instant, Nan Zhiyun was clearly frightened and immediately tried to shrink back, but Yu Jingchen caught her in a flash.

"Yun'er, be good, don't be afraid, it's me." Yu Jingchen wasn't sure either; this was the first time he had felt so scared and nervous.

Nan Zhiyun's body was trembling, and she dared not look up. She was as if she were surrounded by an atmosphere of fear, making it impossible for her to breathe.

"Yun'er, don't be afraid, it's me. It's okay. You just had a nightmare. It's thundering and raining outside. Yun'er was scared, wasn't she?" Yu Jingchen spoke very softly.

Nan Zhiyun's eyes were glazed over, but after hearing Yu Jingchen's words, she slowly began to refocus.

Nan Zhiyun looked at Yu Jingchen, her eyes red-rimmed. Anyone who saw her would feel their heart drawn to her, their emotions fluctuating with her appearance.

"Yun'er, it's me..." Yu Jingchen tried his best to appear gentle. Although he was starting to panic inside, he couldn't show it on the surface.

"Your Majesty..." Tears instantly streamed down Nan Zhiyun's face, dripping onto Yu Jingchen's hands as he held her.

"Yes, I'm here. Don't be afraid, Yun'er. It was just a dream. Don't be scared, okay?" Yu Jingchen comforted her.

"Your Majesty... please don't kill my father... please don't kill the Empress Dowager... please, Yun'er begs you..." Nan Zhiyun's current appearance seems somewhat abnormal.
